  1. also, static build up of plastic tanks, and one grounded touch, could discharge static... and poof! now you got a FIRE! in the states cans have to be on the ground, out of the auto/trailer. Ski
  2. my thoughts on fuel doors is, just another hole to leak, rust, rot, corrode. like sunroofs in autos... my dad used to say, if you dont want your roof to leak, dont cut a hole in it. Ski
  3. congrats cookster! look forward to your updates on the happenings at your cochrane places. Ski
  4. Beck's trailer is THE sales portal for Legend trailers, around here. (less than 20 miles from me). the family happens to own legend trailer mfg too. there are retailers obviously, around north america too. i have had a Legend since 2008 (same one). have had a few problems over the years but, being local, and loyal, they have taken care of us, and the trailer VERY WELL! Their motto is "Buy it for looks, keep it for life" and as long as you keep up on the maintenance, it is the truth. Ski
  5. we were asked several times, in multiple areas in algoma/superior north areas. always enjoyed helping, early brushing, signing, and reporting to the club what to expect. Ski
  6. but, 10-20 dripping wet balaclavas, helmets, and gloves drying, around a heating apparatus, with fan, ventilation blowing it around doesnt concern anyone? does anyone see the flaw in this thinking? especially the "follow the science" people, govt entities that WILL BE MAKING CHANGES TO HOW WE MOVE FORWARD, etc...? it is so weird to see people swing so far, from one side to the other with this. Ski
  7. what do you think you guys are going to doo, with your balaclavas, helmets, at stops? Ski
  8. we had the same forecast Ox, the storm tracked way to our south and east. we didnt even get any to cover the grass. going to be sunny and 35-40F for the next 14 days. going to be a late start in the south again. Ski
  9. i can remember katie doing the same. scared she was going to break her neck, with it flopping around. I am sure you are very proud of her, and Graham. they both turned out to be great people. shows their mom and dad did it right! when school is over, she will be able to take care of herself financially for the rest of her life, without depending on someone else. that is all we as parents can hope for. proud to call you all friends! Ski
  10. this will be a great upgrade for dub, the last few years, after retiring the new holland's and the big drag... the drag they had the last few years, was too light for the purpose, geography/terrain. then by adding the brush bar, it helped to trim the edges but, it unbalanced the drag, making the outside edge of the drag too light. this created a lot of issues for the operators, and the final product wasnt as nice as years gone by... and the groomed trail did not last as long as the heavier balanced drag, groomed trails, we had in the past. my hat is off to the ofsc, district 13, and all the volunteers for making this happen. here's hoping we can see it's use soon. Ski
  11. RAM mounts, pick one that works for your application. tough as nails! Ski
  12. nice! good for you and your father! Ski
  13. same lake 2 names, really. spread out over a large area like dog. manitouwik, side is closer to hawk, whitefish side goes toward 101. Ski
  14. well... now we know, waterfall with a dam. whodathunk? Ski
  15. i have the in reach mini (havent used yet, sitting in the garage in Dub), have the garmin etrex vista (older tracks), and a new garmin ST64 (older and new stuff). on the 2 gps units, i have the backwoods mapping ontario updated recreational maps, which has JUST ABOUT EVERY MUD PUDDLE, AND CRICK NAME, and an accurate topo map too boot. after jan 31, i have little to no fear of the hard water, after being up there enough and "knowing where to go, and WHERE NOT TO GO. wish i knew marc better, only met him a couple times, he doesnt know me from adam. i am semi retired so... i can go at a moments notice Ski
  16. i have been on that site of the pic, MANY TIMES. the narrows really "dont connect" manitouwik (whitefish lake), with dog lake. when i looked at it (in the back ground on the pic), it was really rocky, and then closed off to the bush anyway. the portage is about 2kms, if you are the first ones through, you better have a chainsaw, or prepare to have to make a "new trail" around the downed timber... been there done that too. i wouldnt do dog lake, or manitouwik, unless you had a gps track, or it was a bluebird day, and there were already tracks on the route, IF YOU DONT KNOW THE AREA WELL. manitouwik is easy, it is straight south down the water to the exit (or entrance) at hawk, just look for the GREAT BIG WALL. dog lake, is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT MONSTER, IT IS HUGE, WITH FINGERS, AND BAYS EVERYWHERE. lots of slush (overflow) too. like Ox says, if you have the opportunity the route is pretty cool. you ride trail from dub, to dog lake like you are going to ernies, then peel off south to the portage (not marked or staked, or signed) i have it gps'd... then down manitouwik, to the bluff, pick up the trail for a couple clicks, and it puts you on the D trail at the power transfer station in hawk. you could actually run water from just south of hearst, all the way to wawa, if you know the route. oba lake or kabinakigami, esnagi, or wabatongushi, dog lake, to manitouwik, to hawk lake, to wawa lake. it can be done, the Hearst guys do it regularly. i have been on about 70% of it but, dont know the furthest north spots and my contacts wont tell anyone the rest of the route. when we can go across ox, I WANT TO DO THIS!!! My bucket list ride would be, put my boot in lake superior at sandy beach in wawa, and ride to James Bay, and stand on the ice, or put my boot in if it isnt frozen. you in? Ski
  17. Cochrane to Hearst for day one, Hearst to dub/wawa day two, dub/wawa to chapleau via halfway haven day 3, timmins on day 4, or push on to cochrane, and avoid day five, or add a side trip on day five to the canyon. Ski
  18. TD, Ken is ONE HELL OF A COOK! the burgers are as good or better than Ernie's and that says A LOT. HUGE PORTIONS, you will not leave hungry. you will leave uncomfortable, looking for a place close by to take a nap. Ski
  19. i would check what "food available" actually means, before booking. one thing to remember here... the closest places to eat off site, will be the big bear, ernies (if he opens amdist covid), or wawa. it does give you more options for lodging in the wawa area, and we will need it. the hotels, motels will be FULL with workers most/all of the winter. Ski
  20. proprietary information, you gotta pay, to play. maybe that will help the ofsc for funding more groomers, or trail updates. they are a non profit, the money from polaris ride command, and brp go, could be helpful for our trails. Ski
  21. hahahaha ask Matt17 about the "railcar bridge" going into Ice lake in hornepayne. we used to drive the truck and boat/trailer over it to get to the fish. Ski
  22. we have 2018 XF High Country's medium green is what we used. if you are FB friendly, you could ask the same question on the arctic cat trail riders page. Ski
  23. you need to get the locals on board, then you can expand to the tourists, then add loop options. going full bore will only get us back to where it all started, too big too fast, not enough funding or volunteer, or operator help... then burn out happens. Ski
  24. one at a time, see if it is viable first. Ski
