Cant keep them off the trails now, if this comes to fruition, they will be everywhere during snow season, "I bought my permit, I'm going to use the trail". That will be enough for me to get out altogether from snowmobiling in Ontario. Ski
Two problems here.
1. Many of the ATV clubs do not want to be part of a provincially run system, ie OFATV.. After the shitstorm that the OFSC is now producing, I highly doubt that would encourage a "buy in" to a province wide "one permit" system.
2. Snowmobiles have to follow the MSVA(Motorized Snow Vehicles Act), which legislates that an OFSC trail permit must be purchased and displayed to ride on OFSC Prescribed Trails, etc..
ATVs do not have any kind of provincial legislation that mandates their operation. There are municipal/county bylaws they must follow and permits are required for regional trails on private property. No permit required for Crown Land.
Unless new legislation is coming forward regarding ATVs, this "one permit" idea will be a non-starter IMO.
However, it is still a potential "Holy F@ck" situation if it gains traction.
