1st ride of the season for us in Sault Ste. Marie.  A good start to winter and very close to last year's timeline.

The Snow-map for north of Sault Ste. Marie is way off this year, by at much as 50%.  We were sledding in 42cms of snow.

Heading back out again this weekend to a different location.

My write-up of our recent snowmobile trip to the Searchmont region of Algoma Country.  Typical early December snow in Algoma.

Updates

Searchmont took an absolute beating today!  It rained in the Sault, but poured heavily at Searchmont and surrounding area.  The snow level has dropped to about 1/3 of what we had earlier this week and dropped 40% since yesterday.  This morning, we sledded north for about 25 kms beyond Searchmont and it was still pouring up there.  We then sledded back south to the trucks and arrived at 3 pm to a parking lot that was down to gravel.  If anyone is thinking about coming up this weekend, forget it.  We did spot a huge trailer full of sleds in Searchmont, but not sure what direction they were heading as it appeared, they were looking for snow.

A photo I snapped this afternoon while up along the ACR railway.

In case you are wondering, the Inspection Service Car just went by, so, they are monitoring the tracks.  There is no train haulage this winter (as of current)

Searchmont Today

The rain turned into a downpour.  That sled trailer in front of us was looking for snow as well.

Ski / Ox,

We just need to get over this hurdle to preserve what's still left up there.

North of Sault - Updates

Were still sledding north of the Sault in our Cherry-picked remote locations, but that's coming to an end this weekend.

Merry Christmas

Some Algoma Bush Crawling yesterday with the early-season beater sled.  Snow is getting thin.  The party is over for now!

Another Day....Another Ride

One of my Bush-Crawling buddies messaged me last night.  Said he was heading out this morning into the remote highlands north of the Sault with truck and sled in-tow.  He's good at sniffing snow locations as he knows the back-country very well.  I suspect he will do ok today....I await his report.

I did however see there is now premium fuel in Searchmont. although that will help with the situation, for looping around the Sault area. It will still be approx 160 miles to wawa via trail, and 140-150 to Chapleau. But, still good news. Ski
