Best trails around Port Sydney

Recommended Posts

I’m a Canadian expat living in the UK and I’m bringing my wife up to Port Sydney for a couple of days to try and get her into snowmobiling :)

Would any of you happen to have any recommendations for where to go from Port Sydney that has good food/some scenic views to get her in to the sport? We have to be back in Port Sydney for 4 PM

Thanks all

You can eat in port sydney at 3 pines lodge. Awesome wings! Take her out to baysville for the day. Pavillion restaurant in Baysville is closed mon-tues. Good food. G,C,D on the map are warming shelters. E is gas and Pavillion restaurant is across the street. Cast Iron in Baysville has good food too. Send a message when u want to go and i can let u know the grooming situation.  Currently they are punched

Just my 73 year old opinion but if you take a lady who has never snowmobiled on a 146 km. trip the first time she rides, you will NEVER have/get to take her sledding again. Start small on a smooth trail day and she might enjoy it.

This made me laugh, definitely good advice. She has been riding once before but it was in Midland about a decade ago with mediocre snow haha so 146 km may be a bit much.

Thanks very much for this, funny enough we are staying at the 3 pines lodge! How long do you roughly think this loop would take?

Going up D trail to sand lake is easily doable, have a bit to eat at restaurant there. Can head out check out the ice caves and ride back via d. If d's in good shape it's nice easy ride.
Plan b could trailer to info centre at 518 and do easy ride to ice caves and some of scenic d123 trail to Burks falls. That one is one of my favourite for stunning views. I would avoid big hill if you don't have studs though.  I think if you take al300 it avoids hill but I can't remember exactly where it is. It's a stunning hill if you can navigate it. I am pretty sure it is between 300 and d north. I have had a few oh crap moments on that hill but never ended up in reburb. Lots of riders wipe out on it, if it's icey it's a tough go 🤡

Im not sure why the map shows that many kms. I just did it today and it was 101km. We stopped to help some guy get his sled back on the trail by angels marsh, stopped at the Irishmans shelter for an hour, had dinner at the Pavillion then back to port sydney. I had my better half with me, she rides a good pace, and we left around 2ish and were back around 6:15. Im not far from 3 pines lodge. You could shorten the trip too and just go to baysville and back but theres some really nice trails on the east side of baysville that are beginner friendly and they have a great warm up shelter.

Trails are good! I'll update if the HGR groomer does Baysville run tonight.

Groomers out on the east side. Ccotton are you renting sleds?

D north through Du Ya Wanna now has a large section closed - so that is a bit of a bummer for heading north from Port Sydney.

Can still get there - but just not using the D.

Ride safe folks

Yup we are renting for Tuesday and going up today

Unfortunately all the restaurants are closed in Baysville on Tuesdays. You could ride up to Deerhurst via d102 to 54 to Penn lake for lunch maybe. Two road run stretches and a plowed section of d102 trail south of Brittania rd to get there but those are snow covered currently so its not awful and lots of nice trail otherwise, or you could also just heat up a packed lunch on the woodstove at the new warming hut in baysville.

That's a shame someone had an incident with logging truck and logging company pulled permission until they are finished logging.

Good to hear. Not much traffic today either. Groomers are out tidying it all up again.
