Canuck
We rode up to Skead, Ontario on Friday (thanks for the suggestion, Sled Ed). Parked at Skead community centre, crossed the lake, gas at Rocky's and stayed at Gowganda Lake Lodge. Saturday was a stellar day - mint trails to Kirkland Lake. Sunday - returned to trailer in Skead. Just wanted to get the word out that the trails up north are mint. Only had the 3 days so couldn't go further north. There was no need to. What a great time at Gowganda Lake Lodge. slomo
Nice post Canuck - used to camp at the mouth of the river into the lake - nice area in the summer as well.
Canuck
Thanks, Slomo. Next year's resolution will be to travel with an actual 'camera' (like I used to). The Blackberry is okay, but it can't handle shade as well as the dedicated camera. I've also decided to store images with Google Picasa. Not sure what others are doing (Flickr, hard drive, etc) but Picasa works for me.

Canuck
Also a awesome place in the summer , riding quads there is as good as it gets Good point. Ron mentioned that if you bring up a quad, he can direct you to remote lakes where he stores fishing boats. Great fishing, I'd imagine.

If you're shopping, I have been using the Canon ELPH 115 IS - decent pictures from a camera that will fit in your shirt pocket - easy fit in a sled jacket. Batteries last quite a long time in very cold weather. I picked up a couple of aftermarket batteries at Future Shop for 1/4 of the price of the Canon and have more that enough for a good rotation. Canuck
I just saw Akron's post re: starting a trip in the Sudbury area at the end of January (can't do it - but joining him at the end of Feb), and it made me think of Skead (more importantly, Wanapitei Lake, Rocky's, northern river). Rocky's posted this oninous update on FB - January 11/16 - The lake is still wide open so we'll keep the hours limited for now. Any updates on the northern Sudbury area greatly appreciated. Makes sense to start a separate thread, in that region, if when trails firm up.
