An Aubrey Falls Trading Post Video from the days when they were open and busy. This was a day-trip from the Domtar Road (D201F) to Dunlop Lake Lodge and back.5 points

I suppose you can give them the benefit of the doubt and they truly are not aware of the operations of a club, but I cannot believe you would embark on what they have not understanding the hands that feeds you first.......it's not like if you build it, they will come....there is small thing called a trail that needs to be overcome and all that goes along with it. Here is hoping they understand the big picture soon and adjust their approach accordingly.......however, I get the feeling there will always be a certain air about them that will turn people away.5 points

it is a pretty good poke by sled from Aubrey Falls, Black Creek, "Johnnie's" area to chapleau fuel. it is 55 or 60 miles to flame lake lodge (still open), then another 50 or 60 miles (yes miles), to Chapleau's fuel pumps. that is why Chapleau fought to close the F trail. too long of a trail, too much difficult terrain, water issues, for a single groomer operator to deal with. now they run the F trail from Elliot Lake to Black Creek, then "connectors to the D Trail, to halfway haven, then D, F connector trail from Halfway to Chapleau, then the C, F connector over to Folyette, and Timmins. the old F trail was and is still one of my favorites to ever ride. leaving from Echo Bay, and hitting up the d106a, to Aubrey falls/Black Creek, then up to flame lake to see, stay, with Karen, Gary, and Maureen, and or on to Chapleau, then back the next day, was a great weekend ride. when the F trail from Chapleau to Missanabi was still open, that was a great 3 day loop for trail pounder's. leave the soo/echo bay, searchmont. hit flame lake or chapleau (day one), then onto dub, or wawa, or even halfway (day 2), then back to the trucks, on the last day. oh, the memories. sad it changed for the worse. We have been out Packing with the groomer and bearcats, getting much closer to opening in Gravenhurst. Quite a few of the Muskoka clubs have been posting on FB updates4 points

What was once a remote unplugged rustic and backwoodsy adventure, is now a daily/nightly full blown Kid Rock concert with the Jackass crew opening up.4 points

These news stories are good at naming the OFSC trail locations, without mentioning that the trails are not yet open.4 points

With the new snow, Baysville should be up and running soon. They've been out with their packing bar already.3 points

Club was contacted last night, by many I am sure. The response was they were going out today to start packing, club to the south groomed the rail trail to Kinmount again last night. Plenty of snow, lakes are staked for the most part, no reason they should not be out. Livin'3 points

I creeped the new owners on Facebook after someone tagged them. They give me a total Tiger King vibe. Maybe theyβll get a reality show next.3 points

The owners would not allow the trail to go through their property for maybe 3 seasons now and there was a chain up on the driveways so not open. The bridge near the D106 needed work for the groomer to use it. The trail has been run next to the road now for a few seasons instead but gets bad sometimes. You now just turn North up Hwy 129 coming out of the trail at BlackCreek and ride the shoulder up to Ranger Lake Road if you don't know the old trail, but I have had to cut trees in there 2 seasons back to get through. BlackCreek has to stay open or the trails will be done just the same as Halfway is needed to keep the F trail alive.2 points

It's been about 6 or 7 years back that I spent the night in the "being remodeled" upper motel. Came late 8:30pmish from Halfway on our way to Elliot Lake and stopped to get gas and decided to eat and stay. Could not get BlackCreek on the phone and thought they might be away for the evening visiting family so we grabbed gas when we saw Aubrey Falls had lights on. Could not usually count on AF in the winter to be open since it was sold years back and so I usually tried to support BlackCreek as they lived there and would open up even after dark. That evening we decided to call from Halfway before leaving but got no answer at blackCreek. Guess they had a party line phone years back and were having issues with that.2 points

Agreed! You will see many more areas open up in the south now - will take some wind out of their sails when the numbers start to drop up there - at least for now. They had a good start to the season up there ... basically the only show in town.....now they are crapping in their own backyard. As the saying goes "don't bite the hand that feeds you". The ranting and bashing going on on their FB page is juvenile at best - and I for one sure won't be making the trip up to support them - especially not riding closed trails. RESPECT needs to be shown to the Snowmobile clubs. Both clubs work so very hard to get things ready to open and stay open! Hats off to them and thank you for all the hard work so that we have the best trails to ride when we are up there. That is why we drive for 7 hours to get there every year - there are more trails to ride than just doing the Canyon loop FYI....as it seems that is all some people seem to think they can do for whatever the reason (albeit it is definitely one day usually out of our trip - but not the reason we go as so many others allude to) When we first started heading to Cochrane over 20 years ago now, there was no "loop"...the ONLY side open was the east side...It was 154kms? or so each way....No warm up shack just past the tracks (that is relatively new) and once you got to Base Camp it was a warm Oasis for a cup of hot chocolate, a boiled wiener on a bun and a chocolate bar! Gas was approx $2.00/litre back then and that was what we considered expensive - but - you had no choice. Sleds were not as fuel efficient as they are now...we carried some gas - but not enough to do the entire trip - so we always topped up our tanks and supported Base Camp - it wasn't fancy, but it was a warm welcome. Now - they seem to think they are entitled in some way? IDK....but that is the impression I am getting. There is no good done when they are bashing the very clubs that "feed" them their customers. Posting and encouraging riders to come up when the tails are clearly closed shows no respect. Posting pics of no social distancing and drinking alcohol without a license does not promote good business practices either When the club posts a closed trail it isn't because they "want" to do it - it is because the need to do it for whatever the reasons are it shouldn't matter - it is closed THE END. Whether it has to do with land use permits or out of safety...CLOSED IS CLOSED and nobody in this sport should be encouraging others to ride on those closed trails PERIOD! I have always supported Base Camp every year we go to Cochrane - but - sorry....our group will not be making that trip to the canyon this year. Glad I have "been there and done that" for many years..... it is a sad situation. for sure. Rant over - just my 2 cents2 points

tough/late start - great to see the dedicated volunteers staying optimistic and doing what they can.1 point

Might be better for black creek since they are only way to get fuel now as you know. They could charge 4 bucks a liter now and I be happy to pay it. Beautiful area but trail heading north from black creek not best. Be better to go up road like you do sometimes.1 point

Thanks Dan, for the nostalgic look back. Had many great trips through that area and on up the old F trail to Chapleau, then north to Hearst, or east to Timmins. Really miss some of the places we stayed, like Flame Lake Lodge, and others that I can't remember.1 point

I notice this is the HCSA forum..... Haliburton is a well-run, hard-working, and organized club. They are normally quick to open if they have snow.....1 point

They will have packing and then grooming to do as well as sign inspections and sign off before the trails can be opened.1 point

3 seasons ago, we were the last one's up for the season. They cared and accommodated us - we called in a.m. to say we're on the way up from Cochrane ( left voice-mail message ). Younger gent left Jerry cans, we filled up - met further south and settled up. I remember Bill before that and some chap who worked for him and literally howled at the moon ( cabin fever he said, "alone" ). This is a new chapter. In difficult times. It'll work out.1 point

That sums it up. Fingers crossed in the years ahead.1 point

Thatβs shocking since they sold allot of fuel to highway travels not just sledders. I stopped in for a burger one busy day. They were pretty good and chap inside told me I better fill the sleds, since fuel tanks almost empty and fuel truck never showed up in the morning. So got sleds full of gas before tank was empty. Half an hour later would have been no fuel left after a group came in and cleaned out the rest of fuel heading to halfway.1 point

Agreed. When you can smell weed riding past riders pulled over trailside, smoking weed and drinking, especially at our NCDN speeds, there's a problem.1 point
-
Alcohol a factor. Just to make a point here, our last few days of riding in the NCDN, we witnessed more LOOSERS drinking and smoking weed trailside then ever before. Very very sad state of affairs. These riders need off our trails and behind bars before they ruin others lives...1 point

Again, I feel bad for the PBR Riders Volunteers and the club. Basecamp needs to burn down, and get new owners. PERIOD. It's been a complete joke ever since Bill Froud Sold it...1 point

They have been found safe. FOUNDππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ» Safe and Safeffff!!!! They return by snowmobile to their chalet. -Air medic came down to ask them if he needed medical attention and everything was ok except he was very cold.1 point

Heading up to massey area soon. My bud asked if his brother could tag along, I said sure, he lives in sudbury. Yesterday my buddy calls me, tells me his brother was out riding on closed trails with no permit. I told him he is not welcome to ride with us. We all must refuse to ride with idiots. I know no one here would, but many will.1 point

A little birdie told me we may start to see some Groomer Ops here in this south this week. This does NOT mean we are close to opening just with these cold temps we are gonna try and pack some trail. Keep your eyes on the OFSC ITG and keep that snow dance happening peeps we need more snow!1 point

Wow, what a SH!T operation! They are in part to blame then. i'm beginning to wonder if any of these things are truly safe any more..1 point

Heading to a clients today and drove past the gated storage compound in Stratford that I keep my sled and Triton TC167 and I dont see my trailer in the yard. I spin around and go into the compound to find that my 21 Renegade and 21 TC167 have been stolen sometime in the last week. I dont know whether to throw up or cry right now. Chances of replacing either at this point of the year are slim to nil. I know this is a knee jerk reaction, but at this point, I am almost ready to say f-ck it and be done with sledding altogether.0 points

We got nothing here yesterday, north of Parry Sound. Last year when the trails were 'Covid' closed we could run through the bush and swamps but there is very little snow, end up plowing through bull-rushes0 points

And I'm sure it had a functioning DESS system. This is going to get real common with the 2022s where the DESS doesn't work.0 points

The problem is that the storage company only keeps video for 72 hours and it appears that the sled was stolen a week ago. It is now coming out that the storage company had a break in last Wed and someone may have got access to the electrical panel which controls the electromagnets on the gates. In my opinion, the storage company should have informed everyone to check to see if their stuff was still in the yard, but they did not.0 points
