  1. When I rode Gaspe on sled I used BRP Go app. No cell service in a lot of the area but gps in phone tracks your position and updates as you go…Was awesome..I thought those same trails were atv-sxs trails during the rest of year. I have not seen it but I think Quebec has an atv trail map website same sort of thing as the Quebec snowmobile trail website?
  2. $440 to buy one early this year. Ouch. Has anyone heard what the OFSC is talking about for next season?
  3. That is what all the Quebec guys do. The dealers call it "sale by accommodation"
  4. After having to cancel Quebec trip over Christmas and again in March (was to do new Liskeard - Chibougamau loop this week) with my 16 year old son (as he could legally ride in Quebec this year) - wasn’t going to let a March break pass without something. we had previously cancelled a trip out to Revelstoke over family day weekend as they had a major thaw - so we decide to rebook for Wednesday and Thursday this week. best single day of sledding I’ve ever had. Think I’ve even improved from last year!
  5. Thanks for sharing. Only a 7.5 hr drive for me and only doing a QC sled permit next year, so I will add it to my destination list. Mont Apica was an old Early Warning radar base, back in the day. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Canadian Forces Station Mont Apica (CFS Mont Apica) was a radar station of the Pinetree Line, located in Mont-Apica, Quebec, Canada, during the Cold War. The station opened as RCAF Station Mont Apica in 1952 and had a staff of some 500 persons at its peak. 2452 AC&W squadron, a reserve unit from Quebec City, trained at Mont Apica until the squadron was disbanded in 1960. Political and technological changes made the station redundant and it closed in 1990.[1] No. 12 Radar Squadron, Mont Apica's lodger unit, was transferred to CFB Bagotville. There was also a weather radar used by the military and later by the Meteorological Service of Canada. After the station's closure, it was transferred to the Lac Castor site of the Canadian weather radar network.
  6. We are supposed to go to Quebec from the 8th-13th and even that is looking questionable by the looks of the long range. Early next week is really mild everywhere in Quebec followed by zero snow. I am seriously tempted to go to Cochrane or somewhere on Thursday, ride Friday and Sat and come home Sunday, by myself.
  7. Its apples and oranges, Ontario is not Quebec and can't be Quebec. We have to deal with what Ontario has -and find better ways to deal with what Ontario has.
  8. Our Quebec march break plans may have to be cancelled again (cancelled Quebec over Christmas). Reviewing Revelstoke options again as a replacement / now that they now have some snow back …..

I just got back from a week in Quebec and the trails were mostly good they desperately need snow in places as there are a lot rocks poking through on the trail. I just gave my sled a quick once over yesterday and was shocked and disappointed to see that I have about 8-10 bent studs and my carbides have way more wear than I should have after 1200kms of riding. All of this was caused by the lack of snow. With the free weekend just wrapping up today and the extreme traffic that the trails will have seen combined with weeks warm up it might take a couple of weeks to get things back to decent conditions. My wife is going to Whistler next weekend and I am hoping to get for a short run again in Quebec but I will be watching the trail conditions.

My Ontario permit is still in the envelope after saying I wasnt buying one this year. My Quebec permit is stuck to the sled. If I have to drive 8-10 hrs to ride any more this season, it will be in Quebec. I think I may put my OFSC permit on Marketplace and see if I can recoup $100 from someone wanting to go to Cochrane or somewhere....

    Todays Ride

I just came home yesterday from Abitibi Quebec. In my opinion snow levels seem about the same everywhere throughout Ontario and eastern Quebec. We had dinner in downtown North bay and I honestly think there is more snow in Orangeville. I wouldn’t consider riding anywhere until we get cold and snow.
  12. I might be wrong here but I thought the cap was $500K which was why the insurance included in the FCMQ is only $500k. But I also remember something to the effect that the limitation had an end date which was fast approaching (or may have even come and gone)..There was some big rumblings within the OFSC over a Quebec case where a rider from North bay was award3d $3.2M after being injured by hitting a buried stump on the side of the trail. The concern was that the case precedent could water down the Assumption of Risk agreement every permit buyer agrees to. https://northernontario.ctvnews.ca/man-awarded-3-28m-after-snowmobile-trek-from-north-bay-to-quebec-ends-in-tragedy-1.6409886
  13. Heading to LaBannick Friday night and then riding to Lassere Saturday over to Amos and back to rouyn Sunday and back to the truck Monday. Anyone on the site heading that direction to be sure to stop and say hi and maybe we can have a beverage. Look for a, 2020 Polaris 600 retro graphics. Hopefully bump into someone from the site.
  14. As I get older a more advanced suspension starts to be more and more important. Even quebec seems to be rougher than I remember (latest trip to Mont Valin). As long as it doesn't impact handling I'd be willing to spend the extra for the DS for sure. My wife has a Cat with the iAct but it adjusts all the dampers together which I feel is the weak point of that system. P seems to have delivered something special here.
  15. That’s too much for a used sled that’s 4yrs old likely with no warranty. I can get a brand new 24’ right now out in Quebec for $16,499
  16. I rode my sons 550 Sport a little the day we got out. It is light, has decent jam, and if you are a good rider, riding Muskoka trails, ( not Quebec and up north), it will keep up with anyone. what I loved about it most was no temp gauge and scratchers non sense. Gas, oil, and go. You can still have a lot of fun w/o spending 25k plus on a stupid snowmobile. i have never not had a sled, 25+ is the end for me.
  17. My buddies still want to go to Quebec this weekend. I suggested we still go somewhere on a guys weekend but leave the sleds at home.
  18. It was a local guy in Quebec I know that told me. Not sure who did the count but with no snow anywhere else rideable in Ontario and Quebec it’s feasible that there were a crap ton of sleds there. there is a lot of guys that could trailer there for a day also.
  19. Looking for some suggestions for places to stay in Quebec & day trip out of. Don't really want to do a saddlebag tour this year. We normally like to ride in the 250-300kms per day & would like to find a decent location to stay at for a 3-4 days & ride out of 1 place. We have ridden northern Ontario so many times over the last 20 plus years that our group is looking for a change. Any first hand experience at different spots would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
  20. Tour companies. Its a HUGE business in Quebec. They buy thousands of new machines every year. Contant Group will sell over 1000 machines every year to tour companies. The dealer in St Michel has 2-3 customized 52 ft trailers to deliver units to the outfitters.

Im at 2350kms with 300 or so opening trails around here. 5 days total riding trails in quebec. Almost 9000km on the 600r now.
  22. In Quebec right now doing the Cote Nord. This morning stopped into the Ski Doo dealer in Baie Comeau. There was 137 new sleds on site still in the crate. No idea how many the dealer would sell in a normal but that is a crazy amount of sleds to carry over

I have about 1000km in Ontario and 1350km in Quebec so far this year.
  24. Headed to KL friday morning for one last boot, as we were planning on doing Quebec but cancelled it now. Looks like Cochrane is getting 5 cms per hour as we speak ...
