my season used to be mostly day or weekend trips in and around here, it was my passion for the season and what I looked forward too so much in the winter - if there was a weekend missed of riding, I was very disappointed, when it seemed like we had good winters.
Now it is going on a saddlebag trip or trips, that use to be northern ON only that switched to ON and QC, now mostly QC since it is normally the most consistent, with a bit of local riding here or there when time and conditions permit it.
I’d imagine it won’t be long before your son and you are able to do those saddle bag trips, if it interests you both, and the up and down seasons around these parts that we have become accustomed too won’t bug you as much and take too much wind out of the sail.
Try it, ripping up and down lake is similar to riding in my farm fields. Fun first hour or so then it gets boring. More fun going some where and seeing different scenery. The second I have to ride like this I am out. Only January I am 400 kms ahead of last year.
I don’t think it’ll be closed for a few weeks. storms come outta nowhere and by looking at the forecast, the cold temps and snow should open things back up fairly soon. Just my opinion though. Some areas are definitely starting over though, other areas just need the base to refreeze which it will, and then a top up of snow.
We’ll all be out riding again before we know it.
With these regular patterns of up and down, start, stop, start over etc, it really does make the idea of finding an old greasy big bore triple for ripping around on the lakes make some sense.
going fast is fun, wide open lake space is great for that stuff and we always get ice, good or bad winter.
