  1. it will take a few more weeks to be able to safely stake wawa lake, hawk lake, and the magpie, for liability reasons. we rode across dog lake last year on new years day, (a little slushy). we also ran the magpie, and hawk lake jan 3rd. they are packing, grooming the trails, way ahead of last year. they should have a pretty good handle on it, for christmas, and new years weeks. we are going up next friday for THREE WEEKS! yeah buddy!!! Ski
  2. thread title, says it all... with no link to Hornepayne, you do not have the original Superior, Snow Challenge Loop.... wawa, dubreuilville, hornepayne, manitouwadge, marathon, white river, back to wawa. Ski
  3. the motel is across from where the motor lodge was. i remember when the motor lodge owner (Rob i believe) just locked the doors and left town, no warning. i also remember when town wasnt paying attention to how the auger plowed the street, and the current motel building, and an apartment building, lost most (or all) of it's windows, when the subsequent roost from the blower, blew out all that was glass, on the roadside of the building. Ski
  4. they have the motel open again, last i heard. turner's is open, and sled north vacation home rentals (dan and carole) have two houses for rent as well. good people! Ski
  5. heard hwy 17 was closed for 27 hours, from maureen at the NL motel, in wawa. also heard wawa is out grooming, and made it to the big bear, in Hawk Junction. small regional loops will be open at christmas it looks like. Ski
  6. i applaud them, and would love to help but, we are a long way from them, too. best we can do is support them, and promise to come to ride, if it happens. there are big hurdles to jump, re-linking hornepayne to mani (90 MILES), for the superior loop challenge to re-open. also fuel will be an issue trying to run from longlac to hornepayne (and vise versa), if there is no fuel at hillsport. you would have to run into mani, fuel up, then back track to hillsport, hornepayne. they mention caramat but, i dont believe there is fuel there. (i could be wrong). hooking to marathon is the first baby step but, again, you are making a one way trail, and not a loop. the nice thing is, there are A LOT of new logging roads in place to make trails, IF THEY ARE NOT HAULING on them in the winter. first step will be getting the locals on board, then the volunteer staff, then the touring riders. love the area, love the people, hoping this takes off and resurrects the region. 7. no straps and or bars= multiple 600 lb missles flying at you and other vehicles in a fast stop, crash, or rollover, ditch dive. YES, IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU! i want to know, if i do flip the trailer, i will open the door and see my sleds still secured. think how you would feel if one or more of your sleds shot out of the truck, trailer and caused physical damage or death to someone you know, or other passers by. Ski
  8. 2018 arctic cat XF High Country. i have installed the polaris gripper skis from the pro rmk/sks sleds. it is a common addition to the cat front end. they are reasonably priced, and readily available, and work well, on and off trail. the theory is, with the weight removal mods i have done on the sled, i lightened the right side up enough to where, it does not transfer enough pressure to the rt ski keel... which affects turning to the left as the right (outer) ski, on left turns, pushes over the snow, and does not bite for turning. what sled was your issue, what did they do to fix it? i am guessing with you... you just replaced the sled. just funnin with ya Nunz! Ski
  9. thanks Fabio! they dont have the semi extreme in stock, at this time. funny thing with my new sled, will turn to the right, like nobody's business. wont turn left to save it's life. up and down on ski shock pressures, up and down on limiter strap holes, up and down on rear skid front shock preload, studboy shaper carbides etc... same result. was going to just put one of these on the right ski, and test it. expensive test, for sure. Ski
  10. my guess is dan will have another one of those posts, and videos in the next 4-6 weeks. Ski
  11. where are you guys getting these? looking for a set for polaris gripper skis, for their pro mountain ski. Ski
  12. last year our first ride was dec 8th. break in ride for my new sled. had good riding for christmas and new years. shooting for the same this year. last day of work will be dec 20, next day back will be jan 14, 2020. taking 3 weeks off at the holidays this year. Ski
  13. J&T is the go to in tri-hub axle replacements on the cats. Ski
  14. EXACTLY! BANDWIDTH WASTE! lmao! Ski
  15. FAKE NEWS! first snow was the previous week on thursday. and now back to your regularly scheduled threadjacking. Ski
  16. mike was a great asset, and awesome groomer. was sad to hear of his passing. if i remember correctly, he had some health issues, and stepped away from the on the ground workings of the club. can still remember how tall he was. he made the tucker look small. mountain of a man. Ski
  17. someone on here had the same issue with numbers val tag etc and the quebec police, last season. they sent a letter to the quebec snowmobile tourist association (or somewhere). they received a printed letter on letterhead stating, if it was legal in ontario (plates, permits, val tags), it was legal in quebec. the letter went on to read the police were notified and training had taken place but, a reminder may have been needed. food for thought, find that post, print the letter, and carry it with you. Ski
  18. gang, Luc, (the groomer guy, in Dubreuilville) just had his second surgery in less than a year, this time to replace his knee. if you have contact info for him on facebook, or personal contact info, or want to share a get well wish here, or all 3, please do so. it means a lot when you are rehabbing physical ailments, to have support from those outside your initial family. (believe me, i know it.) get well Luc! Ski
  19. could still be riding in Dubreuilvile, fresh this morning. Ski
  20. aubrey falls trading has opened, closed several times in the last several years. now black creek outfitters. tough row to hoe. remote area with LOTS OF DOWN TIME. a few weeks of sledding, a few weeks of hunting, a few weeks of fishing clients... the rest is up keep, and paying overhead. if you were buying it as a living place, and make a bit of money with gas and lodging and didnt mind the service hours or return on time and investment... it MIGHT be worth it. it sucks for those needing services to ride sleds atvs ect... in the area because without them, no more elliot lake to halfway, without alot of fuel, or a HUGE DETOUR toward the soo, heyden, goulais river for fuel before treking north toward wawa. with the troubles saw this year, it wouldnt surprise me if halfway haven closes in winter again. lots of hurdles are going to pop up in district 13 this year. LOTS! ski
  21. togwotee has close to 40" Ox. closer than island park, and no dealing with the west Yellowstone tourists. Ski
  22. rode the new sled out Dub's north trail. Lynne and I were first sled tracks on trail. (there were a few tracked atv tracks, close to town). and the road portion had old truck tracks on it past the RR crossing at km 17. rode out to the old airport curve (km 30), and back. round trip we put on 40 miles. the sled has a hard rev limit set for the first 18 minutes, doesnt allow for anything over 6400 rpm's, and pours the fuel and oil to her as well. after 7.5 miles (putting around, up and down on the throttle), no more rev limit, OFF WE GO!!! THE NEW SLED IS AWESOME! so smooth, very little vibration in bars, feet. alot better than our 2009 m8's. BUT, and its a BIG BUT.... the 2.5" windshield makes the sled look tough but, it is ccccccold as hell and then some. didnt take the time to install my hand guards so, my hands were cold too. LOL! had to switch with the wife and ride the older sled with a windshield and functioning warmers, a time or maybe two... LOL! was a good first ride. we need more snow but, the cold weather the last 4-6 weeks really froze everything up. we even rode across the magpie, in town. no grooming yet, we need more snow. should be a great season. we will be back up dec 21- jan7th. Ski
  23. trails should be ok but, towns after this warm up, may be tough for food, fuel, lodging. might have to ride some bare pavement and dirt. spring conditions are a commin. Ski https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/14-day-weather-trend/ontario/sault-ste-marie
  24. add the sportsman (right across from the Bristol), to the no longer open list. the last trip up we were in town, huge snow banks, and no fresh plowing in the lot. looks like it went bye bye or seasonal only as well. tough row to hoe up there. Ski
