I am worried about land access this year. My vibe is a bunch of area's are going to remain closed until this gets resolved. Colluded take another winter to get all agreements in place by sounds of it. Cross your fingers for best.

I dont count on sledding anywhere south any longer. Between the weather and private land issues, its not worth it for me. Suds and North Bay are about as south as I'll go.

I was hoping this year would be it. I have had lots of great sledding around hailburton to Minden area and east to Whitney and pembroke and north to mattawa. This area still usually gets good snow most winters.
stoney
I’d say minden is now the border where conditions traditionally get better up to Dorset, north and east to Whitney, but that’s perspective and some might think otherwise. Rap is done, unless you are okay with mediocre conditions for some of it.

Minden was as far south as I normally would sled in area. Rama really misses park and ride, I bet. If it changes as much in next 15 years it be north bay and Sudbury as a minium to drop. Hopefully this year is better 🙏
scottyr
If my dad doesnt want to ride this winter, I doubt I will even buy an Ontario permit this year. If I have to drive 4 hrs to ride, I might as well drive 6 and go to Quebec. With my job it is easier for me to book a Thursday to Monday off than it is for me to go riding on a Sat or Sun for the day locally.
95rxl650
Thread started optimistic.....for about 5 posts. lol I got a trailer one day, sled the next day, picked up a helmet, picked up a jacket and stand today. My wife always says to me, "the world just opens up for you". So..... we are going to get snow dammit!!!
yamadan700
Our area usually does well from north of Mississauga Lake over to the Paudash and the Twin Mountain(Bobcaygeon) trails. The biggest issues are always the swampy areas, not the lack of snow. When the swamps freeze up, we are golden. Paudash trails north from their clubhouse to Lake St Peter/Whitney over towards Haliburton back down to our trails usually get early snow and it stays late. Mostly bush so it helps protect it from the sun exposure. As for the landowner MOUs, our club should be fine. Rumour on the street is that District 2 and 3 are in good shape with the MOUs.👍

stoney
I recall someone stating the OFSC will purposely not start at 01 some years for permit numbers, but rather start at 1001, 2001, etc.....some years for some reason or another. Based on a 302 number posted up so early, I would say it is safe to say they started at 01 and 300 permits could have easily been sold on day 1, when sledguy74 ordered his permit. I usually wait until the end of the month to order mine, as do many others, see what the numbers are then. Hopefully it is not down by too much considering last years bust of a winter and the way the economy is looking right now.
