  1. Do you think it might be possible that they are blocking the trail at times while working and have requested the club keep the trail closed?
  2. I thought that I had read somewhere ( a month or 2 ago) that Hydro was working along that part of the right away.
  3. Do you mean a parking area in Temagami?
  4. Most sleds will do at least 150 km safely on a tank of fuel but if you are puttering around off trail back and forth to the car you safe distance may vary for the poorer. Fill it when it gets to 1/4 tank and you'll be OK. If the shields you have are a single thickness they are not for snowmobiling. If you have dual thickness shields then really all you can do is try cracking them open a bit to get rid of the hot moist air in the helmet. If that doesn't work you can buy heated shields for many styles of helmets. They have to be used with a wiring harness that runs from the helmet to a plugin on the dash of the sled. If your sled doesn't have the dash plug Wild Bill at Rosseau Road Powersports can wire one in for you if you don't feel confident doing it yourself. Hope this helps.
  5. Welcome to the forum Doug. I believe you will get some smiles and lots of knowledge here. If you are thinking of getting involved with the Sno-Voyageurs and are looking for a contact name/ number, let me know.
  6. Congratulations and welcome to OC! If you are purchasing a 2 up sled and have any notion that you may do some riding more than 2 miles per trip with your significant other, I would suggest making sure the sled has heated hand grips for the passenger. I would also suggest that you have a seasoned rider with you for your first ride or to go over the does and don'ts beforehand. As well, the first time you ride into the cottage, don't ride 2up or tow the sled. If possible, walk in around the cottage and make sure there isn't to much chance of getting stuck before you ride in. Figure out your route into the cottage and back out (preferably a loop so you don't have to turn the sled around). 7. Personally I do not believe that it should be put back on Barrie to deal with. I don't believe that they have as much invested as the affected clubs in this situation in terms of time invested and desire to have a workable trail system. The clubs and districts do need head office to back them up and help get this snowball stopped before it becomes an avalanche.
  8. Welcome to OC Dewworm! Hope you find the snow. Let us know if you do.
  9. I've been told that Elmira was somehow able to get an agreement with the GRCA. Pictures on the Lake Conestoga FB seem to indicate that they are working (apparently successfully) on a bypass route around the GRCA for some of their trails. Last I heard, Bridgeport was hopeful of getting around the GRCA land by going into FEB trail system for a few km's. x2 to the various club exec and volunteers for all their hard work during this holiday time of the year.
  10. 11" wide trailer would be illegal. 8'6" is max legal allowed everywhere.
  11. Possibly to save some money given the government cutbacks of funding to Conservation Authorities. Just my guess.
  12. I read a post by someone I don't know that said the GRCA wanted insurance coverage all year round. I'm not sure if that is fact.
  13. Below is a post from their Facebook Page. This news affects some of the Fergus Elora Belwood Clubs trail network near Lake Belwood. To All of our Dedicated Supporters, Lake Conestoga Snowmobilers has been unable to secure land-use permission for any of our trails that are located on Grand River Conservation Authority properties. As such, our club will be respecting the landowner by closing the B109 trail from Sideroad 3 (intersection with Palmerston Snow Kings) to the Diamond Side Road (affecting Millenium, Beaver Pond, Selinger Road and Duck Pond trails) as well as somewhere near Sideroad 15 to Wellington Road 45 (affecting Tornado Alley, Sailing Club Road, Clubhouse, and Park trails) for this season. In addition, local club trails from the Millenium T to Concession Road 5 (affecting the Pumphouse Trail) will also need to be closed. We are deeply saddened that we will not be able to open our clubhouse as it is located on the affected trails. Lake Conestoga Snowmobilers dedicated volunteers and gracious landowners have been hard at work this entire autumn to install our network of trails for your enjoyment. Please refer to the OFSC Interactive trail guide for the latest trail status updates. At this time Lake Conestoga Snowmobilers would like to thank the Grand River Conservation Authority for the successful partnership we have enjoyed over the past 45 years. We look forward to a collaborative effort involving the affected clubs, the OFSC and the Grand River Conservation Authority to discuss and overcome the challenges that were presented this year and move forward with a healthy relationship in the years to come.
  14. That thing would act like a sail. Good thing its on a scooter LOL
  15. I don't think the intention was for only posts from club/district people for these area forums. At least I've never had a problem posting in these sections. I think it was meant for threads relating to these areas including club info.
  16. Agreed that its fair game on Crown Land Denis however as IQ mentions riding closed trails on private property is not right. If you are doing "club work" officially or not, no problem. The trouble we have here in the south is that trail often goes across fields with winter crops that can be damaged if there isn't enough snow cover. As you know there is a reason they are marked closed.
  17. Ox, to be fair they shouldn't be out riding on closed trails!
  18. Unfortunately, the non volunteer people who ride closed trails don't give a damn about anybody but themselves.
  19. I have to disagree with your assessment of TD service. I had a sled stolen a number of years ago. I thought I would have to wait 30 days before they would even discuss paying it out but after a small negotiation 3 weeks after the theft, they gave me what I had asked for and I had the cheque within 7 days.
  20. In addition to the sheet, you may want to consider TEF GEL (www.tefgel.com/contain.php?param=tefgel_infor) It's what the aircraft and boat industry often use on dissimilar metals. Downside is that it is expensive but so is a rotted frame. I wonder if a Sacrificial Anode (like that used on boats and boat motors) attached to the frame near the axle mounts would work?
  21. Hey Nick, for what its worth, its only about 35 km. of quick trail further down to Petawaw and the Quality Inn & suites is just across the road from the trail. Good restaurant out front. Fuel about a km. before the hotel.
  22. Welcome to OC Paul. First thing you have to do is quit calling that Poo a Skidoo LOL
  23. When we rode to Hearst at the end of Feb., one of the guys went into Opasatika for fuel. He was talking to the lady that runs it and she told him that she was going to be closing that gas station soon. Not sure when the closing is to happen but she said that she had plans in Kap. We wondered if it was another case of the TSSA at work but not sure they have any authority in Opas.
  24. Heigh Head B&B in Horseshoe Valley was owned by my wife's cousin. They sold the property and I'm pretty certain it became a private residence. I couldn't find any evidence about it being open via a Google search.
