Turbo Burgo
Heading to Elk Lake for March 4, 5, 6, 7. We are staying at the Elk Lake Wilderness Resort / Lodge as I have heard good things about this place. Looking for some info on day trips, must see spots, must ride trails, etc. We are comfortable riding big km. 300+km is fine... especially up there. Can some of you provide input and your past experiences? Anybody else going to be here during that time?
revrnd
Southwest of town on A107C is Canyon Lake & there is quite the height of land that gives a good view of the area

Its all good, when snow and conditions are.

Rockies is a restaurant on lake wanhiipitae(sp) and they have fuel. The C trail is a very nice trail. Lots of nice views and can be fast. To make it a really long day you can go to wolf mountain on your way back to elk lake.
PISTON LAKE CRUISER
7 hours ago, Turbo Burgo said: What and where is rockies? Any lunch stop recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help! Rockies from your base at ELWR is 250 km. one way and you would likely return the way you came for a 500 km. day. Not all fast trail. You could go to Kirkland Lake via Elk Lake then south to New liskeard via A108 and back to your base. There are some choices for trails to use so length of day can be adjusted up to approx. 330 km. You could also ride up the A trail to Rollies (if open) in Ramore for lunch and return to base. 240km. These are all based on trail availability. Hope this helps.

That would be much more doable as its only 170 k one way. And the a107c is pretty winding trail but the C trail from Shining tree down to the c206d is pretty quick. Not a bad day's ride. There's always Shining Tree and Gogama (if the trails are open). Looks like @ the moment Gogama is cut off.
Johnny_5oh
If the rest of the C trail open up north of shining tree there is a lookout north of hwy 144 that is over 500 meters above sea level. if you look on the ITG you can see the trail but it does not have a number. Spectacular view. I think it is a cell phone tower.

Yamatario
We just spent 4 days sledding out of Auld Reekie. The run from Elk Lake to Rockies is a BIG day. The Canyon is a nice side trip on your to run Auld Reekie or Tree Bears in Shinning Tree for lunch. Fuel available at Auld Reekie and Shinning Tree. C trail from Shinning Tree towards Mattagami or Tatachikapita not doable. Sounds like L143 not going to open this year as Timmins does not want to groom down to meet the Gowganda groomer. Was there a sign for Canyon Lake? Last winter it was just a home sign (magic marker on a piece of plywood) stuck in the snow beside the trail. About 1-2ft high right at snowmobile track going south.

signfan
That would be great. I'm really curious on how things fair with next weeks warm up. Debating whether this area will be rideable or whether we will need to truck to the NCDN the weekend of the 13th.
