Carm
If that happens our trip at the end of February will be ruined! Hopefully they sort this all out.

I hope they can resolve this before Feb.1st. I honestly don't blame the farmers. Our Government really HAS to solve this issue. We are going to Quebec on the 23rd to the 27th of January. Than we will see what happens in February. Would be brutal for the sledders, but more importantly it would hurt ALL businesses and clubs in Quebec which is a HUGE issue. I'm still with the farmers on this one. We were produce growers for many generations and came to the realization in 2005 that it's not worth it anymore between the government and weather. Thankfully, for all of us, many other farmers are still in it.
02Sled
What the farmers need to do is call Truedeau and say they want to talk about carbon footprint. He will come to them in a heart beat. I'm with the farmers. Where is Chrystia Freeland.... she needs to step up and tell everyone how nice a country Canada is and then fix it. Loopholes need to be addressed. Sad they have to leverage things the way they are headed in order to be heard.

pt3189
Damn good idea. Snowmobilers spend a lot of money during what is a slow economic period. Any taxes not collected from landowners would be offset by sledders.
Big Pete
Here is commentary from FCMQ. https://www.facebook.com/TheIntrepidSnowmobiler/posts/1643770988982941 looks like they are in the same position the OFSC was in with the OLA disputes over Bill 100. The 'Intrepid Snowmobiler' might not have a practical plan B for you, but slomo does! Through Quebec, south to New Hampshire! Website: http://www.pittsburgridgerunners.org/ The Pittsburg area has thousands of acres of undeveloped forest and is known for having the deepest snow, the longest distances between stops and offers a variety or riding. Our trail system is on unplowed logging roads and woods trails that the Pittsburg Ridge Runner groomer drivers transform into smooth, wide, snow covered super highways. We have over 200 miles of well signed and well groomed trails connecting to Maine, Vermont, Canada and all points south in New Hampshire. You can literally ride a different trail everyday for a week and still have more to ride. The variety of riding will keep the experienced rider and beginner happy. The experienced rider will find challenging hill climbing and long distance riding. Plenty of good accomodation, no language barriers, yes, the Canadian dollar is low, but with the prices being charged in Pittsburg and area being quite low verses Quebec prices, it's almost a wash. Visited there last summer - community is totally behind the snowmobiling. Purchase health care. (they also sent some tourism guy packing when he wanted free room and board...but that's another story) Check these conditions! CURRENT TRAIL CONDITIONS & SNOW DEPTH Corridor 5 from the Canadian border to all trails East of Route 3. Excellent Groomed 18+ " Deer Mtn-Trail 141 to all trails West of Route 3. bbakernbay
In 5 years there will be very few trails available south of Highway 17 due to Landowner issues, much of the problem being caused by snowmobilers going off trail.

Freelance riding is what the next generation seems to want. What can you do about it. Maybe once all the trails are gone, they will realize what has happened. Thankfully, for all of us, many other farmers are still in it. I heard dairy is upset in Quebec because of all the loop holes in trade that U.S. Is using to import milk solids and milk back into Canada. Approx 30 percent of dairy market has disappeared in Quebec because of this. When you see cheap chocolate milk in the stores, it is because once you add the chocolate to milk, it is no longer considered milk and comes in tarrif free. Big pizza companies are doing the same thing, making kits in the U.S. And importing with the cheese already on them back into Canada duty free. Milk solids is a huge issue too, U.S. Is importing them to make yogurt and secondary products, like cream and ice cream using products from bse producing cows (hormone has been banned in Canada for like 15 years). Milk solids isn't considered milk under the free trade agreement. Poultry has similar issue's too. Government needs to start enforcing the trade rules and if it as a part milk or chicken product should be subject to tarrif rate quota. I can't see this issue getting solved anytime soon. Been a problem for almost 10 years now and is getting worse as other countries learn of the various loop holes available, instead of paying tarrif rate quota. My cousins are green house growers in Vineland. They are going to sell out soon, since the land is worth 60,000 an acre can't see a future in it, especially if dollar goes back up. They should get carbon credits for dealing oxygen back into atmosphere, but instead paying more for electricity and natural gas.

Milk solids isn't considered milk under the free trade agreement. 65 Years Ago. A little old lady from Wisconsin had worked in and around her family dairy farms since she was old enough to walk, with hours of hard work and little compensation. When canned Carnation Milk became available in grocery stores in the 1940s, she read an advertisement offering $5,000 for the best slogan. The producers wanted a rhyme beginning With 'Carnation Milk is best of all.' She thought to herself, "I know everything there is to know about milk and dairy farms. I can do this!" She sent in her entry, and several weeks later, a black car pulled up in front of her house. A large man got out, knocked on her door and said, "Ma'am,....The president of Carnation milk absolutely LOVED your entry.....So much, in fact, that we are here to award you $1,000 even though we will not be able to use it for our advertisements!" He did, however, have one printed up to hang on his office wall.
