A bit of my trip report from this week!!  All i can say is AWESOME!!  Thanks to al of the clubs in the area that i passed through for all of your work.

First day

Left Kap headed towards Hearst.  We took the A which was amazing.  Went into Mattice and had a coffee at the little general store.  Continued on our way to Hearst via 153 to 159 to165  to the 163 down to the A into Hearst.  Those trails up above Hearst are amazing we did not see one sled up there.  Stopped in Hearst for quick bite and got on our way back to Kap Via A.  We then headed back on the L123 to the L143 into Kap.  What a great day that was!!!!

Day 2

Left Kap headed to Moonbeam Via A trail to L 127 across Remi Lake to the clubhouse for a quick drink and headed off towards smooth rock.  Made it to smooth rock got some fuel and thought we were going to head to Timmins but had a change of heart and went up to the Canyon instead.  Man oh Man was that fun!!!  Got up there took some nice pics got some gas and headed back down.   Road going to the Trailer is bare FYI for anyone headed up there.  Got back to the A  stopped at smoothies for some dinner and headed back to Kap, Another amazing day!!!

Day 3

Left Kap took the A to L143 down to L123 took it back to the A and Hit the L119 To the L125 Now that is a trail everyone shod go on through the tree plantation absolutely amazing(on a side note a pack of wolves had a moose for dinner last night up there).  We did that loop all the way back to the A.  Took the A down to the L 135 took it around to the A and headed back to Kap.

All i can say is WOW!!!  what a trip it was.  Some of the best conditions, a little slippery today but thats ok!!

Thanks to all the volunteers in every district every club!!!

Your first day riding is basically one of my favorite day trips that we do.  I love the big loop over Hearst, and the L123.  I'd do that run every day of the week.

Here is a couple of our last pics from the weekend, It was great meeting the gang Sledjunk, Apexman, Revrnd up at Moonbeam Clubouse and going for a last ride together, Thanks to Denis for making the drive to meet us for lunch, Also met Simmer and his friend and chatted in the parking lot for a bit. On the way way back to Cochrane took the Greenwater Park trail to the lookout, Nice view and lots of off trail riding spots, will go back there again next year. 3450 miles to end my season, Already looking forward to next year.

Planning my first trip to Cochrane for snowmobiling this weekend (Friday – Monday).   Going for one last ride of the year as my riding area out of baysville is done for the year.   My sledding buddy has been there many times before this time myself,  my 19 year old son and his 15 year old are making it a group of four.

Plans are to stay at the Westway Motel and take trips each day out of Cochrane as a base.   Hope the conditions are as good as shared in the post from the past weekend but the trails are starting to look less and less “Green” on the OFSC map and more and more Green in real life

Great ride today!  Rode from Kap to Opasatika on L123 returned on A and L147.  Lunch in Kap and then to Moonbeam via L123, did L129 Loop then back to Kap on A.  Best ride of the season so far.  220 Km for the day.

Here are some pics from the day.

Through town after lunch.

Welcome to the forum Fox, Looks like the weather will be cooling down a bit later in the week, I heard they were grooming this morning the west side of the A trail. The Canyon will be ok other than the short stretch of dirt/road run at the very top. The trail from Smooth Rock falls was getting a little beat up but I am sure they will do their best to groom them. As long as you aren't expecting mid season conditions you will be fine.  Hope this helps. If you are on Facebook keep an eye on their page as they update it very regularly.

After lunch, trails got very soft.

Same section of road section on L129 as shown 2 days previous.  Ugly!

"Mashed potato guy" .... lmfao you're killing me !!!!

Any of the machines having any heat issues with the warm temps ?  I wouldn't think so being as the heat exchangers are almost liquid cooled on both sides .....

No problems for me.  I think Karen's sled was running a little warm, though.  I think apeXMAN and REVRND were OK.

Nice pics. We saw the same moose or what's left of it lol. What a great trail that is.

The top part of the loop reminds me of the portion of TOP A that used to be south of Hwy 11 between Fauquier & Strickland.

Once it warmed up and the snow got softer it ran a lot better and not as hot.

I think mine was running warmer than normal on Sat' afternoon, but the rest of the trip it was fine. Seemed to run cooler on the straight stretches. LOL

Nunz,

Thanks for the welcome message and pointing me in the direction of the facebook page for Cochrane.  You're right the Polar bear Rider's Snowmobile Club has been putting updates on their facebook page a couple times per day.

Call and ask the motel operators or groomer drivers or clubs directly and ask about actual trail conditions.  Might save you a bunch of gas...

Trails here are getting very snirty, worse by the day.  At the moment the winds have turned from the North and it's cooling off, but damage is done. Personally I won't abuse my equipment by riding a mile of asphalt, gravel and mud to get to a trail, so I'm officially done.

While test riding a GTX this afternoon (I don't mind abusing other peoples' equipment though) I took a couple of pics.... Note that all parking lots and access trails are down to dirt or asphalt, once on the back trail behind the Esso to the road / rail crossing it's about 1/3 dirt 2/3 snow.  Road crossings are gravel right to the ditches.  The first 3 km of the A heading West looked ok, but it's the ride to get to them.  Not my style to grind skis and sliders for fun.

I keep checking polar bears FB page and they say some areas are thin it is rideable.

One thing I think will be kind of cool is taking a ferry on a snowmobile ride (ice bridge is out)

even if conditions are less then stellar I'm still going.
