zoso Posted February 5, 2014 Share Posted February 5, 2014 There is heavy equipment on the trail that Leads to Bobs Petro Canda on highway 17 in coniston, access via the OFSC trail is no longer allowed due to a risk the contractor and landowner will not assume at this time. A trail has been broken through from the other side and you catch it from the trail that leads from the Moonlight Inn and the Chateau Guay Motel, marked as 85 and open on the IA map This trail connects to D trail between Coniston and Garson. The trail we broke open today gives access to the gas station. It is rough, has a well drifted in sidehill that will become better with traffic, but is easily passable. This is not an OFSC trail, it is not signed, is marked by orange ribbons as there are other tracks up on the hill. Also Bob will be putting a sign indicating that gas is available. Use at your own risk, no clubs, the STP or the OFSC has anything to do with this trail. The trail on the map is red is the ofsc trail, on the bottom left is the location of the motels, to the north is D into garson, and to the far right is D into coniston, the trail to Bobs service center is light blue. Usually stay in that end of town in Sudbury, so knowing the alternative trail might come in handy - although, couldn't find the other established trail last visit ! AC+YA Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 Yes it is and the only good thing about the change in the route is that it now dumps out 12 miles from 3 bears, but is farther when you turn east to Auld Reekie by about 20 klicks. That puts it at about 70 klicks to Auld Reekie from the intersection. The map does not show where the actual trails run in that part of Ontario. The map never seems to update as trails change! Rode through there 2 days ago; from where C, A107C and Sandy Lake Road intersect it's 20 miles to 3 Bears on Sandy Lake Road and 32 miles to Aulde Reekie. We rode from Gowganda Lake Camp to Rockies - 115 miles. There were 3 of us; 1 Arctic Cat, 1 Polaris, and a Ski Doo, all mileages were very close.
