  1. Do you remember the law suit where BRP went after Cat for "stealing" the pyramid chassis ? That seemed to die and then R-motion suspensions had the "Torque Sensing Link" (TSL) that was patented by Kirk Hibbert.
  2. I believe this is done with twin engine propeller aircraft and stern drive boats. The engine is assembled with the pistons turned around so the pin offset is the other way and the camshaft is ground mirror image.
  3. The good thing is that the sleds made the trip from the restaurant/gas in Belleterre to Val d'or without additional gas. The old T-Cat would not do that.
  4. My BIL had a Mach 700 triple without RER, but there was a model that did have it. We were stopped at an intersection one day and when he started his sled to get going, he did it in girlly fashion. Not leaving the seat, he pulled real slow and short. The engine kicked and started and was running backwards and he didn't know it. He revved up but the sled didn't move. He revved up more and I heard the belt spinning around the secondary. He finally realized what had happened and shut it off and re-started it. After that the sled had a vibration from the melt mark in the secondary pulley. Years latter he did the same thing with my Wildcat, only it pulled the recoil backwards and broke the plastic parts inside. The rest of the day was clutch wrap starts and I had a recoil to fix. The lesson here is to pull like a man !
  5. The energy that needs to be stored to start an engine is enormous. The only way to store that with caps is with electrolytic capacitors. In order to keep that charge, they need to be very low leakage or the charge will just dissipate through the internal resistance. And because electrolytic capacitors use a moist borax impregnated paper insulator between the spiral wrapped foil, they don't like the cold or being hot. I am amazed it works at all.
  6. A Woodstock General Hospital worker from Brant County tested positive for the Aardvark Flue after working in the hospital after returning home from Mexico. Looks like everything went wrong in this scenario.
  7. x2 Most I have seen have the handlebar tethered to the cap. In this case, wouldn't a key switch be much more convenient ?
  8. As always when you buy a used sled, tear it all down and change EVERY bearing. Doing this will require the chaincase to come apart so the gremlins in there can be found. Check the clutches out and rebuild of necessary. If there are carburetors, remove, clean and replace. If this is not done, there will be tears the first year on the trails due to corrosion from sitting around so long. This does not even address the potential problems in the engine. Corroded crank bearings, cracked piston skirt, etc. I quit buying used equipment. There is always a reason it's for sale.
  9. Get a coffee or tea at Tim's and then have a Full Load at Gilles in New Liskeard.
  10. If the gas tank is empty with an electric fuel pump in the tank, you risk drying out the pump and them when it runs the first time, the seals in the pump can be destroyed. The pump would them have low fuel pressure when needed the most and the engine would bog. I had this happen once many years ago so now EFI sleds are stored with half a tank of premium fuel so the pump is immersed to stay wet.
  11. We stayed there one night this winter after returning from Quebec on the Goat Path. Heating issues with the room. Very cold breakfast room and the eggs were rubber. The breakfast ladies had their winter coats on. Lights in the breakfast room were blinking badly. Gas just up the sidewalk. Walk two traffic lights to the sports bar.
  12. We ware of the road scratching you probably have to do. Lots of "Follow Road to Trail" with few signs or arrows.
  13. The idea is to make it read accurately, NOT like a Ski-Doo.
  14. I told everyone the solution years ago. If it don't start, it's your problem. Lots of outlets in Hearst.
  15. How much road sratching did you do? It was pittyfull today. Probably need new skis now.
  16. Last winter on the Wolf Loop in Suds, My son was riding my 01 Thundercat. When leaving the lake at Rocky's for gas, the impeller bolt worked loose allowing the impeller to raise off the mechanical seal. All the antifreeze ran out the weep hole on the ground. Payed the young man pumping gas to drive the sled and my son back to Chemmy. Lucky for me, my buddy was heading home so he took the T-Cat and left his Viper for my son to finish the week out. No engine damage because it was seen at the gas stop. New shaft, impeller and mechanical seal and it runs again.
  17. Here is the link to save the search. Read it ALL to the end where you will find the picture of the heater and box it came in. https://ontarioconditions.com/forums/index.php?/topic/16697-yama-cat-viper-7000-cold-starting-issues/&tab=comments#comment-224509
  18. Why don't you install the Kat's heaters on the bottom oil pan and the front of the block like I have detailed under the Tech area of this forum. I have seen so many people tearing apart Vectors, Vipers, and Side Winders because they are to lazy or too cheap to install $50 worth of heating pads and carry a 3 meter extension cord.
  19. The Super 8 is where we always stay. No problem with the parking lot and Casey's is right there. Our motel booker had a brain fart and I did not catch it. He never screws up but maybe getting old.
  20. Comfort Inn on the east side of Timmins access is OK. Go over the bridge at the Bon Air and follow the trail behind the businesses. You go behind the Esso station, cross a side street then go behind the Super 8. Keep going behind the car dealer lot across from the Comfort Inn. Wait and wait and wait until you get the chance to scratch across 4 bare lanes of 101 to the Comfort Inn. You have to drag your luggage in the front door,.
  21. Did L143 Friday Feb. 14th from Comfort Inn in Timmins to Auld Reekie. on the trail for 3 hrs. for 155 Km. Drove in to Auld Reekie and 12:30 PM for lunch. It was -28c in Timmins when we left. Arrived at the Econo Lodge in New Liskear at 5:30 PM. We found the Econo Lodge to be really econo in fixture, fittings, and room heating. The Super 8 in Kirkland Lake was much like Denis described it. Breakfast eggs were like rubber. The eating area was so cold the cooking ladies wore their winter coats. Walked down Government Road two traffic lights to the Sports Bar for supper in cold wind and snow. Outside the Super 8, we found some young New Canadians had cut across the parking area from Tim's to the Super 8 and had high centered on some curbs under the snow with their BMW. The front drive wheels had 6" of clearance to the pavement and they expected us to push them off while a couple sat in the car. They did not have boots nor did they have winter coats and hats. I asked where they were from and got Toronto. All I could think was these people are going to die in Kirkland Lake. Dave K, I saw you buddy Perry along with a buddy from Atwood signed the book at Auld Reekie on Thursday 13 th. BP
  22. Most mirrors work until muffs go on the handlebars. Then the view is usually blocked. I have mirrors on the inside of my windshield that work good until the muffs go on. So I now have 4 on my sled.
  23. So what was his last minute mirrors that seemed to pass ? I have put a pair of handlebar mounted motorcycle mirrors on two sleds to try out to see how they work. One pair is bent farther to be lower and wider. I will see if they pass.
