  1. I hear you, but something is off in Ontario. How can it be so different on these issues jumping just one or two provinces in any direction of Ontario. Go to Quebec, New Brunswick or Nova Scotia and you get gps maps and groomer tracking. There volunteers are focused on delivering an exceptional product while our volunteers are focused on defending the insurance companies interest. It was frustrating to be involved with and is frustrating to see. The organization has great people. But way too much effort is going to risk management.

  4. Club shared a picture of heavy equipment on site this week starting construction. While I am not sure about the mine I believe both the mill (whose owner is also an investor in the project) and CN have provided some sort of room purchase guarantees. Won't be done for this season but good to see work starting.

  5. The argument would be atv's in the off season. Its either an atv issue or an insurance liability issue or both. Not snowmobiliers riding closed trails.

  6. I will gather some up and drop them off at the OFSC and make sure they are aware that using the maps could lead to people riding on closed trails.

  7. You will likely be disappointed. I was told a week ago that our club would be picking up maps from the District in the next couple of weeks.

  8. I can tell you the one thing I would like to see change. I would move to have Snowmobile insurance not fall under the OAP......... I would like to see where it has it's own insurance - which would be tailored to off-road use only. Sleds are not cars, do not operate under the conditions in any way shape or form like cars - and should not be "lumped" in as such. Boats aren't - so why are sleds? No standard 1st party injury benefits - unless purchased by the user i.e.- opt in - opt out ( choose you risk level ) No tort actions permitted for any use/operation of a sled ( Quebec with vehicles..... ) while riding on a prescribed OFSC trail - legislated - statue barred. These steps would save snowmobiling in numerous ways. Unfortunately - it won't happen - because sledding is small potatoes in the bigger picture to those who don't care about it.

  9. You're right on the SIR. Still begs the question what could those volunteers hours be doing instead of risk management paperwork? If $167 per permit is volunteer hours what percentage of that goes to risk management? I bet you the dollar value is large. Instead of 4 hrs taking the signage course for the 15th time not learning anything wouldn't that time be better spent actually installing signs? The legal questions are much larger than snowmobiling. What makes Ontario so special? We pay through the nose for insurance here vs the rest of the country. Are accident victims better off here after the fact?

  10. I remember a time when when the world of snowmobiling didn't want to embrace the digital era. That were all up in arms, when we left the text based trail status updates. Trail -2023 - open- from uncle stuckys outhouse, to the big tree at shits creek.. This wasn't a knee jerk reaction, and we have some very good people leading this volunteer driven organization. Insurance, risk management and liabilty are all very real. Always check the interactive trail guide for what trails are available for access!

  11. Yeah maybe so. Completely different story in cottage country. This is an issue there too, but I'd say ATV's are still the major issue causing closures in areas that are north of the farm belt.

  13. Like mentioned above it would be ideal that the OFSC presents the data they have that stopping usage of track maps is going to lower trespassing. No other places (states, provinces, etc) to my knowledge are doing this? It just seems the OFSC continues to take these stances that blindside members and offer less services for them. For anyone involved in the OFSC was this discussed at district meetings or the AGM? Or with landowners? I have the file now so should be good for a little bit…

  14. Secrets out. https://ucsr.ca/permits/ Kinda funny values. Wonder how they were determined. Weird to see Ontario prices well under New Brunswicks.

  15. I was there. I didn't know it starts Friday afternoon and arrived Friday evening. Met a few people from other clubs and said hi to Nunz. Sorry Nunz, I would have loved to sit and chat with you but never saw you again. I'll try to show up earlier next year. Food and accommodations were excellent. Well presented and entertaining event. Everyone spoke well and to the point. Jerry
