I said let's hope that is never either of one of us. I seen this before at Tim Hortons. She wasn't 80 but 67 working full time. I see her there often. I asked her one day why are you still working? She told Me she has to pay for her granddaughter and her son. I asked her how old her grand daughter was and she said 36 🤣. I just grabbed my coffee and left. Un believable this next generation. Soon be no one to make coffee for us 🤣🤣🤣. Everything half azzz backwards now.

Common theme was sleds have become way too expensive, given the short season, coupled with inflation, interest rates, less disposable income etc. New sled prices have eclipsed what is actually sane. Only those who have more money than they know what to do with are buying. Anyone who lives modest with a budget in mind is not. It doesn’t make any fiscal sense.
UsedtoSkidoo
I see used sales completely stalled right now. Same sleds are on Marketplace and Kiijij. Only the sellers who have priced their units reasonably sell . Its a buyers market. Just wait a month and it will be even lower
stoney
Same news in the automotive world too. cutting productions, models, staff, etc…. Not just sled or weather related. I see this as prudent as a business, but still sucks. Should see another half percent cut from prime early Dec….

scottyr
The market is crap. That being said, I just sold my 23 Backcountry 850 XRS in 2 days of posting it. It was priced very aggressively IMO ($13995) but it was a 9/10 sled. Sleds are only dropping in value right now. My dealer has allotted $100K to unload used sleds in stock at a loss. Honestly, I dont even think if we got 2 feet of snow on the ground next week it would change a lot. Money is just really tight out there and a powersports vehicle is a discretionary purchase for 90% of the people out there. No one needs a sled or an atv.

What is being missed here is that both Skidoo and Polaris did the same thing earlier this year without the fanfare. From what I have read on other sites is that this is very common every year as production shifts from one product line to another. The whole industry is slow, so everyone is in the same boat, not just Cat.

No one thinks they are going broke? The only difference is that Cat is basically shuttering all production until sometime Q1. Cats PR dept should be fired immediately for putting out that Press Release worded the way it was.

crispy
Inflation sucks. Its the worst kind of tax because its the silent killer of business, and personal wealth. When the government is doing great the people are hurting. The Liberals and Dems have a lot to answer for. Its not just sleds, the boat market which has a greatly expanded season nowadays is also flagging major signs of weakness due to inflation. It aint the weather, its the monetary policy thats killing us all. Problem is the solve is long, and painful. Ufff why oh why didnt enough people pay attention to all the warnings about Trudeau in 2014? We need a complete about face on all this Liberal/NPD nonsense

Panther340
Natives along North shore of Lake Huron ( actually from Sudbury to Wawa) have all sorts of disposable income when everyone over 18 were each given checks of anywhere between 100 and 200 thousand in Oct 2024. ( treaty payout 10 billion) Heck the car dealers set up new truck models along hwy 17 to entice purchases ( many sold since ! ) I am told ATV sales crazy too . So maybe you south Ont folks should advertise your used sleds in Sudbury, Sault, Manitoulin Media. Just a thought.

My BRP dealer sold 8-10 SXS to people on The Rez when those cheques hit the mail box.

Time you tow it, fuel it. It's big bucks for an afternoon too. Only difference is you can take family with one boat, so I say that's not too bad in value either. Cost money to play and create memories.

Inflation just leads to higher prices and reduced supply of goods. Deflation creates the opposite with low prices and an abundance of goods, but most people are under the illusion deflation is not good for a thriving economy. Does our monetary system need a complete overhaul? Absolutely. End the Fed. If anyone thinks we’re required to pay our taxes to “build the roads” they’re completely delusional. A question to ask ourselves is, if they can just print money anytime they want to pay for this or that, why do we pay taxes at all? If the dollar isn’t pegged to anything, they can print as much as they want and all it does is create inflation. At least when it was backed by gold they were held somewhat accountable.

Just wait until dollar hits 50 percent exchange rate. Almost getting to point no one wants it now. Go to Florida and pay 50 percent exchange ekkkeeee. I guess that change minds of some to stay in Canada and take a snowcation!
