Definitely not your club. I can honestly say I see your groomer more when out riding than any other groomer.

Well, I'll stick with my comment. You probably don't remember before the MTO involvement when the OFSC was paying 8 million dollars for insurance. If the OFSC was to dissolve that relationship what would insurance cost now for the proper coverage? There is little to no hope that even with permit increases the OFSC could afford it without a lot of government dollars and that is also not likely to happen in my opinion.
-
Based on what you have stated, it would seem that the OFSC could not get along without the tie in to the MTO from both a cost of insurance basis as well as the additional safety features and work that would be required to keep liability to a minimum.

I can't help you out with that but I'm sure someone else can. We only went in to Perce on our first trip in 1996. Trail was awfully rough going in, hotel with reservation was closed when we got there and trail was rougher leaving to get back out to the 5 the next morning. Decision for future visits was unanimous.

I'm not sure where you were riding last year and would like you to tell us where "they weren't groooming until the end of the week".
-
We have ridden that stretch to the Riotel 4 different years. There was only once that it didn't hurt. That time it was storming so bad both ways that we were more concerned about seeing where we were going than worrying about the carbides. Last 2 years we stayed at the Quality Inn.

Welcome aboard Mapguy! Look forward to reading your posts.

The only factor you didn't include is the number of marginal riders who would not buy at full pop. There may not be many of those in Muskoka but I belive it would be a signifigant number in Southern Ontario. Afterall their chance of getting caught free riding is almost nil.

I heard some news today that our district had extremely good early permit sales. 6+ weeks of snow last year must trump loosing trails this year.
-
And yet they had a 5 million dollar shortfall for the year. How can this happen when there a lot of money (guesstimate 2 million) distributed to districts/clubs "to dispose of"? Could that money not have been used to reduce the shortfall? Maybe someone with more business accumin than I have can explain it.

Trails are open every day normally until the season is over.
-
Agreed but I believe it is far more than a possibility that remaining trails will see higher traffic. The statistics person should have received a briefing regarding what would happen and non use of the app by many many riders. I have ridden with a group where only one person uses the app. Another group I ride with doesn't use the app because we have ridden the northern trails enough that we know where we are going and what to expect for the mostpart. The remaining trails are going to need a lot more grooming or many riders will not be buying permits for the 2026/2027 season. Interestingly, the parallel trail our club deleted this season was originally put in place to cut down the amount traffic on the main trail. We just could't get ahead of the roughness with the volume on the single trail.

I wonder if this clown did any research on this or just came up with this opportunity to get politically noticed all on his own.

Atta boy! Good thing you bragged about it or we never would have known.

After my last post I went looking for OFSC contact info. I came up with the following: Head office emails are the first name initial, followed by last name, followed by @ofsc.on.ca. The following link is a page which includes pictures and names of the OFSC executives. https://www.ofsc.on.ca/leadership/ All this info. is on the OFSC website. Hope this helps.
