This will be the season I make a decision about our trail sleds. Life is busy enough that trips and backpacking are difficult if not impossible to plan. So if it's another bummer year the 3 trail sleds will go up for sale and I'll stick to the ice/bush sled. Becomes hard to justify the cost, insurance, passes, and depreciation (according to my wife ). And honestly, I get tired of maintaining and storing things that rarely get used

Well, while I was rifling through some of the stuff I have around ( see pic in last page ) - I did come across the bill for my 2004 Pro-X 600,

$9,475.00 pre-tax/trade-in value

I'm out of the loop on today's pricing - but I think it's gone up a bit over the 11 years?

Sleds have gone up no doubt but they have also got better and more realible, with less wrenching then those days.
Todays sleds are amazing and technology the manufactures put into them, is very good.
It's weather and cost of living and fact new Canadians can't afford a snowmobile, that's hurting the sport.
New 25,000 k sleds are a tough pill to swallow especially when a family needs two to have fun.
I said to myself, I quit when all my friends do.

Guess what all my friends are out and have been looking for another sled, so they can ride my old one and we can do a trip or two still 😎.  This is what real sled heads do to keep sport going.

That seems expensive compared to today's prices.

A comparable model now would be $20k? Double the money?

In my business, we are triple the price from 20 years ago. Wages are triple. And real estate is 4x the price.

Wow and farm gate chicken price is basically same as 15 years ago but costs in store have sky rocketed 😡. No wonder everyone upset over retail food prices.
I know you aren't Pocketing that money either, just costs of everything gone nuts to point I don't want to build anything anymore. Too many surprises and extra costs.
I pay kid 21 an hour and that's not enough to keep him, with how dirty work is. Bumped it to 25 for next one 😎. He was 17 was best one I had, quit over picking up mortalities 🤣
I bet you get your own challenges with employees too 😎

The cost of the sport is certainly getting out of hand as is the cost of living. I still have a couple guys to ride with, but they get out less and less it seems. The last of the old crew that have been riding together since the 80's.

One thing we all agree on is the fact that we had way more fun back in the day and it was much more affordable.

I think we put more hours than miles on back then, consumed way to much alcohol and tested the limits of our wives patience.

Generally, the worst to happen would be a hole in a piston. Still limp home.

$39.95 for a piston, ring, gasket set and crank seal for what ever side popped, usually a quick hone, vacuum out the case and back on the trail the next night.

Good times👍

For sure, just about everything has changed and costs are out of hand at every turn. The in-consistent weather puts a bigger emphasis on the costs. If the snow is great and winters are cold, I would never take a second to look at the costs, having fun is number 1.

i was telling my son how grandpa and I would sled down the lake on a Sunday morning to get breakfast, the “Hungryman”, it was $7.00 for bacon, 3 eggs, 3 sausages, toast and hash browns!

Made to order, cooked the way you want it and served up by a waitress that was always the nicest, slightly over weight women in town. lol

When I was a wee lad, a "two four" was $3.60. I used to stop at the gas station for gas at 62 cents a gallon and a pack of smokes for 62 cents. Gas wars frequently seen gas for under 20 cents a gallon. Break out the jerry cans.

As long as I can still launch the boat and squeeze the flipper, I'll be payin up.:headbang:
