signfan
Just checked our bay on Skootamatta lake. Not Muskoka, but a good indication of cottage country. We're the same distance north. We are in a small bay that is first to freeze. We have layers of ice with slush and water between them. If it ever all froze they're be over a foot there. It hasn't though. Inch of ice, 4" of slush. Then another 4-6 inches of poor quality ice and more water with I believe a third layer under it. It was getting tough to swing the axe without getting soaked. Definitely not ideal. The 2' of snow at x-mas followed by a week of rain made a mess. There's a foot of snow on top again keeping it from freezing through. I'll stick to land for the next few weeks. Worst ice conditions I've seen here in years. There is some volume, but it isn't that hard blue ice you like to see. This was all checked after last nights low which hit -36. Up to -19 now and rising.
Steve F6
We could use another foot of snow, but i've seen worse for the first weekend of HGR trails. 6-7/10. Definately been spoiled last week in Quebec.

Looks like someone track packed the stake line today so by tomorrow that should be tight but its a sketchy year for ice. Pretty sure i was the first one to cross Mary Lake North to South today, its wet out there. Definitely some spots that did not seem much more than slush. People were crossing the south end where the trail is usually staked, again its soft, but that should harden up overnight now that its been broken.
Steve F6
Anyone got info on tall pines trail 66,67? Logging up there this year?
Steve F6
Baysville and HGR had the trails in great shape yesterday. Had to get out before the rain. Didnt scrape one rock the whole way. The baysville express loop has logging going on. Highlighted is the plowed section.

Rain coming Thursday too if it makes it to you not sure. Calling for an inch in southern Ontario. That be it south of bArrie I bet.

We used to love doing that loop after arriving at a buddies cottage on Leech lake late Friday evening.....than doing the Leech Lake 500! Too bad about the logging.

Re:Leaf
I drove to Gatineau today to pick up some doors. The trails around Bancroft and east towards Renfrew were able to keep their base.
Steve F6
Not bad. We still got a base but its soft today in hgr. Scraping the odd rock but even the road runs were'nt bad. Should freeze up tonight -13c. Was out putting up new map sign boards on east side. Open house tomorrow at the groomer shop. Free bbq and vintage sleds on display. Hoping for a good turn out! 6

I’m sure some clubs are likely out assessing/grooming as we speak in hopes of opening for the weekend. Hopefully that storm brought some decent snow to the areas that need it. My guess would be that we’ll see some more colour later today or early tomorrow…hopefully 🤞🏼
Nunz
We posted on FB conditions yesterday on the status of our trails, it will be a miracle if they reopen again this season, lots of water everywhere and we took a huge loss on our base this week.
