  1. If it's not warranty I go with Wild Bill at Rosseau Rd. just south of Parry Sound. It's a long drive for me but I believe it's worth the drive for service I can trust.
  2. Yeah... I thought of that last year and held onto it then but she is definitely done.
  3. My wife has decided she is done with sledding. Time to sell her barely used 2015 Arctic Cat ZR7000 El Tigre. It has 763 km on the odometer. 135 HP Yamaha 3 cylinder fuel injected 4 stroke engine, Arctic race suspension, air shocks and pump, heated seat, tilt handlebars, mid height windshield, Arctic Cat mirrors, side panel wind deflectors, spare belt, 9.9 gal / 37.5 l fuel capacity. Instrument cluster includes, trip 1, trip 2 and full odometer, hour meter, clock, speedometer, temperature bar gauge with a numeric temp display, fuel gauge bar, voltage meter, 1.25 in. rip saw track, 12 V power outlet, adjustable ski stance and more. The heated seat was a big plus according to my wife. She did one ride each season and invariably it was a very cold day. It has been serviced each season and kept in a fully enclosed trailer. It was started last week for the first time since being serviced for summer storage and fired up right away without any hesitation. Mint condition. I hate to sell it but if she is done she is done. Asking $8,900.00 for a sled that had a list price of approx. $16,000.00
  4. I can follow instructions as well as the next guy. There are online videos and written step by step directions. I choose to have it done by a professional marine mechanic for me. I see it as cheap insurance. The person who does mine has been a mechanic for about 40 years now. A good friend did his own a number of years ago based on people telling him how easy it was. In the spring he put the boat in the water and set off from the dock. He pushed the throttle and the boat didn't pop up on plane as usual. The bilge was filling with water. He missed one drain plug in the fall. If I recall it was on a cooling component and fortunately not the engine block. It was an expensive repair that cost far more than winterizing would have been. That was the last time he did it himself.
  5. as I understand it the GRCA expects the OFSC insurance policy to also cover those who use the trails in the summer and non-snowmobilers in the winter
  6. Whenever you have a challenge with the carbides catching on the edge of the ramp whether it be where it meets the ground or in the gap between the trailer bed and the ramp a piece of the black plumbing drain pipe can solve the problem. If you're loading put the pipe at the edge of the ramp on the ground. Being round the carbide will run up and over then onto the ramp ski guides. Same thing with the gap. For me loading isn't a problem but when backing out the rear of the carbides tend to catch the front edge of the ramp at the gap. The pipe sitting in the gap prevents them from catching.
  7. It is true for your car or truck on a closed road... good question about the snowmobile on a closed trail.
  8. X2 - like the OPP keep saying No ice is safe ice... if you don't know don't go. Too much at stake. Often people see sled tracks and assume it's safe.... could be the tracks are from someone weighing 140 lbs on a 400 lb sled doing 80 kph. The 220 lb guy riding the 600 lb sled doing 40 kph says it's safe. See there's the tracks. Then he goes for a swim
  9. Your helmets should have come with breath deflectors to address fogging. The alternative is a heated visor to replace the ones you have that plug into the sled and there is a spray you can get that helps
  10. without a LUP in place and the OFSC insurance coverage hydro is exposed to liability... not something they want to take on
  11. Good point... Try to pack down a route through the snow at your cottage as early as you can then stay on top of it and keep running the same route. If you can run through a foot of snow and pack it down early in the season and keep packing it regularly you likely won't get stuck. Best to do a large circle on the property rather than a straight line and try to turn around.
  12. Welcome to the forum, sledding and congrats on the cottage. I will reiterate what has been said and is the most critical... have floater suits for sure. I can recommend one of the people on here and his business for that. WildBill - Rosseau Rd. Powersports. Snowmobilers tend to support those that support our sport. Bill and the entire family are extremely active with their local snowmobile club. If the ice isn't staked by the club I wouldn't trust it myself. The clubs have local people knowledgeable with the currents and the lake do the staking and measure thickness for safety before they do. I have seen places where there has been 2 ft. of ice and a few feet away open water. Stick the stake lines. Don't assume that because there are sled tracks the ice is safe. Many people do. It could be that a 100 lb person on a 400 lb sled ran acroos at 80 kph and was fine. The next person at 220 lb on a 600 lb sled going 50 kph may find themselves going swimming. Get a sled with a real windshield or if it comes with a mini windshield swap it out for a taller one. The windshield can make a big difference in comfort. For me I find even the best gloves leave my hands cold. I don't have problems with mitts though. There are also claw mitts which are midway for warmth. They have one "finger" for each pair of fingers and one for the thumb. Having two fingers together helps.
  13. I got the impression talking to a farmer friend of mine that the new trespass regulations applied to all of his farm property and not just the barn. His cattle graze on almost all of the property with the exception of what he uses for hay that year.
  14. anything like concerns over wording on an insurance policy or a legal agreement NEVER go quickly. Lawyers can pass a document back and forth many times, sometimes with nothing more than one word change each time.
  15. You don't know how long the club(s) have been working on this. It could be a very long time that discussions have been underway. It just comes to light when there is an actual impact. I know dealing with those large government bodies and their legal is a very slow process at best.
  16. Just curious but the province just toughened up the laws significantly around trespass on farm property primarily around livestock concerns. Perhaps the laws have enough latitude that they could apply to snowmobilers on farm property.
  17. Last time we went there was sad... they told me they had an onsite restaurant. We got there on the Friday looking for dinner and the restaurant was closed. It was 6:30. No breakfast the next morning. Saturday was open for dinner but the menu was limited and the food was cold when it arrived. The remote for the TV didn't work and there was nothing they could do as maintenance was gone for the day. They would take care of it while we were out the next day... they didn't. That was the OLD Jolly Roger.... The location and trails were ideal so giving the new owner a chance is only fair. It's almost impossible to be any worse than it was. Fingers crossed for a positive experience upcomimg
  18. I would be willing to give the new owners a shot... One big consideration would be that the restaurant be open. Ideally for breakfast and dinner. It's a big negative to have to drive to Parry Sound at the start and end of the day hoping that when you get back someone hasn't parked in front of your trailer you left behind. It happened the last time I was there. Waited 2 1/2 hours beyond when we wanted to go home for the guy to come back and he was.... oh, did I block you in?
  19. The potential problem is they could have a trail pass on the sled just not visible to the angle of the camera. With a person as a witness and picture of the sled plate number it would be different when they can say there definitely wasn't a permit on the sled.
  20. You want to bet the violator had been drinking as well. Hold my drink and watch this stupidity.
  21. Don't you know... those signs are meant for other people. Not them. They're special
  22. welcome to the forum... a blend of people who will travel long distances to ride and others not so much... all willing to share what they experienced in each location.... do the snow dance... we need it..
  23. I track all my mileage and fuel consumption in a spreadsheet every time I fill up. I'm more than happy with what I get in the truck. Especially when I compare it to what others are getting in their compact SUV's as an example.
  24. I wouldn't suggest HE is a fool but lots of others out there.....
  25. The day you get a pickup is the day you find out how many friends you have that you didn't know you had
