  1. Just bought a Ford Ranger, if you are looking for a mid sized truck, have nothing but good things to say about the truck so far
  2. Yeah....that didn't stop them, they are doing the same deal tomorrow to Remi Lake
  3. My buddies are in Cochrane right now, rode to SRF and said things were decent but not great, but that is to be expected.
  4. I went up over Christmas/New years a few times and will never do it again, unless they get 3 feet of snow, even at that, the sheer volume of sleds will beat the trails up so bad you will not enjoy it all that much. Wait until early/mid Jan if you can. To trailer from the GTA and stay 3 nights will cost you a G note all day long, to ride yellow trails is a waste IMO, but I also understand the itch to get out. I personally shift my big trips to end of Feb or early March, when you have pretty much guaranteed great trails.
  5. We did Kap last year and will go back again, the ride to Hearst and beyond is really good, Cochrane is a sh*t show early in the season. Cedar Meadows is awesome right on the C trail. Depends on how the temps and snowfall is early on for Timmins so I would be careful riding out of there. Honestly wait a week or two and go mid Jan, way better conditions usually.
  6. It was a really good season for sure thanks for all the informative posts really helped make some good decisions this year. I feel rather bored now though, no more searching weather updates every 30 min looking for the best conditions. Although I did 50km on my road bike today, so that was a first for this time of year. Only 278 more days until winter.....
  7. We were at the L163/L165 split and decided to do the western loop and it was awesome as well, maybe have to loop back tomorrow and try the L159
  8. Did just under 300km today, great loops in and around Kap and Hearst, the L155 and the L123 were mint, great conditions and great scenery. I may have found my new favorite riding area....
  9. Just arrived in Kap 130 am Fri, now I guess. The comfort Inn is decent and you can park in front of your room. Damn that was a long drive.....
  10. They charged us $119/night at the Comfort Inn, wont get there until late Thursday but forecast is looking ok for Kap and west
  11. Loading the sleds and rig Wed night, we are Kap bound on Thursday.....
  12. We are heading north on Thursday, I have rooms booked in Timmins and as well in Kap, so will decide where we stage out of but it sounds like Kap may be the answer....I don't want to trailer 7 hrs to ride marginal trails.
  13. 23k for a sled....seriously? I thought 17-18k was getting a bit stupid. I guess the supply and demand curve is on the side of the OEM's, I could never spend that on a 2-3 month a year hobby as much as I love riding
  14. If you stage out of Timmins you can leave your rig at Cedar Meadows, but you will need to stay there for a night or two, call ahead and ask what their policies are. We did it two years ago with no issues
  15. Sadly I have the wrong genetics as this is my 7th stone. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, it is brutal. A 25mm stone that sounds like trouble...lol my largest was 13mm. I had my first attack about 15 min before I was to board a plane home from Vegas, the first time is the worst because you really think you are going to die. Look up Ureteral stent as if the stone is not bad enough, now I have to deal with this.....ugh
  16. It was a big dip on the trail, right at dusk and it was snowing a bit, caught us both off guard. Sometimes the sunlight/clouds can give you a false sense of what is ahead of you
  17. I got a unique birthday present last Sunday in the form of 9x5mm kidney store, needless to say it put a damper on my riding plans (and everything else) this past week. Had laser surgery this am, so hope to be out by the end of the week, forecast looks awesome this week so looking to put on some serious km's to make up for the lost time in the seat. As well last Sat had a close call with with my daughter as she hit a compression bump and was thrown from the sled, luckily it was in an area with not trees, just some tall grass. She was shaken up, and this was a good wake up call as to how dangerous sledding can be, even when you are not driving crazy fast. Had some cosmetic damage to the Cat, need a new windshield and a RH side panel for a 2017 ZR6000 if anyone has anything that they are looking to sell. Thx
  18. Looks like the forecast is changing for the better, most areas from Toronto to Ottawa should get 5-10 Friday and a few more on the weekend
  19. Yeah great day for riding, my daughter had a PA day today, so we did the same loop after work for a night ride, the C was a mogul fest north of Elmvale, otherwise pretty decent conditions. Lesson learned never ride on a Monday before the groomers get a chance to get out
  20. Chip off the ol' block as they say....nice to have riding partner with your kid, she loves getting out, too bad with all the restrictions this year as we have met so many great people and seen a lot of cool places, she really enjoys that part of sledding. We met this couple last year at the Mica mine heading towards Mattawa, then we saw them at the Tim Hortons, and we sat and chatted with them and had a great time. Little life experiences that mean a lot when you look back at them
  21. My daughter made a video of the day, turned out pretty cool, the digital speedo was a generic add on she grabbed off the net, she wasn’t doing 120mph lol.
  22. Thanks to Blake for the great info on this area, we rode the loop from Orillia to Midland and back down. Overall really good shape except the B close to Orillia was beat to a pulp. First time up that way and it was a really nice ride, especially liked driving in and around Midland, some nice trails and views of the bay. Unfortunately we came across an accident today on the B, NW of Orillia, they were loading someone into the ambulance so hopefully they are not too badly hurt, the sled had some pretty good front end damage. I have an 1100 Turbo and it is tuned, just an Eco trail, but it was gutless after 80km/hr, got home and checked it and the charge tube had disconnected, I knew something was up as my arms were not getting pulled out of the sockets. My daughter was behind me crossing Lake Couchiching, and was complaining why I was going so slow, maybe have to go back and stretch out the arms a bit....
