  1. For Parry Sound I would imagine it is quicker to go to Service Ontario - I would recommend the privately run branch in Mactier: https://www.ontario.ca/locations/serviceontario/high-and-front-mactier Great thing about it is open Saturdays. Your sticker will be free so might as well get the two year version. Reasonably certain that bringing your old registration paperwork and possibly insurance pink slip (although I have never had to show this) would make things easier especially with the address change. Might want to phone ahead to check opening hours for covid ? They also stock these - Dragonfly Wingman - pick up a couple for the spring - they really work!: https://getyourbug.com There is also Service Ontario down on Bay St. Parry Sound. Links to renewing on-line at the above url.
  2. 4.7 seconds on a bull in Medicine Hat high school rodeo once while working there. With a name like DaisyJean how bad could a bull be? Have a video somewhere. A decade later, my younger brother ends up working in the Hat as a pathologist - first job out of med school. Went to see the professional rodeo there - his first ever. He's watching when a bull rider got bucked off, kicked in the head by the bull and died in the corral. Brother always commented on how being there saved him some work... when the cowboy ended up on his "table" didn't need much examination - blunt force trauma to the head. At age 24 though I was working steady grave yard underground and going to school full time days. No time for drunk driving nor did I have the inclination to loose my driver's license due to being impaired - enjoyed the freedom it provided.
  3. A few pics from that day....bob had a few of me on his camera....got lost when he submerged... sign said "Stay on Trail" ...so we did...except bob of course... Kind of miss the old days before the braying of jackasses on facebook...
  4. Related....another agricultural hazard to avoid...from Saskatchewan sledding site....see a lot of these in Ontario as well.... Be careful out there!
  5. Maybe bought as "family compound"?...real estate descriptor term which has surfaced over the past few years reminiscent of the Kennedy family compound in Kenebuckport (or wherever)...others to watch out for...handyman special....cozy....and a local property around here for which a septic system application could not be approved...."as nature intended". (outhouse or holding tank - bad idea in both cases)
  6. ...his eulogy..... "...and let it never be said that he could not hit the broad side of a barn".
  7. Watch this video....it has a calming effect....aren't the ducks having fun? Have a nice day! therapy ducks.webm
  8. Sadly yes in some cases. From a newspaper report.... A woman had her suv stolen with her dog inside it. Ended up on that reserve. She negotiated for the release of her dog...tied up on a hydro pole at a pre-determined spot. Never saw the vehicle again. Made me sad to read about it.
  9. Which is what a family does until snow starts to fall and trails open. Scroll up and down facebook pages if you want - this forum has been here long enough that opinions and help can be trusted.
  10. Here you go: https://airriderhovercraft.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral Make a deal with the local fire and rescue folks....they get to use it when you don't need it and you're off to the camp all weather.
  11. Only one RN in my household...darn ! ....but I have been "training" for this whole scenario now for about 15 years.....it's how I roll. The province wide shut down is mainly to prevent shoppers, restaurant and bar goers, fitness place exercisers, yogo studio grunters and others of that ilk from flooding neighbouring municipalities (and spreading virus) who's places of business have not been closed. Ottawa is a prime example - numbers down but anticipated Quebecers coming into town. Back in the recession of 2008, I anticipated a strip mall row of "looks" related businesses to go under thinking how could people be spending money on getting their finger and toe nails painted and wouldn't a tan outside in the sun be a money saver compared to having to bake in a tanning bed? But nope they did not.......a recent TV news item on another about to die without federal largesse business features a woman on Queen Street West, Toronto ....who runs a salon that deals exclusively with shaping eye brows....FFS. Get what you need folks, not what you want. I agree with Canuck but reality suggests that the Lesters, Nicholsons, and by association the OFSC, being mouth pieces for after market mods and pushing off trail machines can't be counted on for anything but doing the same as they have done for years. Just realized I haven't received the magazine in over two years. ho hum.... scottyr...my regards to you and your front line workers....I know exactly how burned out they must be at this time. Do something nice for them like get out of the house for a while so they can enjoy some space after returning from work so they don't have to worry about infecting you.
  12. Based on precedent set by Charles II in 1670 granting Prince Rupert and other founders of the Hudson Bay Company exclusive rights to trade in all land included in the watershed area of Hudson Bay, I have discovered a small creek proximate to my property which terminates at the French River water system ...... as such, 2 weeks for me as well. (thanks fo the person who posted the Ontario crown land map) Should be some snow by then.
  13. Article CBC news Sudbury: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/snowmobiles-covid-19-pandemic-colour-zones-health-ofsc-1.5847775 Not sure it makes things any clearer.
  14. Snowbug was my first snowmobile bought second hand for $25 or so. Lasted one winter, no money to fix it. No trails in those days either. But I keep the spirit alive....
  15. Perhaps the word count for the article exceeded a limit and they had to cut "dashing through the snow"...
  16. That is the fly in the ointment. In certain zones in Quebec everyone in a hotel room or cabin must live at the same residential address. Good possibility Ontario would follow. Good article (except for the dreadful choice of asparagus pictured next to ribs ) but assumes that group riding from place to place will be as it has been in the past. This season is going to take a whole lot of new thinking. I think most overlooked by folks planning to ride together as a group is to how to determine if one of the group is not a carrier of the virus. Despite the use of masks, it wouldn't take much to have someone help change a belt or give a vehicle a pull or push, and have a nice gush of virus filled breath headed your way. Ontario zones: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/zones-and-restrictions#covid-19-zones Quebec zones and regulations: https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/progressive-regional-alert-and-intervention-system/map-of-covid-19-alert-levels-by-region/
  17. There is the cultural center in Moose Factory, the church with holes in the floor for the floods, Hudson Bay outpost, and if you have read any of Joseph Boyden's books i.e. "Three Day Road" or "Through Black Spruce" his imagery of the area featured in these books is remarkable. (some cultural identity questions regards the author) Kentucky Fried Chicken in Moose Factory is practically a traditional food like bannock with the Native people. (when the KFC in Yellowknife went bankrupt some suggested government grants to keep it open based on this premise) Frankly though, best seen in the summer months after getting off the Polar Bear Express railway from Cochrane. Bugs bad.
  18. Here's another good internet resource - enable you to see (and learn) each region: https://motoneiges.ca/actions/decouvrirRegion?regId=18&request_locale=en&p=Discover the region Gaspésie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine on snowmobile Use the drop down box that says "visit another region". Scroll down for accomodation and other info - trails conditions by club are featured at the bottom. Motoneiges magazine also has another page that "colours" areas depending on overall conditions, but it is not up yet - likely once trails start opening up. The imotoneige for phones is also excellent. Looks like it is going to be a one time purchase with updates each year for free - at least has been for the last 3 years. So...between your indexed facebook club sites, those of the FCMQ, Motoneige magazine, web sites, and likely the weather sites of your choice, you should be kept fairly busy.
  19. My plan is to have no plan... maintain a heightened sense of available snowmobiling opportunities situational awareness and exploit opportunities as they occur. Which, when you think about it, is a plan.
  20. More info - scroll down to ski hills and snowmobiles: https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/answers-questions-coronavirus-covid19/translate-to-anglais-page-receptrice-theme-1/dossier-faq/tourism-answered-questions-covid-19/ FFS
  21. BTW - has anyone fact checked this information? Initial source quote might be helpful. I am having difficulty finding anything. Nothing on FCMQ site and they maintain trails will be open. The government "measures in force" site says nothing about banning tourists - some protocols in place, but these have been known in shut down areas in Ontario. If you are doing day tours from a single place, don't see much difference between this week and several previous. Now if you can't live without bars, restaurants, etc. there's a pandemic on. Thanks for posting this gobills - good start to figuring out what is going on.
  22. I think you will be fine. Given a solid rib structure, a certain amount of flex is probably needed for expansion and contraction due to temp changing. Too tight would pop the fasteners right out during summer heat.
  23. Not too surprised. Any tourism region with a conduit from a major city / population is on the higher alert categories.
  24. As usually everyone has insurance from their home province, just go here after trail pass purchase and confirmation: As you are paying with credit card, you get money back in cheque form, and collect travel points, cash back points, etc.
  25. Concur ...I have been lucky so far with booking some places in advance that have VERY onerous cancellation fees up to 50% or more. A couple of days of rain in one place can put a damper on a longish stay. I really like the booking internet sites as well as the chain book online sites in that the cancellation policies are explained and can be printed or saved for display if any disagreements result - either through poor language comprehension or lack of knowledge.
