revrnd
Weather permitting I'm heading up to Eganville for Sunday's races (the 16th). I'll probably spend a couple of nights in Pembroke & do some riding in the area. Other than being on TOP B for RAP tours, I haven't ridden that way before.
revrnd
I know that 127 runs along Black Bay Road west of TOP A as it approaches Petawawa. Has anyone ridden thru there recently? Just wondering what the snow cover is like. I'll probably ride south towards Foresters Falls & Renfrew on Mon' & do a loop towards Petawawa before loading up & heading home. irREVerent
The south end of 127 is very nice... recently groomed. We did some of those loops (124, 125, 127) this morning...nice tight and twisty bush trails with lots of snow and almost no traffic.

Have fun trails usually very good in area. Eganville trails south of pembroke are usually great. There is a known loop that Is on map. Takes you south to eganville, over to golden lake for lunch then you can loop back north side and back to pembroke. Was around 220 km’s last time I did it.

Be forewarned...the signage was very poor in several spots.
revrnd
Good afternoon @ the races in Eganville Wahl Bros' racers Olson & Stephenson were 1 2 for the Bonnechere Cup. Sabrina Blanchette, Chester Duval's granddaughter (oval racing fans will know who he is) took 3rd. Several rigs parked @ the south side of the lot @ the Irving truck stop. Lots of sleds parked for the restaurant there. Checked in @ the HIX. Lots of parking for rigs there. You cant ride to the door, but you can get close. Talked to a family of 4 from Harrisburg PA that checked in after me. Staging to do the RAP.

Looking down river from B101Q There is an overhead sign in the distance Looking up the Ottawa River A couple from Shawville on their way to Pembroke Turned around in Quebec Upriver

revrnd
Turnoff to Eganville Looking east @ TOP A/B L119 intersection Looking west towards Pembroke Just off TOP A/B on L122 There is a 'lane' for sled parking. A few sleds arrived after I finished up for the day.
revrnd
Pole mill yard between Pembroke & Pet' I don't know how sledjunk made it thru w/ all his electronic gear? TOP A now uses the old CPR bridge. Before the sled trail was built in the late 90s/early 2000s, getting thru Pet' on a RAP tour was a major PITA (BTDT). Pole mill building. Poles would either be dumped directly onto the ground or taken along the conveyor & then dumped (sorting by length?) East of Pembroke sitting on the old CPR railbed where the CN line passed over. I'm not sure if the plan is to groom the CPR railbed into town or not. L120 just dumps sledders onto the side of Pembroke Street beside a Tim Hortons. Up to Pet' & did some local trails today. 90 klicks. Saw 3 groups & some pairs running w/ saddle bags on TOP A & B. Snowing still. It was heavy @ times. irREVerent, I agree w/ you on the signage....
revrnd
Checking Google Earth & from what I could see driving thru Eganville, it looks like about 700 feet of distance between the Pine Tree Motel & B101A. That being said, I'd only recommend the motel as a last resort (sled break down nearby). If touring in that area I'd suggest heading for Deacon, Pembroke/Pet' of Barry's Bay. Round trip to Deep River yesterday for lunch, so we passed Shaw's pole mill twice. (BTW- Don't even think about accessing 127 from Top A, as RS stated elsewhere. Nasty pavement.) One of our group owns South River Planing Mill, so he was 'spaining the pole operation. Poles sorted for length and grade (marked on ends, eg: 60/1, 60/2 etc). Stacked to dry and probably shipped to Guelph for pressure treat. 2

Good fast food and I really like nice wide, twisty trails north of sand lake. Pembroke was low on snow when I was there, but 15 mins out of town snow cover was great. Seems to really drop as you go down in elvation.

When we did the RAP tour in '13, the TOP trails hadn't been moved totally to the railbeds, so the trail was still south of the mill. The yard was only partially visible. Yes, the 127 didn't look good. Looking unless it was snowing hard & the road was snow covered I'd avoid it as it's almost 5 klicks of road running. When the snow was really coming down yesterday, it reminded me of our day thru there in '13. Snowed from Spectacle Lake to Deux Rivieres. 2 hours ago, Strong Farmer said: I stopped in for lunch at sands on golden lake, last year. Seems to really drop as you go down in elvation. I've driven thru the Killaloe/Wilno area mid-Feb' & the snow can be thin. Conditions are really good up there. Even the exposed railbeds passing thru fields had more than enough snow on them. Sometimes the snow gets blown off them. Now for my peeve (I'll be messaging the District), "Update the maps on your mapboards!" The laminated maps are from 2016, prior to the TOP trails being relocated. The current trails are nowhere near where the maps show. Thankfully the A & B trails are well signed. I agree w/ irREVerent that the signage in the Beachburg & Westmeath areas leaves something to be desired. I was only planning to riding TOP B to the B100Q junction. Never saw it. Followed a couple of TOP B signs north to where TOP B used to end & was on my way to Westmeath. The ITG shows this as being #106. I also found #106 when I turned off TOP A to get fuel in Renfrew. How can you possibly have 2 disconnected trails w/ the same number? Is the B100Q permanently closed? W/ the much safer access via B101Q, I can't see the need for an ice crossing. The treeline across the river at Pembroke disappeared several years ago. Finally, I checked the FCMQ 'Interactive Trail Map' & there didn't appear to be a trail to connect w/ east of La Passe. I'm guessing it was road running to connect w/ TQ43? Also riding 123 west of town, I never saw where I went to riding 122. Looking @ the ITG afterwards I saw that had I gone to the Timberline clubhouse I would've been on 121. No signage to show this. I had planned on doing a 'figure 8' to cover those trails as shown on the current D6 map. Not sure if this affects sledders or not but the MacEwen in Killaloe on Hwy 60 near the OPP detachment is gone.

Looking unless it was snowing hard & the road was snow covered I'd avoid it as it's almost 5 klicks of road running. Is there a sure-fire way to tell a carbide killer from a roadside fun-run? I have seen both, one a disgusting sled torture, and one a delight, 10 feet off the road. Both look the same on the ITG. Social media helps here, but shouldn't the ITG be a source of credible info? It would really help with trip planning, especially as Spring (ugh) draws near.

A foot of fresh snow made the road running south of A101D, quite pleasant. Other wise it would've probably been horrible or the big detour to the west.
