  1. Ahh, I remember real doughnuts. Ottawa had a killer establishment at the corner of Carling and Woodroffe. Mr Donut. You could see the whole bakery in back, took up 1/2 the place, through a glass wall. It was worth a visit just for the smell. They had actual coffee too. Now we're expected settle for crappy frozen stuff baked in Toronto and defrosted. Will definitely stop in my next trip through.
  2. Tread carefully. Seems every time I turn around, some tree hugging idiot wants a trail closed down so nobody ever uses it. It's almost an automatic win. Go ahead, and check out a "non motorised trail only" trail over 100 yards from the parking lot. I for one hate having tax dollars go to a single use trail that nobody ever uses.
  3. This, right here. As far as differences go, ride there, then comment. There's nothing that can be done about the terrain (generally speaking) in Ontario, or the snowfall, but getting acceptance in towns and villages could be improved. Many areas in Ontario feature virtual roadblocks, and in Quebec, welcome mats, if not red carpets. It's a chicken and egg thing. Government AND private sector need to get involved. Then there's the almost total lack of rule enforcement and resultant bad publicity and trail closures. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE riding in Ontario. Renfrew area and Missing link get it right. I'm sure there's more, that's just my experience. My local area makes my season worthwhile, riding 5 minutes from my house is what keeps me owning sleds and a trailer. They work HARD to keep things going, and do a great job, but without government assistance to enforce government rules, I can't see it as sustainable.
  4. People drive differently when they know there might be law enforcement as well.
  5. Only needed 1/2 the sleds to cover the same distance.
  6. Enforcement will increase trail pass sales. My Ontario pass has not been checked in 3 years.
  7. Your tax dollars at work, while the roads slowly deteriorate to the point of causing accidents and vehicular damage.
  8. State Farm/Desjardins has all of my toys covered. RV, 2 sleds, 3 dirt bikes. Nobody else comes close.
  9. Rather than provide an active presence on the roads as a deterrent, and to nab the impaired, or sociopathic, the current method seems to me to be to wait for them to kill someone, then show up.
  10. I have almost no opinion on how they enforce it, but this made me sick. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/christy-natsis-appeal-bryan-casey-impaired-driving-fatal-1.4642485 This waste of skin dragged this out for YEARS, because she could afford to. People who followed this will remember how, at the scene, she got on the phone with her lawyer, for an extended period of time, to use legal counsel as an excuse not to blow into the breathalyser. She made the news many times over the years, breaking her bail conditions, and generally being an a-ho. I'm furious about my tax dollars being used to convict, incarcerate, and supposedly "rehabilitate" this POS. The reactive, as opposed to pro-active method of policing drunks and other bad drivers on the road is just not working.
  11. Sad to hear this about Rouski. I had ASSumed the product would be well looked after. I have had both, and Rouski is a vastly superior product, IMHO.
  12. Thanks. I saw his ads, he has "no time to ship"...
  13. 2009 and up, right hand, upper and lower. Not MTX. Let me know if you have 'em, or know where to get them! If I come up empty, I'm going with aftermarket. Thanks!
  14. My Apex and Nytro are sticky at times. It's a mechanical reverse. It won't come out of gear under load, just like any manual transmission. Is there a linkage adjustment on the Phazer?
  15. If I choose to tow my 2 sleds in a brand new tandem axle with brakes, heavy duty enclosed cargo trailer, I need inspections on both truck and trailer. If I buy the equivalent of a flimsy coke can on a single axle with 12" wheels and no brakes, I don't need an inspection. For either device. If safety is the supposed goal here, somebody F'ed up. I understand why a commercial situation needs inspecting. I see rolling wrecks every day in my travels. Small business is taxed so hard these days it's a wonder why anyone continues, ASSuming they can run it sustainably, AND maintain their equipment. I also know the "buy a sticker" business is thriving. From personal experience.
  16. I too find it irritating that I can haul my tandem 16' enclosed cargo trailer with my 32' A class RV legally, with NO TRAILER BRAKES, (RVs are typically seriously brake limited, in my opinion...) no stickers, no inspections. But not legal with my F-150 4wd, with brake controller, and IMHO a vastly safer and more capable vehicle combination. I've LONG since given up hoping anything government pencil pushers make up will have any correlation to reality, but this is pushing it.
  17. We need to get Doug on a sled. I bet he'd fit right in with some of the live-wire characters I've met recently. (Names omitted to protect the innocent)
  18. Aggressive on a 136" Apex, 2nd set, very happy.
  19. 2 incidents. One was a fire, the 2nd, people reporting a fire, was just a coolant leak, driver "didn't notice" and kept driving. Nobody died this week, so far.
  20. I live in Ottawa. No foreign travel required. https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/oc-transpo-has-had-more-collision-fatalities-in-10-years-than-eight-major-canadian-transit-systems-combined I don't use the system, not since I was squeezed into it for one trip, 11 kilometers, 1.3 hours, in 1992, but I do pay for it. Thank goodness for union protection, or this "driver" might have been washed out of Top Gun school. https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/bus-driver-in-fridays-crash-alleged-to-have-been-in-another-collision-days-before/wcm/269eac61-7978-4327-9472-2b34c0b3c0c5 You may remember this one. This driver was having a bit of an "issue". Nobody is willing to admit what actually happened. https://torontosun.com/2013/09/18/oc-transpo-bus-passengers-screamed-stop/wcm/45e9e9ae-ff84-4243-9424-ac93c735b47d They're still sorting out the lawsuits.
  21. Meh. I've been places where crossing the street is more dangerous. Or riding a bus.
