sledjunk
Putting together an unfortunately early, End Of Season Ride. Trailer to Kapuskasing Wednesday March 9, Ride Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (hopefully meet Nunz and crew and Denis007 and family at Moonbeam Clubhouse), and return home Sunday. I am not sure that we will get another weekend so this will probably be it. Anyone interested?

Techdenis007
I'm not even sure trails will be rideable by then. 4 days of plus temps this week starting tomorrow might open up waterways. Remember we have little or no frost under the snow. We're riding tonight & tomorrow, we'll see how trails look by mid week.

Techdenis007
You know what, my earlier post might have been a bit premature. We just did a little loop around to the Marina (Alexandre's first trail ride as an operator instead of a passenger) and the trails haven't been better this year. They've finally got them set up and hard, they've been groomed recently (yesterday I'd guess), just an awesome ride (a bit slow for my liking, the first ride with the lad ..) We're heading out again tomorrow, will post a conditions report on here, and I'll be sure to sample them mid-week in the warm spell.

Techdenis007
Trails again were mint today, despite a good bit of traffic. Did the L159 loop and back via the A. 170 km over 2 days on 1 tank of fuel on all 3 sleds. I'm kind of impressed ... This is to be expected everywhere, just wanted to show you what the mild temps will do with little to no frost in the ground ... this was at the highway crossing of the A coming into town..... it was only about 4 degrees at the warmest it got today... still above freezing with a bit of sticky snow. Techdenis007
Little update for the Hearst area. It started with freezing rain yesterday, then in the evening it turned to freezing pouring rain with lightning, everything is basically a block of ice outside. It'll probably end up being the worst freezing rain event I've seen yet. Although there don't seem to be any highways closed yet, just wait until the accidents start happening. Basically they were calling for rain and warming to +7 overnight then cooling during the day, but that didn't happen, it just hung around -1 then plunged to -9 before I got up. So now I've got a skating rink instead of a patio. Should have brought the car into the garage last night, it would have been 1 less iceberg in the yard to scrape off ... Might go for a spin tonight and check trail conditions.
revrnd
Trails in good shape from Moonbeam to Opaz'. Rode the L123 & A out to Opaz' & gassed up. L123 as great but no video due to operator error (I haven't used the GoPro since the 2012 Northern Blastoff). Met quite a large group of sleds on L123 really making time. Headed back on TOP A w/ a little side trip on L147S to get back to Kap'. Had lunch @ Papa Francos. Back east thru Kap on decent snow & headed SE on L139 & L141. Met the grromer on L123 west of Meilleur Lake. Thumbs up! Contined onto the Moonbeam portion of L123 until L129 and did that loop for the 1st time. Lots of moose tracks down there. Rode back up thru Moonbeam and back onto TOP A. A coulple of thin spots on the Moobeam portion of TOP A, but smooth. TOP A west of Remi Lake was in good shape. 138 miles for the day. Got the GoPro figured out tonight so hopefully some videos tomorrow. WEds' was pretty depressing, after a sunny start in Apsley, the rain started in Carnarvon. Met up w. Sledjunk & ApeXMan in Huntsville. Past North Bay the road crossings looked pretty bad for snirt. Ponds & marshes are starting to water up on TOP A. Other than watch Sledjunk's taillights I was watching for a friend that has a dedicated run between NB & Timmins. Met him south of Latchford but I don't think he has a CB in this truck. Called him later & chatted on the phone. Some sled traffic around Kap', 7 other sleds staying @ the Super 8. We didn't drive out of the rain & FOG until north of Earlton. By the time we got to Cochrane the temp had dropped below freezing.
revrnd
Nice & sunny today. Got a touch warmer this afternoon. 210 klicks for the day. Left Kap & headed up to the Beardmore & Nursery loops. Chatted w/ a couple of Arctic Riders volunteers north of Fauquier. Head a ways south on the old TOP A (L113) then came back TOP A to Moonbeam for lunch. Met up w/ Lep, his daughter & friend of Lep's. Dropped down to Moonbeam to gas & popped down to the L123 & ran it west to the TOP jct near Opaz'. Back to the motel in Kap'. NW corner of the Beardmore Loop looking west Looking south on the Beardmore Loop TOP A north of Fauquier ApeXMAN & Sledjunk stopped on TOP A Ugly paint schemes in Moonbeam Dave & Dean getting ready to leave the clubhouse Stopped on L123 SW of Kap' West end of L123 near Opaz' Self explanatory

revrnd
No mishaps. Helped 2 guys getba sled out of the tag alders south of Moonbeam below L123 this afternoon on our way back to Kap.. Met up w/ Nunz & Karen @ the Moonbeam clubhouse. Rode up to the Beardmore Loop and down part of Remi Lake. Denis 007 & his son came over to have lunch w/ us. Talking to a couple of chaps from Ptbo. 1 recognised me & the other feloow knew my brother. Nunz & Karen gassed up then headed back to Cochrane. Sledjunk, ApeXMAN and I did the "upper" loop south of Moonbeam & then headed back to Kap'. The locals are watching the weather & next weekend might be OK. Trails were getting pretty mushy. Bare spots showing up on TOP A east of Gaston's.
revrnd
400 miles for the 3 days of riding. A positive end to a crummy season.
Blake G
Here's a video from my ride yesterday, Saturday, March 12, 2016, near Kearney. I am posting this in case you are looking for something to do today. An excellent spring conditions ride, thanks to adequate snow cover and persistent grooming by Highland Rovers. They have no plans for further grooming this season. Found some dog sled teams sharing the D102B - - they're in another video that I haven't posted. If anyone wants to take advantage of this riding before it disappears, go to the east edge of Kearney on Rain Lake Road, then park and unload on Pine Drive near Echo Ridge Road. Ride east on D, south on D101B to D102B, east to 95, and then north on 95. When you get into the bad snirt and road running before Bay Lake, turn around and retrace to your unloading location. Round trip is about 100 km, so you might want to repeat. If you are the adventurous type, you will also find some ungroomed logging roads worth investigating (crown land). The video is 7 minutes long and a little boring if you are looking for anything other than an old guy enjoying himself on a Polaris 550 fan. Only you can decide if you should you tell any non-OCERS about these trails. Edited March 13, 2016 by Blake G
revrnd
Some pics from Sat': Anyone need a soup bone? "Playground" @ the intersection of TOP A & L125 (Beardmore Loop) NE of Kap: Another ugly paint scheme from BRP: The gang @ Moonbeam: Denis and Alexandre playing the interested bystanders: Leaving For the Moonbeam gas station: On the L123 just north of Moonbeam: This was stiff in the morning. Quite a wave of slush when Seldjunk & ApeXMAN went thru: On the L129 (South Loops) near Moonbeam: Just south of L123 on the Loop when we were on our way back to L123 we helped 2 guys get a sled out of the tag alders. The rider that was stuck said it was like riding on mashed potatoes. L123 wasn't quite as soft, but Meilleur Lake where the Kap' & Moonbeam clubs meet was sludhy. Remi Lake was quite slushy. Denis said it had been like that all season. Good to finally meet Dave & Dean.
