Is there any gas or a restaurant at Foleyet?

Any more news on the F trail south of Chapleau to Aubrey?

Talked with Flame Lake Resort and it is going to take lots more snow to start the opening process. I keep waiting for it.

Rev already answered the Foleyet gas and the possible moosland to eat, but there may be another diner in town, but do not know anymore?

Corrie, just a heads up C101F is the trail that passes thru Foleyet, not TOP F.

Anyone have the latest on "F" from Aubrey Falls to Chapleau? We're hoping to ride it in a couple of weeks.

Snow seemed down a bit in Chapleau from a couple weeks back. Maybe the rains? Look under the Sault Conditions and Dan Senior talked about the Aubrey Falls end.

I think they are waiting for more snow and then it may be too late to open? I wish it would open!

Last weekend, we measured 18" of snow on the "F" Trail north of Aubrey Falls. Even with 18", we could still feel the boulders underneath the tracks. Obviously, some rough terrain in spots and this certainly makes sense as to why the Chapleau Grooming team needs more snow on this trail. We are planning to go back this Sunday morning, park at Aubrey Falls and attempt to go north on the "F" again and do our volunteer duty of clearing along the way. Our turn-around will be when the fuel tanks reach the 1/2 mark.

Three weeks ago, we measured 12" of snow at Aubrey, so the white stuff is accumulating.

Last weekend, we also noticed the groomer came in from the Bruce Mines / Echo Bay side and groomed right to the door of the Aubrey Falls Trading Post.

I see that the D106 trail connecting the D to the F from Hyw 17 near Echo Bay to Aubrey Falls is now open on the map.

Sally is up at Aubrey Falls on weekends and you can get food this weekend at the "Aubrey Falls Trading Post" (Feb. 10th-11th-12th).

Update: Sally said they will be open every weekend from this point forward for the remaining part of winter.

We cleared brush, trees and logs on the Chapleau F yesterday, north of Aubrey Falls and the good news is that the groomer has made it through from Chapleau to Aubrey Falls.

We certainly give the operator(s), their team and the Chapleau Club tremendous credit and appreciation for attempting to get this rigorous trail open. Its such a long haul for the operator sitting in that groomer and of course the wear-and-tear the operator and machinery take as well.

The trail is packed with groomer tracks, but not groomed. At least that is what we seen on the Aubrey Falls end of the trail. Not sure what the north end is like. There's some good spots and some spots not so good, due to the lack of snow, like a swamp about 20 miles north of Aubrey Falls, close to Murray Lake.

Put lots of wax on your snowmobile cab if you don't want your paint scratched as there are some spots on the trail with plenty of brush overgrowth.

Dan, how deep was the water/mud @ that swamp? I don't mind a bit of water...

Revrnd,

The first part of the swamp is shallow, maybe 8" of water, however once you are on the hump, the 2nd crossing was closer to 12" and keeping the skis above the ice ridge when getting to the other side could be a challenge. We took the left side instead, which was shallower and no ice edge to deal with.

So, If riding north, take the left part of the swamp once you get onto the hump. You will notice the groomer went through on the right side to avoid some palettes and what looks like a make-shift bridge which is mostly washed away and is now more of a hindrance than a benefit.

Our return trip was a different route, by cutting across to the Aubinadong River, via Mountain Ash Lake, we then headed south along the scenic Aubinadong River Canyon to the Domtar Road, then onto the Ranger Lake road shoulder back to Aubrey Falls.

Although the return trip distance was further, the time was faster, based on good logging roads. The only issue is the absence of the Aubinadong River Bridge, so there is a water crossing.

Thank you guys for helping out. every bit helps, saves us groomer operators from gettting in and out.... Scott (AC+Ya) helped us our on the F trail, our chain saw broke so we could not do the last part but when he came by on his sled he cut the brushand trees in the trail.
