  1. Instantly deep! Note: The Township is now heavily sanding the streets. Going to O'Mavrik' (Luc's old quickie mart) will be painful by sled. Using the trail north of the fuel stop, and the "alley" between the trail and houses, will cut out a lot of dirty riding, to get to the hotel. Using the river and trail vs town streets will be better, to access the pub/resto, lcbo, hardware, and grocery store. Ski
  2. @Dan-Senior we drove through the Soo today, they have February depth snow, right now! it is crazy what you guys have. Along the same token... we shoveled out the house in Dub when we arrived tonight... We have February snow depth too. usually I dont start level shoveling from the deck, off to yard snow depth but, this day, was the day. front deck is level with snow depth, back deck is above deck. we did get some freezing rain north of Wawa, into Dub tonight. seems to have switched over to snow but, who knows for how long. if you are looking for something to do, we are here until Sunday morning. Ski
  3. forecasting rain, mixed and above freezing for a week starting next week. here comes the see saw winter. ride safe, ride as often as you can, when you can. Ski
  4. Why? stop corrosion and seizing brakes, making things work better, last longer? Ski
  5. Cold and a nasty west wind, off the unfrozen lake,s will result in some outstanding snowfall amounts in the next 7 to 10 days. we are supposed to go up for the holiday but, we are forecast for over a foot in central michigan, and with the winds, and roads, guessing it will be near impossible to get up 17, or even 129 and 101. I am watching it, and will make a game day call but, it is looking like we will be stuck in michigan until at least the 27th or so. Ski
  6. thank you for the updates dan! with any luck, we are heading up, to help open the trails this weekend and into new years week. Ski
  7. take them apart and hit them with anti seize to protect the adjuster. also, the backing plate, springs etc... with fluid film or the like. spray everything but the shoes and inside drums. it will help them last. Ski
  8. U.P. of Michigan clubs are reporting all kinds of wet, swampy areas with pics of water/mud holes, and tow truck personnel summoned to retrieve sleds from said holes. need cold, ice, and frost to freeze up the holes. Ski
  9. Dexter is the benchmark, in the industry. food for thought. buy once, cry once. then protect with krown, fluid film, wool wax, or the new kid on the block in lanolin protection, Surface shield from PB Blaster. Ski
  10. Cochrane, will be over-run, for xmas-new year. stay far away! it is early, I know people are itching. just wait, save your vacation time, budget for lodging, fuel, and spare parts for better days, and conditions. once we started riding in ontario, I stopped worrying about riding early, knowing we were going to ride later than just about everyone else, with less people, and a lot better snow, and trail conditions. Ski
  11. Lots of cold temps, and a little snow here and there, is helping out. No chance trails will open for Christmas or New years, here, at this time. Ski
  12. In my opinion... the same amount you would buy, at HH to make it to either wawa or searchmont. anything less, and you may put yourself in a pickle. personally, I am not willing to take the gamble in there, with running out of fuel. yes, I know some of the latest gen 4strokes can make it with less than 3 gallons but, I know our 2018 800 2t sleds cannot. I know some of the shortcuts but, not like scott @AC+YA so, I wouldnt try this with our group. your results may vary. For the time you spend driving from the soo, to searchmont (about 40 minutes, or so, one way) you could be in wawa, in 90 more minutes, and start there. supposedly they are utilizing a shorter route to get to Chapleau, from Wawa, to keep that side of the loop "do-able". 13. Costa Rica was great! Snow, ice is getting there, now in Dub. Notice the street pics... sanded town streets now. Ski
  14. Still thin but, whiter. River fully refroze again. Cold temps forecast, will help firm things up. Off to Costa Rica, for dirt biking Tuesday. Ski
  15. again with the broad brush... Tacoma owner here too. way more jeep people doing the terrible off-roading. Ski
  16. if you are putting heat in, you wont need the rubber. the floor will be damp at best, and dry for the most part within a day or two. highly recommend a smart stat so you can turn the heat on and off and monitor it from home. then you can turn it on before arrival, and leave it on until the floor is dry a day or two after you leave. going that route the floor will dry out weekly. Ski
  17. Snow and ice taking a beating. Going to be over 40 f today... going to get worse, before it gets better. Ski
  18. this is what we do as well. if you have power in the garage, throw a 220v "milk barn heater" and or infrared style heater(s), in the garage. depending on the size, all you really have to do is get the space above 35f, and things will get soft, and melt off. nothing like having clean dry sleds each morning to ride. We have 3 small heaters in our small 12x24 garage, I turn them on the second we get there, and turn them off as we leave from our stay. I can get it as warm as 70 in there, if I want/need. Usually I shoot for about 50-55. I have one 220 heater mounted near the ceiling with the fan. I have a 110v infrared heater mounted mid way down one long wall, and one small space heater on the floor, mid way down the opposite long wall. once you melt things out, and then turn the heat off, the cold will usually evaporate the little water that was left from the previous nights melt off. I have had up to 5 or 6 sleds in the garage at night, and the floor may be damp, but, not water or ice covered by any means. the last night of our stay, the sleds go into the garage, the next morning (our departure morning), I go out, the sleds are mostly melted out, I spray the entire rear and front suspensions, inc the drive axles, idler wheels, rails, track clips, with wd40, (it is MADE for this), to disperse water. then I top off the oil, fuel, give them a good once over, so I know, when we return to ride again, the sleds are ready to roll out of the garage, and ready for anything we are to do with them. It really only takes a few minutes to do this but, it adds so much more life to your sleds. stops rust in its tracks, lets you visually inspect the whole sled to find issues, before they strand you, and just gives you the peace of mind, you will (should) have an uneventful mechanical experience, your next trip. just consider it, a labor of love. 19. yep, if you have ever filled out the Arrive Can Ap (not mandated at this time, now) they already have your vax status on the border crossing doc list, that they track you on. they have a written tracking online for every border crossing you have made in the last 20 years (or more). that is why they ask, when was the last time you crossed, they ask you where you are going, and when you are coming back. they look for inconsistencies in your trips, stories, claims of what you are getting, or brining, going to/from with you etc... when they see a pattern, or a inconsistency, it gives them "grounds" for a secondary search. your results may vary. they scan your license plate and track that as well. they know who owns, or drives certain plated vehicles, this lines up with the passport, or ID provided at the window. they know who should be in that auto, prior to you even getting to the window. 20. Nope, thank your boy JB, for announcing the pandemic was over, then not following through to remove the restrictions. Ski (FJB)
