  1. I headed up D for breakfast at Port Sydney this morning. It was minus 11, the trails were great, so I kept on riding. Orrville Bakery still has the best coffee in the area. No trouble stowing a small takeout bag in the back of the sled. On the return trip I encountered a northbound flock of sleds, one of which had NUNZ on the windshield. No pictures. Saw a guy sunning himself on Lake Joe. He said he had 12 inches of ice. I like the colour of this large cottage. I've used a similar colour myself in a few places. Gassed up at Campbell's Landing to avoid the bare pavement at the gas bar in Gravenhurst. Went back up D to Bracebridge before calling it a day. The trail is holding up well, but the road sections are deteriorating.

  2. Had a great run yesterday. Left Harriston, headed towards markdale and back.Almost 300km and most trails were awesome.Good idea to close but not sure these trails will survive. The south did a great job this year with the snow they had .Big thankyou to all the volunteers.

  3. Got out with my son on ofsc trails for the first time ever on his own (bought a 2 day trail pass) did a 142km loop from kincardine / port elgin / inland and back to kincardine. Lot’s of gravel, muddy fields, snow drifted in trails and some great wide open fields. will be looking for a bigger sled next year, as he burned over 20 l for the 142 km loop on the 300 tundra......

  7. Nearly all clubs in Western Ontario west of highway 6 have closed their trails until the weather gets cold again and/or until we get more snow. There's a lot of red on the ITG now. St. Clements trails have a lot of dirt showing especially on plowed fields. There is not a lot of snow cover on the fields that have winter crops planted and we need to protect our landowners investment. Hopefully we can get the trails opened again later this week.

  10. Mrs Buoy and I started out from Atikokan this morning with our destination being the White Otter Castle. Lots of fresh snow on the trail, a few km of plowed logging roads , and slow-going on some twisty hydro lines had us alter our route and return to Atikokan from the west.

  11. Thanks Jason for making folks and me aware of this place....perfect place to start out on the Wolf Loop in the STP if that is on your list or over around Lake Wahnipitae....Skeed...Capreol...Garson ...Falconbridge....etc. Nice light show to start your morning off..... Modest clean well equipped and direct access to the trail system and there are few of those in Sudbury. Found it quite comfortable for one person, larger rooms are available. Good heat and hot water. A type of breakfast is available, but I brought my own, so can't comment on that. As Jason mentioned, pizza can be ordered and delivered or if you give Mike the owner a heads up before a certain time in the evening, he will go and pick up your take out order for you saving disconnecting your truck and trailer. Free local calls. During that 4.5 richter seismic event in Sudbury at 10 am, my sled fell into a hole that suddenly opened up close to the motel and Mike came right over to help me dig it out. Not many motel owners will do that! He then went and marked the hole to prevent further calamities. Mike has been at the motel nearly 2 years, is a local snowmobile STP map advertiser, and despite not having the time to sled himself, has downloaded the OFSC phone app in order to inform his sledding customers of the trail conditions and where to go. A large batch of paper maps is available. Lots of truck and trailer parking. I was given some coupons in case snowmobilers wanted an offered deal at the motel - I have taken a picture of them here - print out and trim should work as well as the original coupons I think.... As usual, when doing this sort of thing, I have received no discounts or other offers not available to other sledders , unlike some.

  13. It was a nasty yellow mess... Best just avoid it. Was told only froze over 2 days when we got there a week ago yesterday..

  14. I think your right, I’m also thinking the same thing. This snow is disappearing very quick. Yesterday was thin in some areas and today will just cook the trails. There’s still tomorrow to get through which will be warm like today. I think the south might be over. Unless we get another 20-30cm...

  17. I’ve been running the lake from close to where the island is South down to where the lake is staked. This area is good with lots of sled tracks. I haven’t been North of the island yet. I have seen tracks heading that way though...

  18. LOL Nope. Not me. Closest I've ridden to that area is Kaladar via Tweed probably 10 years ago. Spoke w/ a 1200 owner on the way out of the village & suggested a loop for them. Saw several other Buzzards during the day. Didn't see any teal or magenta 'doos.

  20. Also, noticed a lone rider on a Blizzard somewhere near Portland. He was taking a break just off the trail in a small pull off area. Thought maybe revrnd was in the area, but didn't look like the coat I had seen in another thread.

  21. Great day on some new to me trails. Mostly old rail lines but the Top E portion between Smith Falls and Harrowsmith is really nice, not just a straight line like the 311 is. Too bad this warm spell will likely screw up that area, wide bare spots on the K+P just north of Harrowsmith. Just over 300k for the day. Thanks to all the club's we passed through today.

  22. No worries revrnd, new one was opened before the old one closed. Whew.

  25. The owner of the Mack cabover on the post at Gillies starts it up once a year and lets it run for an hour or so. My buddy knows the owner and was up there for the biker weekend the day it was running a few years ago.

  26. 09MXZ and I rode from Heart of Ontario clubhouse to Haliburton. Took side trail through the Pinery on way up. Took 340 on way back, through the Pinery again. Trails are in great shape from Fenelon Falls to Hali. Rail trail and fields from Cannington to Fenelon were great. Bare patches in woods and along roads. Will need snow to stay yellow. Great day. Another 240 kms. Off to Florida for 12 days. I wasn't given a choice. Lol.

  28. I recommend taking trail 11 from main B trail it meets just south of Whitney and goes across top of hailburton like plc says. Fuel at hailburton forest at base camp. I recommend getting off trail 11 after sherbourne lake and taking 61 to 64 which goes across raven lake and directly into Dorset. You can fuel and eat there as well, so Lots of fuel on route. Also take tall pines 62 to 63 and into Dorset. A few different ways from trail 11. If you have time can explore some more of tail pines trail. They are always steller since most riders ride b thru hailburton and up to Dorset which is a long slow ride and brutal when rough. This route by passes all of that and snow is usually deeper to north as well. I prefer lake route when open.

  29. Trail 11 is way above Haliburton. It runs across Kennisis Lake and Redstone Lake and meets the B trail going to Whitney. Gas at Base Camp on Kenisis Lake, in Whitney, Spectacle Lake Lodge and Barrys Bay (if going right in to town.)

  30. Rode out of the cottage again yesterday, a bit of fresh snow made things pretty good. Took my BIL out for his first ever trail ride, he had a blast using the F8. The 2nd pic is our first stop of the morning, and where the appropriate times to stand up on the trail conversation happened maybe a little too much YouTube before our ride. Great trails, weather, and company made for another awesome day. That being said I’d be surprised if the trails around Midland / Wasaga make it through today let alone the next few days. We saw a lot more brown on our way back yesterday afternoon.

  32. Wife and I did 225kms out of belwood again today. Trail we’re absolutely fantastic everywhere we went. Just mint! Stopped at Drayton chop house for lunch. That place has amazing poutines, awesome rock and roll music and just an overall awesome atmosphere. Couldn’t have asked for a better day! The wind really started cutting through us on the way home though, very windy this afternoon. Hoping tomorrow will be less windy. wife wants a castle now...

  33. Since my trails finally opened, I sledded through Arnprior last weekend and saw that the closed LCBO on Daniel street and A trail is being used as a staging parking lot. Very convenient, right next to the trail.
