  3. For the vast almost all producers, fuel costs have been a significant part of increased costs/selling prices. Transportation costs have increased significantly with diesel fuel for example being as much as 50 cents a litre more than the already high cost of gasoline this fall. Just another part of the cost of pretty thing much everything we purchase.
  4. It's going to take some good frosts and lots of snow before we get riding in our area of Western Ontario. I was out earlier this week re-installing some stakes with signs attached that got blown over in the high winds we had the week before. Absolutely no frost in the ground and snow won't stay on ground with no frost in it.
  5. thanks for correcting me on that. Speeding tickets on the trail don't cross over but HTA would apply at road crossings I would think. Interestingly, a quick look at the MSVA shows nothing regarding Impaired driving so does the HTA apply on the trail for that charge?
  6. Thanks BP. That explains the snowmobile trail but I am still confused by UTS's comment "its not private if two or more people access the road, conveyance, trail etc for any reason." I have a friend who owns a cottage on a signed "private" road along lake Huron along with approx. 15 other cottage owners. They all share in the costs of maintaining the road and it is signed as being private. UTS.s comment would seem to mean it is not private as well more than 2 people use it however when I Google the definition of a private road in Ontario, the responses indicate my friend's road meets the definition. Is it a public place on a private road ?? What am I missing?
  7. If that is the case, does putting up the first sign which is a no trespassing sign on each side of the road crossings or at trail entry points make it private again?
  8. Yep you are correct Tim but all the rules of the road are also in effect on any OFSC trails I believe. Here's a definition from the criminal code: Definition of public place (2) In this section, public place includes any place to which the public have access as of right or by invitation, express or implied, and any motor vehicle located in a public place or in any place open to public view.
  9. Pretty certain that you can only have alcohol in Provincial Parks on your registered campsite. Google it and see what you find.
  10. On my laptop I noticed yesterday that a good section of local trail north from Les Escoumins has been yellow. .
  11. I was thinking that as well when I saw it was some of their A trail that was open.
  12. LOL that cuts it in half to 11.66 km of truck per km. of sled!
  13. Great news! 14. I have always made it a practice to power wash the axle and bottom of trailer off as soon as possible after using it in the winter. I also do a good wash up in the spring and spray the axle and attachments with rust protection. There might be something to using the trailer all year being good for the suspension. I take off 6 bolts on my clamshell and using 4 small winch straps, I lift the enclosure up a few inches where I park the trailer in my shed. I can then use the trailer as a utility trailer all summer. The axle is a 1997 and has yet to give any issues.
  15. Torsion axles are maintenance free. I guess that is also why they are basically non repairable. That said, like most other metal items, they don't like salt over long terms. I don't understand why they seize up as the piece that goes inside the axle shaft is mounted in rubber when new. Maybe somehow road sand or some other material has filled the voids in the axle tube or the rubber has broken down?? Lots of info if you do a Google search. Here's a pick of the inside of a torsion axle tube:
  16. I did some Google research. Toronto talked about legal drinking in parks last spring but put the decision off for a year. I could find no information on any public beaches or parks in Ontario that have legal drinking allowed.

  18. The new Canadian tractor trailer drivers find a good spot along Hwy 11 about every day in the winter.
  19. I had never heard of this in Ontario. What are some of the spots where its legal?
  20. I hope you are correct. It would be a tough sell if anything regarding ATV shows up on landowner paperwork around here.
  21. This is a great story about some hard work by club volunteers paying off. Unfortunately the OFSC has seen fit to participate in a combined MOU (agreement to allow useage) with that of the ATV association. If all OFSC clubs have to get said combined MOU signed and this club goes to the landowner in the news article with the combined MOU it will no doubt be the end of that section of snowmobile trail. JMHO.
  22. Positive in areas that have official trails for both modes. I'm not so sure it will be when dealing with farmers who let sleds use their land in the winter but want nothing to do with ATV's especially during cropping seasons. I make a point to never mention ATV's at landowner visits let alone have it in print on the permission document they are being asked to sign. It will likely be extra tough in our area where we have a lot of trail on Mennonite farmland.
