Never been a dodge guy, but I think they are onto something with this new ramcharger hybrid. https://www.ramtruck.ca/en/ramcharger Makes sense. You loose the tranny and the transfer case. Replace it with electric motors and a generator. Kinda the best of both worlds. You get an ev for daily driving. Will still get you up north on a 6 - 8 hr haul without ridiculous charging stops. Should be decent for towing capability. Be interesting to see some reviews.

Technology is changing fast. batteries in construction equipment have increased in charge capacity by 30-40% over last 5-6 years. Super Fast charging batteries and Super fast chargers that are capable of charging from a small on board generator. i have seen a 100t crawler crane that has this system. The batteries can run for 45mins on their own. smaller onboard diesel generator burns less then half the diesel the standard crane would burn. Or this crane can be plugged into electrical grid and run off electricity. Hydrogen engines being introduced in construction equipment.

What would you get empty driving down the highway. 14 ish L per 100?

The 6.0L is a very reliable, been refined over the years and has proven to be a solid winner. I’m sure some people have had problems with them, but for the most part the engine just works. Definitely not a winner in the mileage department, but what big block is?
-
Yes, definitely the loser for mileage. mine is ok if I’m not towing, it’s when I’m hauling around 5-6ton is when it starts to get a little thirsty.
-
That’s a diesel - talking about gassers in the HD series and their wonderful fuel mileage. I’m not complaining, just the way it is.
-
Getting 20-21mpg hwy with my 2022 Ram 2500 Cummins MegaCab. 30,000kms on the ODO.

Ya, my 6.4 in the dodge ain’t winning no fuel mileage competitions, but what is in a 3/4 ton truck. It’s pretty crazy the difference between a 1/2 truck and a HD truck.
-
I need a 3/4 ton for work. But I have decided to keep my 6.0L I know a guy that has one of those 3.0L diesel’s and it’s phenomenal on fuel. I wish I could say the same about my truck lol
-
Just an FYI. If you dont need a HD. Buy the baby duramax. Mine is phenomenal with fuel consumption (better than most cars) and It will pull a hell of a lot
-
We see, I think new engines will be much simpler they claim. Fuel management system was issues too on smaller v8's. I am still driving my 2010 Silverado. Most likely keep it until it's dead. It's very easy to work on and doesn't have all those fancy systems. My mechanic said he buy it off me in a second. He drives an 2003 for similar reasons. Has 450 k kms on iT. Best motor seems to be 3.0 L diesel. I just wouldn't get first version of it. Second version they fixed all flaws 👌

I have a 2020 F250 with the Godzilla motor. So far it works pretty good, no problems with it.
-
Blatantly ignoring a "well known" problem - resulting in numerous failures and customers left holding the bag = class action and punitive damages. There are many reasons for "problems"

Usually you hear the bad on the interwebs, people rarely come online to post the good and just carry on with their day. Just like the bias towards the other manufactures, case in point, people still think Chrysler has tranny issues…never had one issue yet. I know I have a bias towards GM, but I had a rented truck the other month and thought it was a great truck, albeit a newer one. I think all three have their strengths and weakness’, pick your poison and hope for the best. As for not fixing a problem that is well known, IDK about that, does it happen, sure, but it gets blown out of proportion IMO when some folks have a bad experience that perhaps was not handled well by a dealer or competent mechanic. If you can, try and talk to people you see on the road that has the truck or product you are interested in, most are happy to share their thoughts that you won’t see online.

I've never heard much praise for the 6.0. Not that I ever heard anyone complain about reliability, but milage. Everyone I takled to always said that if you needed the power of the 6.0, you may as well git the 8.1. They both got about the same milage, and the 8.1 had way more power. ??? Come on fella's, you're not really puting much on those motors! Mr's O typically gits a newer 'Burban at 400K miles, which is over 600K klicks. I think she's around 340/350 (?) currently, and we just had new bearings / crush sleeve / and even axles put in the rear end. This is the 3rd rear end we have had to rebuild in a row in the 300K range. No real issues with the motors. Tranny rebuilt around 225? ($$$ - I didn't doo that one myself) I'm currently running a '99 Burban with the last of the 350's. I think it's around 275K miles right now. It was a North Carolina truck. A bit faded, but rust free. .

That’s right, you’re going to find sick people at hospitals and problems on the Internet. I want to know of these potential problems before spending $40-$50k to get into a new truck. The 4.8. 5.3 and 6.0l engines were all bullet proof engines. I had a 4.8 and beat the piss (worked hard) out of it for 325,000km. They shouldn’t have stopped producing that one either. never owned a 5.3 but they were good before they started designing them to shut down to 4cyls. Big problems with that and still ongoing with the new ones. my 6.0L has been flawless and has also been worked its whole life so far. We got the last year of the 6.0L. I’m afraid if we trade it in, I’ll end up with the known 6.6L engine issues, that by the sounds of it, they still haven’t addressed. And with the 6.6L only being introduced in 2020, it sounds like they still have some work to do on it. I can’t stand ford, dont like the interior or exterior, im sure they’re solid trucks, just don’t like the looks of them.
-
Great, so GM knows about it and won’t fix it, and now they’re building a new engine that’s going to take 3-4yrs more to get all the bugs out of it? Just wonderful…. they should’ve never stopped producing the 6.0L
-
Gm knows about this and has decided to ignore it. They are building new v8 engines in New York for my 2026 and new 2027 redesigned model. Cant wait to hear more about these new v8 engines.

Let me know if you will sell the 2500 private or through dealer.. I'm at 315 on my chevy.. Thanks..Rich..

I have a chum that bought an F350 4wd dually with the 460 big block with flatbed. His numbers are not that far from my 5.9 Cummins (same type) truck. (winter fuel especially) I think he said 14mpg at 80mph going out west and back, and maybe 9 same trip with a trailer? Just a matter of getting the right gears for your app. I am encouraged that there is an option out there besides a clustered up rattler! .
-
Searching for problems on the internet is like going to the hospital looking for sick people. The F250 with the big gas engine is supposed to be pretty solid and actually decent on fuel.
-
I was looking at ram, but they’re having tranny issues. I know a couple guys that bought new and tranny went around 20,000km
-
Seems like GM is having a difficult time with engines as of late. I’d consider a Ram or Ford for sure!
-
Looking at either vehicle inside or outside there is 0 difference. Interior space is exactly the same. I can’t speak to under the hood. I haven’t popped both beside each other to look, but I wouldn’t care anyway. You give up nothing on this model. Normal daily driving the mileage is better, that I can tell you. drive hard, tow, or higher than 100k highway speeds, you aren’t saving anything.

Baylaker started following GMC/Chev 6.6L gas engines
-
I currently have a 2500HD Silverado with the 6.0L gas engine. It’s been flawless and is a very reliable and proven engine. It has 125,000kms on it and still runs like a top. Im considering upgrading to a new truck but the not the 6.6L gas is offered now. I’ve heard of faulty plugs and some of them needing to add oil constantly due to bad rings and seals. just wondering if anyone has one, what your experience is, or if anyone knows that maybe these issues have been resolved for MY25?
