We dropped in Atwood Saturday morning and on trails by 9am. Great day overall. Decided to try and stay away from heavy traffic areas. Most trails were great in the AM. By time we looped back down around, things were getting fairly tough. Good day all around. Little over 300kms on the dial today. Also hit this milestone today. Bought the sled new in 2012. Motor hasn’t been touched. Still has around 120psi each side.8 points

Its recorded and if something bad had happened there is no doubt that the recording would be viewed by the police. The sledder didn't look behind before crossing lanes. The sledder did not cross the road at 90 degrees. The sledder should have/ could have continued up the right haaand side to the road crossing and there, he could have/ should have gotten himself situated properly to cross the road properly at the road crossing. Above all this he rode up the wrong side of the road and right across the side road again while on the wrong side of the road. This is a good example of why more and more responsible truckers and trucking companies are installing camera's in their trucks.3 points

Just out for a good time on my sled, what could go wrong here…. Defintely some poor judgement, but as stated, we now have interpretations that lead people to think they are right, court battle ensues, blame assigned and another new rule or restriction put in place as a result.2 points

Snow pile in the front yard is starting. It is adding up, little by little. We didn't get the big snow event Wawa and Hawk received. I heard 40" in 48 hours. We only received 4-6". That's lake effect for you. Need to go up this week, to shovel decks, walkways, and garage, barn entries. Get out there, while you can. Ski2 points

Better yet, stop and be sure. Night riding years ago, group of 3, me leading. I looked over my shoulder and turned left assuming the 2 headlights behind me were my companions. I swear I felt the heat and smelled the antifreeze off the ol' pickup grill. I could hear his tires locked up on the hard pack as went by. It happened so fast I didnt have time to shyte myself. I felt bad for the driver because he did. I got a quick view of what the bug sees. It wont ever happen a second time and I still remember the only thought in my thick head.....hmmmm 72 Ford.2 points

There's about 5 clubs in a small area. Stoney Keppel guys had a short term issue, but they lost a night at the worst time. I caught up to the groomer just east of Shallow Lake around noon today. Good day today. Some decent trails, sunshine and -12.2 points

Either way when it ends up in court and the video is shown it would be a travesty of justice to rule against the truck driver in this situation.1 point

He have to slow down too and proceed with caution. You have to give adequate space for any vehicle wether it's a horse and buggy, bicycle etc. On my way home I seen a omish guy biking with a heavy cable spool around his arm in snow. I stopped and said give me your address and cell number I drop it off at your house. He thanked me, since it was much easier to bike in snow without it. another accident waiting to happen, he was all over road 😆.1 point

Interesting to see the differing view points here. If i was on a bench in that one? Sled guilty of careless driving. Trucker zero charges. Sled at fault 100% in my eyes.1 point
-
? Sled is at fault 100%. Drivers a total dumbass imo. He's darn lucky as mentioned above that was a real trucker and not some humbolt dolt.1 point

Same here, always stay on the west side and wait out the traffic. Most vehicles crossing that bridge are doing 100 kph because of the downhill run from either side. When available, I have crossed on the ice just to avoid that bridge.1 point

Lets go one step further. It's a combine traveling up the road turning left. He's probably running up the shoulder due to his width. But he's not stopped and is traveling the road. Not saying I'm right. But it makes for an interesting argument. If it were a motorcycle how is it interpreted? Too many drivers these days don't slow down when overtaking smaller and / or slower vehicles. Glad no one was hurt. Definitely take your time and look behind you before crossing or turning left on a road.1 point

Really? Road traffic has right of way. If that was a car, even if they signaled to come out from the shoulder, they have to enter the roadway safely, with enough distance to get in to the traffic lane, and up to speed safely with the flow of traffic, without impeding it, or causing any issues. Being a snowmobile in this situation, it is even more on the snowmobile. The road traffic always has the right of way. Ski1 point

You can tell it’s a professional driver by the hood of the truck, sledded is lucky.1 point

Rode through there Thursday and its District 5 actually. That stretch belongs to Elmira for some strange reason. The adjoining intersections on either side are in District 9. I staked that a few years ago. Wow, he was lucky the trucker was paying attention. If the trail could get put back where it was that wouldn't happen and why most people go around the signs and ride the old trail through the flats.1 point

Geez that was close, gotta pay attention for traffic1 point

Lots of amazing news for Kearney sledders. I am not going to update days and hours on this post for restaurants as they always change constantly once the trails are officially open. Best phone ahead or check facebook pages for individual sites to see up to the minute schedules. First off, the Legion. Amazing rebuild of their parking lot, probably increased the parking area 4 times what it was before. Lots of room now for trucks and sled trailers. Also the Legion has had a major facelift and Donna and her team at DJ's restaurant inside have signed up for their 4th winter. New at the Legion this year has been breakfast buffets on weekends and often buffets on weekend dinner times. Free pool, darts etc. Children are welcome in the main dining room. Remember please, if you just park and ride and do not purchase food or alcohol, but DO go in and use the bathrooms, throw a few bucks in the tip jar at the counter, those lovely ladies have to clean the bathrooms and stock the paper, soap etc. At Fork on Main, April and her team are hard at work running what was previously known as Suds on Main. Same great menu a few years now, liquor licence and often April has live entertainment at no extra charge. They also have dart nights. Right next to Fork on Main in the little brown building has a take out coffee shop now with grab and go muffins or fruit and a small veggie selection. This is run by Doug and he is open 7 days a week. Pit Stop 518 and Pit Stop cafe are no more. Unfortunately. However Pit Stop 518 still has Yurts for overnight rent, complete with woodstove and firewood. Very nice set up. Scarlet Point Resort on Main Street has high end townhomes for daily rent, at very reasonable prices. Lots of parking there and very popular with tourists. Edgewater is always a highly recommended resort, restaurant is open almost 7 days a week and they have gas. Fetterleys gas station is still the place in town for gas, quick coffee and Heather has opened up the bays and renovated and turned that area into a hardware store. Rickwards Canoe Algonquin Store is still going strong. They also have hot coffee, lots of grocery items as well and Rickwards Polaris Dealership is on the same property. And now for very exciting news ....... Silversands out past Edgewater is reopened under new management. Rooms, and restaurant up and running as of this week, lots of parking. Very reasonable overnight rates and the dining room can seat lots of sledders at once. They do not have social media pages up and running yet, I wouldnt get my info off of old facebook pages. If you would like reservations at this time please call 6478600631 and Lazmill will answer any questions you have about the restaurant or rooms. Had his breakfast this week, very good. Coffee was excellent. The LCBO is still closed on Mondays but the variety store in Emsdale has an LCBO outlet, as does Hope's Novar grocery store, which also has gas. If you are wanting pizza Yettis pizza on 518 in Emsdale is the town go to place for Pizza. Hope this is helpful for anyone needing a refresher on Kearney or new sledders just thinking of trying out this area. Stay safe and enjoy our trails!1 point
