  1. I just came home yesterday from Abitibi Quebec. In my opinion snow levels seem about the same everywhere throughout Ontario and eastern Quebec. We had dinner in downtown North bay and I honestly think there is more snow in Orangeville. I wouldn’t consider riding anywhere until we get cold and snow.

  2. Harold and Marion. Our daughter worked summers for them during high school, mid 90's. It had sat empty during the 60's and re-opened early 70's, purchased by a group of investors from Woodstock (and/or area). Only one I remember was Barney the Chiropractor). Al (former Woodstock Cop) and Dianne Symons ran it until Harold took over in the 80's. Al, along with Big Bob Smith who owned Edgewater, established the '300 series' trail system, and the 'Knights of Armour Snowmobile and Ski Club'. I was at the inaugural meeting at the Lodge. Groomed trails, what a concept! Believe that was about '72. Sad to see the property go downhill like it has. Main building is prolly not worth saving. Half the rental units burnt down. Just sad.

  3. Today, we pulled the plug on the Northern Corridor trip. Too far to drive to SRF or Kap for a couple of days sledding, especially for 2 guys who have ridden those trails more than we can remember. If the original group of 4 were going, we likely would have made the effort. Hoping winter comes back with a vengeance in the near future.

  4. That was my aunt and uncle’s place. From ‘75 until oh god, idk, 2009 or something. Dale was the cook and they only ever had like one or two people working. It was likely Dale who served you lol. I wish someone would buy that and fix it up into the lodge again. They sold it and some other people took it over, then I guess was sold and turned into a wellness retreat, now is trashed.

  5. Almaguin just shut their trails down north of Kearney. Highland rovers are still open, but I can almost guarantee they will be fairly thin, flat, but thin.

  15. Yes, Scott. We just got off the phone. We decided to shyte can the original 4- day ride, and decide tomorrow whether to can the whole idea. If we go, we will be following Mark's advice and stage out of S-R Falls or Kap. We would then sled 2-3 days and drive home. We have done that twice before and had very good luck getting a decent ride in when Cochrane was pooched. It would be nice to hear from some weekend riders what their experience was in the Kap to Hearst area. I refuse to let this defeat me as a sledder, but I have to admit, this winter (or lack thereof) is starting to wear thin on this grumpy old man.

  16. I've got a room booked for Cochrane this week Jan 30- Feb 3 but with conditions deteriorating and more warm weather forecast for the week again, I think I'm going to cancel the room and try again in a week or two. Sucks cause I haven't been out yet this year but no point travelling all that way to fight poor conditions and more warm weather.
