revrnd
Switched to snow about half an hour ago. W/ the amount of water laying in the low spots in out back yard & the bare ground under evergreens, I can't see anyone having a pleasant ride tomorrow. Looking out the window at home at a green lawn is somewhat disheartening however the rain quickly changed to freezing rain and then to snow in less than 20 minutes. I just got back from the store and when I left the truck was just starting to get a skim of ice. By the time I came out of the store it was now big flakes of snow. If the lake effect snow machine kicks in along with the lower temps we could see squalls come in off the bay and dump a lot of snow. Just like they can be wrong when they predict lots they can be wrong when they predict a little. Exactly! It’s been snowing like crazy here for a while now. Lots more coming too. That’s at 6:50. All snow leading up to it and lots coming in behind after
Baylaker
I’m thinking I may run up to mactier tomorrow if those trails stay yellow. They’re getting new snow as well...
livin' on the b103
Same thing here, raining this morning then temps starting dropping like a rock. Went from rain to freezing rain to snow in no time at all. Enough snow has fallen to cover most of the evils from the thaw, now it will need to snow a ton for the next couple of days. Sad but true I like your optimism 02sled. I'm with you on that one. I driver her there, come home, then pick her up, so two trips there and back for a total of 150km. We live in the middle of nowhere closest town where there was work for her is 25kms, but she ended up a little further. Being it was her first job, I am willing to support her in getting there, but will not drive that distance on black ice.
cravesledding
Just arrived at cottage drove through major whites outs on 400 north ,started driving from Toronto at +10 and raining did some running around stopped in Barrie for lunch and picked up some supplies for sleds -13 in Parry Sound feels like -22 lake is freezing up before my eyes. From what I see from here we did lose a lot of snow but looks like base is holding up on trial by our place.Snow just tapered off and looks like it dropped about 2".Been sledding since the 80's in Parry Sound and this is really the norm for Jan thaw.Fortunate to be riding in Wild Bill's club so would not be surprised to be on trail in the morning. If it does look thin I will just head off and build our rink and enjoy some pond hockey.Hang in there gang its not over yet.
livin' on the b103
I haven't been down it but the view from my driveway isn't pretty. I think south of here might have faired better as it had more grooming and better base. If the snow keeps up you don't need a lot to open a rail trail. Picture a wide yellow line for the trail then overlay a slightly narrower red line on the trail. Primarily red but if you look either side of the red line is a very narrow yellow line. Something tells me they should ensure that the coloured trail lines they lay down should be exactly the same width to prevent that. Imagine if they had a green line ever so slightly narrower than the red. You could have a heavy green bordered by a very narrow red bordered by a very narrow yellow. Oh I know. I was making a joke because the colour of the red is much brighter than it was yesterday. Big stop sign red saying stay off! Lol

What always freaks me out is that we usually come back from it pretty quick, and no matter how much of wash out it was we usually come back better than we were before. Swamps and lakes seem to tighten up better, and the trail base ends up being much more robust. IMO if I can put on 4 or 500 kms before the Jan thaw it's super bonus riding. From what I hear at home in Port Perry we're really bad off, went from grooming some decent quality snow on Tuesday night, to almost all dirt, except for areas we built up a real deep base from dragging drifts and moving lots of snow. These pic's are from Tuesday night,s run had no less than 8 inches of good hard base.

jow
Had a good looking start.....it's a start all over again with Ma nature. Just a rant.....to the little brain dead entitled pos that can't read, stay on trail means just that. Had a land owner grant us permission to run trail through alfalfa field. Put stay on trail signs in multiple spots. Owner was very hard to convince but in the end let club do it. After one grooming I checked stakes and signs one more time and low and behold boon docking tracks in the deeper pow 100 ft off trail tore up all to $hit. I hope you start your sled and seize it every day for the rest of your life.
slomo
Forced by the general uselessness of the OFSC trail guide these days, I have prostituted myself for the sake of my participation in Ontario snowmobiling and got a facebook account. Back to the old days of checking each club's website for trail conditions or facebook as it seems nowadays. However, while you're sitting around the house today, here's something positive you can do - was on the Argyle Snowmobiling club page and noticed this: This trail was closed last year and made a big hole in the system - been on it myself as many of us have here. If you have facebook, why not go there and leave a message thanking Ms. Dobbs for reconsidering and allowing use of her land. A large outpouring would help offset the bad behaviour of the arsholes who got the trail closed in the first place.
