    Weather

I hear ya. I have a cottage in Huntsville and have yet to ride up there ( obvious reasons ). I did receive a trail update from my local club saying “ The ASC Team has been busy getting trails ready for the season. Depending on the weather, etc we are probably still about a week away from opening. “ . This was dated Jan 27. The last few years it’s been a later and later start. Lakes haven’t been freezing over like they used to and snow hasn’t arrived as early as it usually did. I Never got out on my lake once last year ( not staked ) . I am not complaining, because, I don’t! I have simply put my sled in the back of my truck instead of leaving it there ( which has been the norm for last 25 yrs lol ) and bring it home to gta. I have been lucky enough to get out and enjoy about 700 k of the southern district ——- so far,

Exactly why I got out yesterday

    Todays Ride

I got out yesterday as well. I started in Erin and went north to Orangeville, then looped up towards Creemore. There are some very nice trails in the Mansfield and Creemore area! Lightly snowing most of the day. Railed south from Dundalk was smooth whole way down to Orangeville aside from some minor drifting in spots. The wind was blowing pretty good so there were some rocky areas , not to many though. Groomer was out south of Orangeville but more snow is needed especially in bush as previous poster mentioned.
  6. Haha must of missed you in the parking lot at Linwood.. I left from there as well. Very accurate report.

Always nice to bump into fellow OC’rs on the trail! Today, Rode from Linwood , north up to Mt Forest and loops around Palmerston and Listowel. Conditions were pretty good. Some rough patches though , not enough to stop me from going again. 😉
  8. Started the day in Orangeville and rode the rail bed up to Owen Sound. A nice 200 k day to kick the season off. Seriously , I couldn't believe how good the conditions were considering where we were at 2 weeks ago! Great day of riding and maybe saw 40 sleds through out the day .. no to busy at all! Nice flat trail and a lot of snow , especially as u get north . Get out and enjoy!
  9. Thx for heads up. I will try calling Winnipeg , but as Ski said if no result will bite the bullet. As for troubleshooting, I have 4 batteries. All work fine . Light comes on and I can change the settings, just no heat. Also , one glove stopped working 2 mos ago and the other last week.
  10. Looking for some help here. I bought FXR heated gloves approximately 3-4 yrs ago from Royal Dist. Just recently, they both stopped working. Can’t figure this out, I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. I called Royal and they passed me off to FXR. I tried calling them but they are in Quebec and no one could speak English. Luckily my daughter was home and can speak a little French . I requested someone call me from the company who could speak English. I never received that call . I then sent an email outlining the problem I’m having with my gloves and I never got a response. I really don’t want to fork over another $400 ! I really like the gloves. Am I unrealistic to think that these gloves should last longer than 4 yrs? Would anyone have any advice on how to possibly fix them or possibly know where I can take them to get fixed?
  11. Sorry, I’m just looking at itg, shows part of Penn red . Maybe it is staked but keeping it closed?
  12. I see Lake of Bays is now stakes as well. Any update on the rest of Penn and Fairy lakes status?
  13. Yesterday made the trip to Baysville….well worth the drive! And apparently in the knick of time as I see trails have closed. Rode up to Dwight . Did the 65 loop which was awesome and 64 out and back to kawagama lake, which was even better ( freshly groomed and no traffic ). I found the conditions to be really good especially after last weeks warm up and rain. Yes there was a few shady spots ( very few ) and the trail softened up as the day went by but seemed like plenty of snow and todays warm up really shouldn’t be that damaging . Lakes were great to run. ( see pic of Dickie and Raven Lake ) and for what little road running there was, some roads still covered and others you could grab enough of the snow bank . With 10 cm 🤞🏻 forecasted tomorrow and colder temps I’m hoping to get up there soon again. See pics attached
  14. Hey Steve, would you still recommend coming to Baysville area ( tomorrow , Tues ) for a day trip? You seem to have your finger on the pulse. Trail conditions after this weekend? Road running? Any input would help. Thx.
  15. This is a pic I took of Fairy Lake on Thursday. Doesn’t look very promising. With that said , my wife saw 2 sleds go across last Saturday ( cold snap ) .. crazy in my opinion. I rode the route SF6 mentioned on Wednesday. From Baysville - Dwight and trail conditions were excellent . How it held up after the rain? I don’t know? I did ride across Dickie and Raven Lake, both were staked and hard packed along stake line. Talking to other sledders at lunch they told me tracks were out on Lake of Bays ( not staked ) . I stuck to land trails and staked lakes.
  16. Thx for info. I’ll be starting in Whitney. I see where the granite is. Now how about gas in Bancroft area
  17. Looking for some info here. I was thinking of riding Whitney to Bancroft mid week . First anyone ride these trails in the last couple day? Conditions? And second , is there a place easily accessible for a lunch stop in Bancroft? Also is gas available in Bancroft. I see on trail guide you have to cross river and go into the town? I’ve never been there, any info would help. Thx

    B110

Anyone been riding this trail lately? Orangeville to Owen Sound ? Conditions? Not far to Orangeville for me, usually ride at cottage in Huntsville and I’m unfamiliar with B110. I noticed a section of red trail around Dundalk. Is there away around that? Or should I start my day there? Also any parking tips in either place would help. I’m looking to go tomorrow. Next question is more of a technical one. I load my sled in the back of my pick up. I recently leased a new truck , but when I returned my old one they wanted to charge me ( didn’t happen ) for damage done to the liner from my sleds studs , carbides. Would a sheet of plywood down suffice? Any other ideas would help. Thx Good to be back on forum after summer absence . I’ve been reading or should I say catching up on all the posts. Really good useful info here!
  19. My sled was in for its first service and upon inspecting it when I picked it up, I noticed my trail pass missing. Guy thinks where I affixed it was porous and wind could of lifted this off my sled without me even noticing. I still have the paperwork that comes with it and my permit #. I was told to go on line and pay $15 for a replacement. I can’t seem to find where to do this. Anyone else lose their pass? Can anyone offer any advice as I plan on riding this week.
  20. The first part out of Témiscaming is as you described. Trail is scraped down so there are some gravel and yes branches. But honestly that’s about 5 k . The rest past that , what I experienced was fresh groom with good base. Yes muskoka imo I think it’s good to go
  21. On the advice of a fellow OC ‘er I took a 4 hr drive from Mississauga to Témiscaming yesterday. Picked up my new 850 on Thursday and had to ride it immediately. If you are looking for amazing early season riding and don’t mind the drive ( I went up and back same day ) I highly recommend . Day pass was $65 ( I believe HF is $55 , and over 3 hrs for me to get there ) and there were ample , groomed , with lots of snow , trails. I rode from Témiscaming ( you can park at Esso ) to Latulipe, there is gas and a restaurant there. It was a total of 280 k return. I passed a total of 7 sled the whole day, 2 which were police. Btw if you go , don’t forget to attach a rear view mirror on left side of sled. I was stopped on trail and given a full inspection, they were very nice , but let me know it was law to mirror ( at least one, left side ) on machine. They gave me a warning and sent me on my way. What a great way to start the season. LOVE the new ride!
