I was talking to a buddy after work in Toronto tonight and he was surprised when I told him that Mount St. Louis was open for 2 weekends (he's a skier, not a sledder).

Totally different weather outside the GTA.

I wonder if that's not an issue with permit sales. Years ago, we had a lot of snow in Toronto and a ton of snow up north. Now, we have no snow in Toronto and a lot up north. 3 million residents look out there window at grass most of the winter. We should put up electronic billboards linked to northern trail webcams.

Hahahaha. It was great seeing you at the gas station that morning. Sort of snuck up on me, lol.

I won't be sleddin' until early Jan.

Book your room now, Lep.

As for SJ being plugged in?

You'll know he's up when your lights flicker.

:D

Some day we're going to put him on a stock sled.

I had that challenge with my wife last year. She didn't see any snow in Toronto or Port Severn and never imagined there was any to ride. I actually had to show her pictures of how good it was when you got around the Seguin and north to convince her.

Blue Mountain opened yesterday and on the news last night they showed the hospital in Bracebridge under quarantine. The interesting part was the amount of snow on the ground. I picked up the sleds last weekend from Wild Bill. They are ready to ride. Bring on the snow.

Only a sledhead would look at an image of a hospital under quarentine and notice ...snow.

Glad I bought an enclosed trailer. Going to need it again this year.

I was reading my outdoor journal last week and came across some noteworthy entries.December 16th 2010- most medium and certainly small lakes in Haliburton had ice already! Even Boshkung which is a bigger lake with weird currents was 70% covered. The HCSA had the B103 open and there was anywhere from 12 to 18" of snow down on the ground. Common overnight temperatures were -18 on average. I would not call that global warming!

December 27th 2010- all major trails open in the Haliburton forest. Logged 130Km's trails were 8/10 for the day!

Janury 12th - Extreme cold..some nights dipping to -30 or lower. No new snow though since late December

Feb 4th 2011 - very little new snow! Trails are rough but extreme cold! Still many nights in the -25 to -30 range which is very cold for Haliburton for a long stretch

Feb 11th-13th - Trails have imporoved with fresh snow. Run to Whitney was great!

Feb 18th- Huge warm up and rain. Tails are closed.+7 outside!

Feb 221st - Trails remained closed

Feb 27th - Some trails re=opened on limited basis

March 5th - All trails closed, rain and very warm

The previous December 2009 was when Minden got well over 4 feet of snow in under 72 hours!

Looking at December 2011 there was barely 1" of snow on the ground at Christmas here. Boxing day saw another 6" of snow

The past two Winters were affected by the El and La whatever's..I thought it was supposed to be "neutral" this year.

Interesting to read back through my log.

That 2010 winter was a wired one. I put on about 400km riding the rail line to fenlon a few times at Xmas. Came back up at end of Jan and could still see my tracks in the yard from Xmas. That is how little new snow there was. The next winter never even road in the area, since we had 3 feet here in southern Ontario. Last year no snow below Barrie. This year who knows yet.
