  1. Not making excuses, but i don't think OFSC knew until the end of October. They then had to re-write the agreements taking out a section of wording, and send them to the clubs Sometime late November. That gave the local clubs Basically a month to try and get the new agreements signed off. Of course, Christmas, new Years etc. People on holidays etc. These bigger companies & municipalities had to get the new agreements checked and due diligence done on them before signing, if they didn't like the wording, or that the old clause was taken out, they did not sign the new one. (CP rail) I don't think its right that the clubs and Volunteers are taking the $hit for it. I think if OFSC said something in November that at least there were trails at risk of not opening and a to the point reasoning, it would of saved a lot of crap slinging. https://www.facebook.com/groups/796637134186716/
  2. Thanks for the post. I still find it odd they waited this long just to say that, and why they couldn't post something to the same effect much earlier.
  3. X2 The reason(s) of why this happened is out there. I literally just found out an hour ago. I think a lot of mis-information and rumors could have been avoided if the information was available sooner.
  4. So a few of us use to ride our sleds on the sidewalks to get to the bar... Thought the town folk would be over that by now, its been 20 years.. LOL (kidding)
  5. Wish I knew more, I am staying positive. I heard Ottawa area was able to get some sort of deal in place but i do not know the details unfortunately. Club meeting tonight so hope to be able to attend, not sure if Sudbury has made any progress.
  6. Far as I know: - Removal was done to prevent any confusion i.e. people riding the red portion of trail. By removing it, there should be no confusion. - The ones that are removed, my opinion is they will not open this year, unless an agreement is made very soon. - Last I have been told that ofsc says it is up to clubs and districts to have land use agreements in place and signed off. There are some Pi$$ed off people that started a FB page trying to get answers down south from OFSC, but they haven't gotten anywhere so far.
  7. And now... The other side of the story.... Hi All , i have this update from a very well connected friend of mine that this story has another side. please read below. Steve Hutton UPDATE : I knew there was something wrong with this whole story, so the TRUTH is the person who posted this story was traveling on the wrong side of the trail going way too fast head on into a guy who had his nephew sitting in front of him. He literally stood up and put his arm up to protect the child in front of him which caused the bruising in this photo. This gent is still shook up about the whole incident, now who ya gonna believe two hot dogs ripping the trail apart or a guy with a kid in front of him. There are always 3 sides to every story, his side, your side and the truth stuck in the middle, Im sure BOTH parties are not telling the whole truth but the actual truth is we dont have a bunch of Mad Maxes running around our trail systems! Feel free to copy paste this entire post!
  8. We can only hope they "graze" the wrong person, and that person turns around and hunts them down...
  9. Being local, I am very surprised it is not barricaded on both ends. There would be no way around the barricades because the sides are a good 60' or more drop. I too, heard people were getting a ticket if they cross the CP lines, &170.00 or so?
  10. Sheesh, there are a lot of hazards this year, some trails are just wide enough with no room for error because of all the trees that were cut off the trail. I told the wife yesterday before we went on our ride to be super cautious.
  11. About 20cm so far outside of Sudbury. Awesome riding today on fresh snow! A lot of places needed this snow to get more trails open.
  12. Confirmed today that as Soup said above, the restaurant is open, same great food and entertainment! There had to be 20 sleds there when the wife and I pulled up. Great to see! I will edit my original post when I get to a computer.
  13. Lots of trails going green in the area. I am a bit shocked at how many are disappearing and broken links. ouch. what should be 18km is now a 57km detour to Grandma's house, Kids wont make it that far.
  14. Would this affect the Entire D rail bed from say Skead to Field?
  15. A pic of a wet area on a small portion of D trail headed toward Kukagami. This was our first time through because of the trees that were down this past Saturday. We laid branches down, then packed with snow to harden up. Just giving an example of the condition of how some of the smaller side trails are. (The water is what is supposed to be the middle of the trail) The more travelled trails are in much better shape and im sure will really start to open up in the next week.
  16. hopefully in the next week or so. There are some smaller side trails that are going to take a while longer this year. swamps in the bush still not completely frozen, trees and other hazards as well. We could also use more cold and about 20cm of snow. I think some of the bigger main trails will open in the next week hopefully. Below was posted 4hrs ago. Nickel Belt Snow Spirits Snowmobile Club - District 12 4 hrs · We get that everyone is anxious to get out and ride. And you’re frustrated that the trails aren’t open yet. But we ask that you please be patient. Everyone is working diligently to try and get the trails open as soon as possible, and to make sure they are SAFE!!! This has been a trying year, one unlike any other!! Between the storm that took down so many trees and caused so much work for ALL of our clubs, trails being washed out, and our weather going from -22 to +5, it’s been one of the most difficult years. So we ask again, please be patient. We are working as hard as we can to get our trails open SAFELY as soon as possible! Ty
  17. Yes, a few trees...LOL There was a good crew of about 8 of us. Didn't make it to where we wanted, but getting close. Was the clubs second attempt, the third one should be success! (I hope..)
  18. We had to reluctantly move our sleds on Saturday (closed trail) so that people out riding could go around us in the opposite direction.. the only good thing is we thought since they got through, there must not be as many trees down in the direction we were going...
  19. Not sure what happened. It's part of a trail the club I volunteer for does. The trail was packed, etc but was not open yet. I do not know if it would of made a difference being open or not. Just please be careful on the trails. 7-8 of us were cutting more trees off trails all day Saturday. With the amount of trees on the sides of trails, there are a lot of hazards just off the groomed portion of some areas. https://www.sudbury.com/police/sudbury-man-killed-in-single-snowmobile-collision-2015650
  20. High winds and blowing snow in Sudbury this morning. Hard to tell how much snow we are getting with the 60km/ hour winds.
  21. Looks like one of my favorite lunch stops is closed up?, Damn.. Was a nice easy ride to stop for lunch and top off the sleds at the gas station. They made awesome club sandwiches and Poutine, live entertainment, wife not gonna be happy.. river valley.mp4
  22. Starting to turn Yellow, still some trails with lots of trees, a couple crews headed out this weekend to hopefully open up D trail to the Kukagami rail bed. Cant seem to find that spot location site to show the groomer activity for stp. Saying up to 20cm for this weekend, yahoo!
  23. Think it says on the permit paperwork, to carry that paper, because there is a small sticker with numbers on it, that matches up to the permit #. I just fold mine up small and put it in the same folder as my insurance and ownership just in case.
  24. The smile from your wife and kids when out on the trails even though you can't see it.
  25. My neighbor, purchased. 90 indy, I have no problem with that. I DO have a problem when he waits till dark, fires it up and heads out for a rip on the trails (95% private property). No permit, (last year and this year) no saw to at least cut and move a tree if he encounters one, etc. Not sure if he has insurance... what do you do? I have 2 doo's, permits, and last time I was out cleared some trail, now waiting for them to open. I'm no saint, ill take the kids out for a ride, sometimes on the trail, but I am tired of people sucking every free thing they can out of everything whether it be work, people's generosity, enjoying what others work there Butts off to make good for everyone to enjoy without ever lifting a finger or offering to help. Anyway, it's fustrating.
