  1. I don't enjoy wearing a mask... I don't think anyone does. But I do when I enter public spaces. One of the reasons... I do it for the senior who may happen to be in the line at the grocery store with me who is likely more vulnerable to catching the virus than most and more vulnerable to possibly dying if they do get the virus. Just a little bit of respect for other people... not only the seniors but there are much younger who also have compromised immune systems and are more vulnerable. Our local grocery store manager stopped a couple from entering his store for refusing to wear a mask... good on him. We need more like him.
  2. got it... the more widespread the number of cases, the more people that die... the faster there will be a vaccine.... lol
  3. Just goes to show why there are so many cases of COVID per capita in the US compared to Ontario.
  4. Welcome to the forum... to answer your question... wherever there is snow is the best. At times Sudbury and north have had better snow conditions than locations south of there. But there have also been years where they have had less snow. Myself I prefer the trails around south east Georgian Bay and Muskoka. A lot depends on the type of riding you want to do... scenic twisting trails or high mileage cover as much distance as you can as fast as you can in a day. Check the OFSC website for the Interactive Trail Guide. That and postings on here will show you the first trails open and you will also get some first hand conditions observations here on the forum.
  5. I shop around each year... I can save a LITTLE if I want to have the sled with A, one truck with B, the other with C, the boat with D, the house with E and so on. The little bit of savings isn't worth the aggravation of having to deal with multiple insurance providers. One stop shopping for me. The one thing that may drive me away though is the "we are experiencing high call volumes and you may experience a longer than normal wait time". I've been hearing that for at least a year now. The last call was a little over 45 minutes on hold.
  6. I got my magazine yesterday... the mailman mentioned he has delivered a few but hasn't gotten his yet.
  7. Devils advocate... As I understand it the OFSC funds delivery of those magazines to those that tick the box. If you are a first time permit buyer I believe you don't get the magazines until the following season. Does anyone at OFSC actually validate that the appropriate number of magazines are paid for are printed and delivered to the permit buyers or do they just hope it happens. I haven't gotten anything this year so far. One of the benefits of OFSC membership when you buy a permit is a discount at Mark's. Only problem is you need a discount card to present at the register. I used to get one in the mail but haven't received one in many years. If not mistaken I did get one along with the magazines once.
  8. I'm guessing the track isn't studded
  9. Sales of sleds have taken off... just like boats RV's and other toys. There will be lots of snowbirds that are likely getting back into snowmobiling since they aren't going south and likely buying permits.
  10. I know of a couple that are doing really well compared to others. They have created from scratch a significant online presence with their menu and ordering for takeout or curbside including paying by credit or debit online. They have all the precautions inside for those that choose to eat in.
  11. I can fly in and out of the US for business but there are two challenges with that. I can get medical travel insurance BUT it will NOT cover anything COVID related. When I return to Canada I have to quarantine for 14 days.
  12. The restaurant business is tough at the best of times. Throw in the virus and it's a real crap shoot.
  13. They wanted impartiality in identifying those that were taking advantage of working from home. Online activity was able to identify the difference between work from home abuse and work from home discipline. They wanted to eliminate the personal aspect of... we can't let Dave go... he just bought a house. Not fun at all... the worst part of managing people was those times when you had to tell someone that they're now unemployed. Sucks big time. Fortunately I didn't have any connection to these people. Just a list of userid's and stats.
  14. That's one of our jokes... if I've been away I call to let her know I'm on my way home so it's time to give her boyfriend the boot.
  15. I still have mine and am quite happy with it or do you mean trading in the wife's sled? She wouldn't be happy with any sled ride. The one we sold had air shocks that could be adjusted to a precise level. Her biggest complaint though was the helmet made her feel like a bobble head and she got a sore neck. I will admit she has a point in some aspects. Perfectly smooth trail in the morning is often trash by lunch time with the throttle jockeys that can't just ride but have to keep digging holes.
  16. I have two customers that recognized they were doing quite well with people working from home but that some of those people were not pulling their weight. I was paid to go through their system logs and identify those that were obviously not producing and were taking advantage of the situation. They were going to restructure and as a result those who were not productive were being made redundant. The rest were given the option of returning to a modified office environment or continue working from home.
  17. It does indeed take discipline to work from home. There are distractions but managers can see productivity and work with those who have low productivity. After traveling I would return home and have a week or two of preparing reports. My wife would ask... can you take the dog for a walk, can you run to the store and get... the answer was NO! I'm working, pretend I'm not here.
  18. Sold yesterday. Trailer looks empty without it. I get home and my wife says... probably would have kept it had there been more snow lately. The washboard jars my neck and back and I don't like riding snirt. I could have shot her.
  19. It seems to be pretty common and they seem to blame it on COVID and try to explain it by people working from home instead of a call centre. Add CRA to the list... 1 hr. 10 min. on hold to be disconnected followed by 50 min. only to be disconnected yet again. As for insurance... TD is the same as last year
  20. Porta Potti Use similar for our boat
  21. I met up with a guy once who had a 4 sled trailer. He had partitioned off the front half of the trailer with a wall and a door to the rear. He had insulated the front with Styrofoam glued to the walls and roof, installed a roof vent and built a bunk on one side. He ran a generator to power a small electric heater and microwave. He had a heavy duty sleeping bag and would shut down the generator when he went to sleep. An RV power cord connection was added to the trailer. He claimed it saved a fortune on hotel rooms.
  22. So how do they account for the truckers that need to eat and sleep in their area in order to get their supplies to them? Is that as the crow flies or is it distance by road. Are they going to google map search everyone coming in to make sure they aren't 51 km away?
  23. As I see it the key difference on permit placement is pretty straight forward. Slow down and continue or get stopped. If the permit is where it's supposed to be it's easy for the OPP or trail patrol to see and validate. You slow down and don't need to stop. If it's somewhere else, like behind the windshield pointing straight to the sky it can't be seen as you approach a check. That means you actually have to stop.
  24. The virus was and is a threat to the health of everyone. A large segment of our volunteers are "older" and part of the more vulnerable segment of the population. There is an obligation on the part of the OFSC to protect the health of the groomer operators. They are to be protected as employees and therefore subject to the same provincial regulations as any other business. They have done a lot of work to create protocols regarding club operation that complies with the provincial regulations. You can't have someone drive the groomer for X hours and then just have someone else jump in to continue for X hours without taking precautions.
