  1. IMO OFSC has not pushed to get destination signage right in this province. Not even close. There are good pockets here and there, but nowhere near as good as it should be. It's a corporate policy change that is needed. Clubs and districts aren't making it a priority. Needs to be looked at from a higher level in the organization with some proper thought put into it like has been done in Quebec or New Brunswick.
  2. I havent seen many of these signs actually installed yet though. Which clubs besides missing link actually have them?
  3. Coverage is not limited by time. It's for "normal operations of a snowmobile club" 365 days a year. Volunteers working on trails in the off season is normal use. Providing coverage for a landowner for a hiker accessing their property with the landowners permission is not normal use (regardless of time of year). This is the issue. Municipalities/ gov't owned agencies trying to push this liability on the clubs. It's more complicated than this when you start running possible scenario's, but that's the heart of the issue at hand. Glad to see things have been dealt with in Ottawa.
  4. So 2020 lineup with new colour choices?? That will be a disappointment.
  5. No that's a big screw up. No parking there ever.
  6. Mxz with a taiga driveline in it? Electric is coming sooner than later. Maybe 2021 is the year.
  7. My boys have logged 300 - 400 km so far this winter over numerous outings. Enjoying every minute. It's a different way to enjoy the sport. Arguably just as fun. Just takes some planning to keep the ride distances in check. We're learning hot paws are our friends
  8. Yeah what constitutes modified? Snow tracker carbides? Choko handlebar muffs. Aftermarket exhaust? That's a BS question from a BS insurer. I'm definately on board for enforcing the laws we have. Nothing wrong with stock exhaust systems. Good to hear the cops are out enforcing the law.
  9. Just go. Trails in Bancroft are awesome. I'd expect similar things in Haliburton.
  10. This post is the best post I have seen to date and is accurate. From my vantage point looking in from the outside the only thing that OFSC changed corporately is OFSC started demanding to see the non conforming land use agreements before issuing insurance certificates. In the past this may not have occurred which allowed clubs to mistakingly sign non-standard LUP's without proper review. I'd challenge the effected clubs to prove that what is an issue today was not an issue in the past and was actually reviewed and signed off by head office or the insurance broker. This is very unfortunate and I feel for the clubs that are stuck working through this, but if it hadn't occurred and an incident occurred where did that clubs executive sit with the non-conforming agreement in place and the insurer having a loop hole to jump out. If corporately OFSC decides to add all of this additional coverage what does that do to the premiums? Is it even affordable? Ultimately what the municipalities / large corporations risk managers are doing is not right. As the property owners they have risks to insure themselves. Especially in multi use trail situations. It sucks that this is occurring, but the viability of the entire system needs to be maintained. Hopefully OFSC is adding the needed resources to support the clubs with these legal negotiations. It is definately an area OFSC needs to support properly and I am sure there is examples from the past where enough support was not provided. If you bought a permit there is 17,794 km of trail open today to ride. Go riding and get your money's worth. Riding from your backyard is not always a guarantee. There is no case to say OFSC deliberately sold permits with no plans to open trails. Land use closures happen every year like it or not. It's part of what happens with a trail organization of this size. Everyone hates that this is occurring, but there is legitimate and valid reasons for it. Many of the closure issues are getting corrected. Hopefully they all will in due time.
  11. Not much detail there. What does the clause say that council wants put back in place? There is two sides to every story.
  12. Yeah I agree Birds Creek is a good spot. Just trying to expand where we can get to in the days run. Railbed running has gotten rather boring so Maynooth cut a bunch of that running out.
  13. Not saying it's a right, but the small town hospitality is certainly lost when you go down this route. They are a business that benefits greatly from the sport. I'd be the first to buy gas and a snack from them every trip by. Fact is I can park at one of the other local restaurants or on a township sideline free of charge in the area and would certainly thank those businesses for letting me. It just threw me. I won't be returning to park and ride from there and am now doing my homework which is what this thread is all about.
  14. Ok great. Is the spot in Maynooth public property? Only reason I ask is I learned the hard way last year that some businesses in the area are getting foolish. Parked at Trudy's on 62 only to come back at end of day to a note on my windshield from the owners stating they felt I needed to pay them for parking. Couldn't believe it. Someone trying to charge for parking 30 km out in the bush from Bancroft. I'd just like to avoid a repeat issue.
  15. Is there any places near Maynooth to park and ride from?
  16. Any news on this groomer and Top B? Was headed that way Thursday. Would love to know if it will be a mogul field to stay away from or not.
  17. West Coast of nfld for that time of year. Base out of Cornerbrook area. You may get lucky elsewhere, but it's a crap shoot.
  18. Why can't Ontario clubs groom a trail that's located in Ontario?
  19. Be careful on that lake. There is large areas of open water at the end of February on it in the best of winters.
  20. Timberline snowmobile club clubhouse. #2 Henan Road Pembroke Have left the rig there several times with no issue. Has direct trail access.
  21. Nope. Every club has it's own agreement (same one from the mto in theory). In recent years it's went to a district agreement between the district and mto, but still seperate for every area. The MTO signs off on every crossing and they have a spec you have to meet for sightlines, etc. Each district deals with their local MTO field office. Who knows what's going on here. I'm only speculating.
  22. Mixed messaging isn't it. My guess is the MTO won't renew the crossing agreement. Club can't open those sections until they get it. 9 out of 10 riders are going riding anyways I'm sure.
  23. It's all along hwy 17. Maybe an MTO issue? Kinda comical.
  24. Can't say this is a game changer. It's certainly no rev chassis announcement. Where is the electric sled release? Something with 300 km of range in minus 20 degree weather. That would have zero issues with altitude to boot.
  25. If on a budget Kijiji is your best bet. Find some good FXR gear used. Octane or Team series snow suits that fit you. Buy boots, gloves and your helmet new. You want to know the history of a helmet and don't want cold feet or gloves. Dont cheap out on these three items. Royal Distributing is where most buy, but there are lots of good options (dealers mainly). Don't buy anything from Canadian Tire. You will be disappointed and cold if you buy the lines they offer.
