  1. From Syngenta Canada: Record Large Winter Wheat Area for Ontario Market newsDecember 08, 2022 Ontario producers have seeded a record-large area to winter wheat for harvest in 2023. Statistics Canada’s crop production report last week pegged Ontario winter wheat seeded area at 1.344 million acres, up more than 400,000 acres or 44.5% from the 930,300 acres planted in the autumn of 2021. If accurate, it would top the previous high of 1.275 million acres that were planted in the fall of 2007 for harvest in 2008.
  2. If that's the case everyone insured by TD should annually call in a good reduction for the value of their sled(s). I have always done that but have always been realistic on the value.
  3. The article went on to say that.
  4. The following is from a Canadian Press article dated April 26, 2023: Canadian farmers are expecting to plant the largest wheat crop in more than two decades this year amid strong demand for wheat. Statistics Canada said Wednesday that farmers anticipate planting 23 million acres of wheat, up 6.2 per cent from the previous year. According to the federal agency’s report on principal field crop areas, the anticipated grow this possibly due to favourable prices and strong demand for wheat.
  5. Yep, that big farmer guy is getting mucho Ontario wide exposure from that video. He did a great job in 1 take.
  6. There is no fuel station at Searchmount. The only way to get fuel there is to arrange with the gentleman at Driftwood Lodge to have some full jerry cans there for you when you arrive if he will. Its been a while since I've heard of him doing this. The fellow there to talk to is Carl. Goulais River is the closest gas ther and its about 30 km. west of Searchmout I believe.
  7. Free Weekend in Quebec is February 3 &4 this season.
  8. They should be giving you a credit as they are basically saying you ordered it but we aren't going to give it to you.
  9. Trail Patrol can't get people to tape daily permits to their windshield now so your idea would create huge problems.
  10. You are not being held at ransom! I have never paid the extra $10.00 for tracking the permit envelope and I have never had any issues with their delivery.
  11. Deleting, adding or adjusting trails on the ITG is not an issue. Each District has someone in their organization that has the ability to make whatever changes are needed to the trails in their district. In fact, in your home district the contact is very dedicated about keeping changes up to date and correct. You should get involved in your local club so that you could learn what is really going on and then when you post your spew it might reflect the reality of the time.
  12. You will likely be disappointed. I was told a week ago that our club would be picking up maps from the District in the next couple of weeks.
  13. Paper maps are still being produced and handed out at least in our district. The advertising money helps to pay some of the expenses.
  14. Yep and the advertising on the maps helps pay for club/district expenses.
  15. OFSC should at least be proactive and tell their permit purchasers why they made this decision. After all there permit purchasers are their reason for being.
  16. The OFSC has a Facebook account. If you have F/B then go on and ask the question why. They are reasonably good at quick replys especially if its being pusshed by a number of people.
  17. Wednesday Sept. 20 through Sunday Sept. 24. No HST on everything. Up to 70% of MSRP.
  18. The section of trail 5 east from 595 to 597 is the most scenic section of the north shore and should not be missed in my estimation. There are I believe 7 large mountains that you climb and crossover on this section with amazing views of the coastline and the St. Lawrence. When you come down off each mountain you will find a valley with a stream running to the coast and often a village or town at the coastline.
  19. They sure do. We found that in both Ontario and Quebec, if your sled was relatively new they would rob parts from showroom sleds to get you going. One time in Amos the dealer needed engine parts for my buddies 4 year old sled. They didn't have them but the mechanic knew a local that had a wrecked sled the same. The mechanic went that evening and got the parts needed of the wreck and had us go riding by 10 AM the next morning. My feeling is that those dealers know if they take care of transcient issues you won't go elsewhere and it's extra business for them. The locals will still be there after you're gone so they will leave a local sled for later and fix the transcient.
  20. Excellent info. Fuse6! We have always made a point of riding the trail from Murdockville to La Cache. If you happen to have a sunny morning leaving Murdockville that trail is about as picturesque as it gets. That said we have ridden it when it was a challenge with large drifts forming since the last grooming. Have ridden the road when it got too tough. I have never understood why the Quebec map doesn't put the trail # on it for that trail. I was told once that its because its considered a local trail. Poor excuse in my estimation. 595 north from LaCache is nice as well. 597 south to 5 from Murdockville is also one that should be on the plan. We would rather spend time on those interior trails than riding the south shore from Perce to Point a la Croix however if you are riding a loop you pretty much need to go through PALC to enjoy the awesome trails northwest of there like trail 587. If you feel the need to sqeeze the trigger, 597 south from 5 to Mudochville used to often be referred to as Piston Alley. Really, its all awesome unless its in a storm or just after one. We always get our rooms all booked in advance because we know where we like to stay and eat and can most often get side by side rooms that way.
  21. Good idea Stoney! So I think the first decision is usually to decide on a starting/ending point. We have started as far west as Victoriaville and at Bernieres (south shore @ Quebec City) the reason being that we don't like driving when we could be riding. For most of the trips we started in Riviere Du Loup at the Hotel Universal. They have outside sled compound as well as a truck/trailer compound and pretty much anything else you might need like gas right next door and trail out the back of the parking lot. RDL offers the opportunity to ride south and then east through some gorgeous area or east on the main trail (5) which goes all the way around Gaspe. RDL also let us spend 2 extra days riding in more scenic areas of Gaspe. The other large centre starting point would be Rimouski (a couple of hours east of RDL). Its pretty close to the junction of 5 east along the north shore and 5 west from Amqui. Personally, I would never start any further east than Rimouski. Of course, the number of days you have available to ride will have a bearing on where you might start. From our area near Kitchener Waterloo RDL is about all we want to do on a drive day. I'll leave it there for now as I'm sure others will no doubt have other start/end locations to mention.
  22. 6 days should be great for your first trip around. Enjoy!
