  1. the hardest part about goggle open helmet is, getting the goggle to match fit your face, and the helmet eye opening. you will have a bunch of trial and error here. If you dont get it right you will have leaks, frosting, fogging, too much wind inside the goggle. currently we run 100% Racecraft goggles with dual pane vented lenses. they also make a snow goggle but, I dont like how thick the foam is, as it causes wind, frosting issues for me... Lynne LOVES the thicker foam so... again, lots of personal preference. running these, and the klim arctic (cold weather), and klim glacier (warm weather) balaclava's, we have zero fogging issues. the only issue you could have is in freezing rain, and then even heated shields and goggles, are all going to have some sort of issue. I have been running an mx style helmet since 2001. i will plug all the vent holes on the helmet, with silicone, or plugs if the helmet comes with a "cold weather kit". I have run just about every helmet mfgr from sled specific to mx only. bell, hjc, fly, 509, troy lee designs, 6D. My favorite helmet is the troy lee helmets, they just fit well for me. the 6D is the new "concussion protecting" style of internal protection. they are heavier, and have way too much venting for any cold, for me. I like the brain protection idea though. (fxr has a 6d made selection on their available helmet list). one thing I can tell you is, if you get a MIPS, or 6d, fly, type brain protection lid... buy the next size up. if you buy your normal size, they will be tight, to way too tight, and you might not be happy with your purchase, especially wearing a balaclava. My guess is, the mfgr's didnt increase the helmet size, to equip the helmets with the extra protection added by the concussion aids. i like having a few pairs of goggles on the sled, in the goggle warmer, or in the back pack, for changing light conditions, and if they get snow loaded from powder riding. My goto color is a blue lens, works well on cloudy days, as well as moderately sunny days. i carry a mirrored dark tinted lensed goggle for bluebird days. and I carry a clear lensed goggle for the the night ride home. Personally, I am not a fan of 509 gear. to me, it is a lot of marketing and hype, and you can get better performance for less money with other brand name gear. also, personally... not a fan of any open chin, modular set ups. it just isnt for me or my riding style, and I am not going to take a chance if a really need it, that the chin bar latch fails, leaving my face, chin, eyes open to catastrophic damage. In the end, it is work works for you, your face/head shape, budget, and needs/wants. good luck! Ski
  2. in reality they (ofsc) are doing this to avoid setting a precedent this early, by not closing the trails now. knowing if the lock downs & state of emergency rules dont lighten up... they may have no grounds to open back up. then when they cant open up, the ofsc will owe all those that bought permits, discounts on next seasons permits, which more than likely, the organization cant afford. which could effectively end the ofsc, and its role in organized sledding in Ontario, due to financial failure. all we can hope is the light at the end of the tunnel isnt a train. good luck to us all. 3. we use the foam covers for the boom mic's, and either a breath box, or the klim arctic/glacier balaclava's, or both. never an issue with mic's getting wet. now, if they take an impact, or get really dusty on the dirt bike, they will fail. i have had to buy several boom kits which are about 70-80 usd each. but, better than replacing the whole unit at over 200 usd ea. 4. wow, that is funny, we have had the sena 20S for several years. for a couple, they work awesome. pairing them to more than 2 people kinda is a pain and sux. i like them for the music ability. we have used them on sleds, street bikes, dirt bikes. i like to listen to music, when racing bikes, keeps my mind off my breathing, and muscle fatigue. the sena 30 were the "problem child", supposedly the 50 was to fix all the 30 issues. like i said, we prefer the 20S. 5. that is robin's doughnuts. the subway is new, very new! Ski
  6. @Ox, from what the google machine says., the Chimo name, word, means: are you friendly, or friend, in Inuktitut language of northern Canada, also used in some parts of Southern Ontario and Western Canada. if I remember, many motels, resto's had this on their signs. I think the first time we went to Dubreuilville (1997-1998ish) the resturant had this on their sign, and on their ads. I wouldnt doubt, that White River, had a similar sign on a motel, and or resto too. maybe that is what you are referring too? Ski
  7. yep, playing, skipping water, went tail down, nose up 12 oclock. when that happens instinct takes over, you let off. couldnt catch it in time, to keep momentum. threw helmet, gloves to the ice to keep dry, rode the sled "down", not knowing how deep it was. thankfully it was only 4.5-5feet deep, and i am 6 feet tall. when i got off the sled, it raised up. i got in, dragged it to a shallower area, pulled it out by myself, with the wife's help. I was in the water 30-40 minutes on and off. i was cold as hell. towed sled back to the hotel, got in the hot tub, sled loaded into the trailer. drove to a friends house an hour later, took off the hood, pulled plugs, rolled sled upside down, pulled it over until water stopped coming out. put the plugs back in, set the choke, started first pull. gotta love yamaha triples (01 SRX). I drained fuel, oil, chaincase, took seat off (no real way to dry that out, they just never doo). decided it was a high mileage unit anyway, sold it on TY being totally upfront, what happened, and priced accordingly. a member there from new hampshire called me, asked a bunch of questions, said, "if it is as clean as you say, i will take it, i will be there saturday morning." that next saturday, he was there, when i woke up, he drove all night friday, to get to me. he told me "i ride jet ski's, we sink them at least once a day, i do the same thing you did, and dry it out, and keep riding." he never even tried to talk me down on price, due to the condition of the sled, prior to the sinking. he emailed me about 18 months later saying, he dried out the headlamp, bought a new (used) seat, and was still riding it. LOL! the things we do when young and dumb. miracle i survived, as long as i have. but, to be old and wise, you must be young and foolish. Ski

  11. moot point, Dub doesnt have enough snow to groom, open the d108a, south d,f trail, or west d trail anyway. Ski
  12. so, if lock downs work, why dont they start immediately, v.s giving everyone another 5 days to spread it, or contract it, to spread it at home later? this is what drives me nuts... the rules/changes, that makes sense, and then the just plain senseless rules. just kicking that can down the road... Ski
  13. aren't they banning or discouraging non essential travel, and traveling out of "infected areas" to less, or not infected areas? i also thought they banned meetings from different households? it boils down to, lock downs do not stop the virus, they just slow the inevitable. we just all need to be safe, and use precautions. Ski
  14. not unless they close the entire system for the rest of the year, before mid feb. Ski
  15. well, this just happened! https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/snowmobiles-covid-19-pandemic-colour-zones-health-ofsc-1.5847775?fbclid=IwAR311gmceckWLMstfbQVnBbacGixuzrK1wsgffqKeRpIfeGp46D8wTEIRuQ Ski

  17. no spot to watch your travels? asking for a friend! Ski
  18. been doing the weather watching, pick a good time and just GO for at least the last 15 years. we usually pick a window around these events, christmas-new years, *** mid jan for MLK day, *** mid feb for Vday/presidents day/family day, ***st pattys area of march, ***1st 3 weeks of april... then we SIT AND WATCH, pick the best 3-7 days, and GO. the group knows, i will go early, or later if the weather dictates, and will pull the plug if travel time is littered with HUGE STORMS, for driving days, or it is -30 or less at night, and doesnt get above +5 Fara... why burn your vacation, being miserable? the last 5-6 years or so, with the house in Dub, we have been taking the whole week after the time change off. gives us longer days, usually warmer weather, and a week to get used to the time change v.s, changing the clocks, and having to get up early for work immediately. Ski
  19. this is great news. Hopefully those with loud cans, and terrible judgement, dont ruin it for the rest of the sledding population. Ski
  20. Meh, this one is better... gets really good at 30 seconds. turn up your video quality, to get a better view. Ski
