Canuck
Ah, I just checked it out. Looks like a little creative advertising hyperbole. 20 cm of snow on the ground? Seems funny that Kenny hasn't posted any pics of that. To me, once the original owner cut down all the trees surrounding the place, it became just another motel at the side of the road. However, they do seem eager for the snowmobile traffic, which is always a good sign. With possibly one exception, the motels in Kap could care less. Curious - who's the 'good guy' in Kap? We've always been treated well at Super 8 Kap (starting with their first year of operation - and they're admittedly teeny tiny sled lock-up. At least they tried on that count, lol). Big Pussy
Stayed at the Apollo on the west end of Kap several times. Resturant next door. Lock up garage out back. Used it once to replace a thermostat. BP
revrnd
Used to stay at the Apollo but w/ the lack of pool then hot tub over ensuing seasons & no reduction in rates, we went elsewhere.
PISTON LAKE CRUISER
Used to stay at the Apollo but w/ the lack of pool then hot tub over ensuing seasons & no reduction in rates, we went elsewhere. 20 years ago the Chimo was our stay of choice in Cochrane (and it wasn't too bad back then). Even then we were looking for rooms/bar/restaurant in the same facility.

At least you had room entertainment at the Chimo back then,if you could stay up till 11:00 pm they had porn on tv,then you were up all night lol. Muskoka Man
Wow ,this is great news for the NAI,we quit going there years ago, will really miss the guy at reception with the sweat stained white under shirt on same guy overbooked us one year ,went down the rd to the westway and never looked back, sounds like the new blood is giving their all
revrnd
Wow you are the ancient sledder! You make me sound like I'm STG's older brother. I'm thinking it was '02 when we last stayed in IF. It was Valentine's Day & there were quite a few younger locals having dinner. There was a couple sitting beside us (she was rather attractive). The waiter, a younger chap that we recognised from a previous trip, pulled up a chair at the table & started to chat her up. LOL
Claire Voyant
Curious - who's the 'good guy' in Kap? We've always been treated well at Super 8 Kap (starting with their first year of operation - and they're admittedly teeny tiny sled lock-up. At least they tried on that count, lol). Care to elaborate ? Soup hasn't been stirred up in a while, we're due .... The Super 8 is the new game in town, so seems to have been attracting a lot of the sledders. The Comfort Inn is under new management and had zero interest this year in supporting the Kap Sno-Rovers. Crossing the highway there at the intersection is always a bit risky. The Park Inn (beside Timmies on the highway) and the Advantage Motel are family run by folks new to the north. When approached for sponsorship, the response was "we never see any snowmobilers here"...not seeming to understand the logic of if you support us, the riders will come. The Apollo is in sad need of an update, and just doesn't seem to be a "first pick" on peoples itineraries. The old Mattagami Motel has been totally renovated and re-branded as a Travelodge and is very eager to see sledders this winter, having purchased a large ad on the District map. I really don't know how much sled traffic they got last year, as they are a block off the highway, so it's been out of sight, out of mind. I have no stake in the Travelodge but I'd like to see them do well. Tucked behind the Esso station they're close to gas, the highway, the trails, several restaurants and the Sunshine Tavern. I've heard their rates are about $30 cheaper than the Super 8. Hoping to read more about the place sometime this winter from one of you folks..... hokkkey
I've heard it both ways...."new management" and "new owners." Which one is the case? I have been traveling to Ontario from Michigan to ride every year for probably the last ten years or so. I've stayed at the NAI many times and unfortunately have experienced it first hand how it has been run into the ground. My last two stays were absolutely horrible and I vowed to never stay there again. That's too bad, because the place really has everything the typical sledder is looking for. Can anyone out there elaborate on the NAI and it's current state?

Viperules700
Oink, onik !! That pretty much sums it up. I heard some guys were happy sleeping in the garage because it was cleaner then their rooms. Hopefully someone will wander over there for lunch or dinner and can report back! hokkkey
Well, I've been more than happy since switching from the NAI to the Best Western with its short walk to the Ice Hut. No sense in giving NAI another shot. I don't think I'd risk it even if everything was free.

Techdenis007
They seem to be taking some interest in sledders ... saw an ad today (maybe on their Facebook page) advertising prices and availability of rooms & suites. Will report back in my trip report!. good for keeping a open mind,$ for $ the place is best for group of sledder by far.the only way they will fix the place up is when people show up.i've work for hotel owners, they hire locals.like every business, its numbers...grants help restoring placing, but only if used...i'd try again for gathering...be shame to see it boarded up
