  1. It’s going to very hard for me to buy something to replace my viper. 14,000kms now and has been great, I did buy it new though in 2018 for $15k. But I can’t keep riding 2up with the wife. Too hard on the back.
  2. That’s the other thing I forgot to mention and you said it, no new gauge etc. asking too much money for too little offering…
  3. I hear that 600 doo engine is very good. I actually know a guy with around 20,000km on it and it’s never been opened up. wife hates the colour yellow, so it would need to be wrapped. Might have to find a set of good shocks for it as I’m hearing the suspension is pretty junky, but for an $11k dollar sled I don’t expect high end parts or accessories. So by the time I’m done wrapping it, getting some decent shocks and accessories for it, it might end up being a $15k sled… seems like nowadays all you have to do is buy something (which is supposed to be a depreciation asset) and then you can resell it a year later and make money off it or at the very least get your money back!
  4. I gotta say firstly, I think cat has done a pretty good job on their new catalyst sled lineup, but the pricing is a bit nuts imo. Even on the old platform they went up quite a bit. Pricing is out on the website now for all to see. Cats are usually a bit cheaper than Yamahas, so this is a good indicator for what the pricing will be like on the new Yamahas. just some quick pricing…. $27,500 +++ for a ZR9000 $20,600 +++ for a ZR7000 $17,250 +++ for new ZR600 catalyst base model $19,125 +++ for new ZR600 catalyst w/atac $20,125 +++ for new ZR600 R-XC As much as I think it will be a great sled, too much money just to get the wife out. Now I’m back to Polaris, we’ll see what they have to offer on Monday for the 600 class. worst case scenario…I may have to lower my standards and get a renegade sport hahahaha! Sorry to all you doo owners. I actually hear it’s a pretty good economy sled, just that the suspension sucks. The price of the renegade sport 600 is more realistic to get my wife out, but still afraid of the “get what you pay for” so to speak. I know prices have increased all across the economy, but I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around $20k plus for a sled these days. And to to think the turbo sleds are $30k??? Just because the money is there, doesn’t mean people are going to spend it.
  5. We haven’t had consistent cold this year, even in a good winter there’s always a risk, this winter has been far from good. Like others have said…wouldn’t even be considering it.
  6. I personally think the 3 colours is great. Obviously we need red, yellow needs to be there to warn everyone know there could be hazards such as washouts, low snow areas, rocks poking through, icy corners etc. green we all know as good or very good, but just because they’re green you still need to ride with caution. When the wife and I were up in Kearney last weekend, they were listed as yellow because they had a lot of rain and then the trail base turned to ice basically and then they received about 5” of snow right after. The trails IMO were green, they were the best trails I’ve ridden all season, but there was still the odd icy corner and rock poking through. Yellow is definitely needed. Clubs need to pay attention to the weather and current conditions, assess trails when needed and make good judgment calls. Im not 100% certain, but there was an accident in north bay this weekend and I believe it was on a yellow trail. I don’t know what happened. Accidents are going to happen on red yellow and green, but I would rather have somewhat of an idea on conditions before I go out for the day.
  7. I was kinda wondering about north Bay Area. Their trails were listed as yellow (limited) all through the melt last week, and then they received more snow. I was kinda wondering why they weren’t being listed green now.
  8. Minimum 20cm or so here in Fergus. Little bit of ice pellets last night, but nothing major. Winter has returned, but for how long?
  9. Oh yeah, now that you mention it, as I was installing my 2up seat about a month ago, I thought to myself I’ll have to remember to shut off the warmers after each ride. We did leave them on overnight, but was told by a couple people that once the sled is off, they will turn off anyways. So I don’t really know if they do still draw power with the sled turned off. Might try it out here at home just so I know forsure. I’ll definitely be buying one of those Noco packs. We had one guy come around a corner sideways on one ski, but we saw it coming and were still far enough away from the corner. Other than that, everyone was riding very respectfully. It was nice to see for a change. I think all the yahoos went north to Sudbury, north bay & mattawa for the weekend. I’ll post some videos of our rides soon.
  10. Wife and I had a great weekend at the Edgewater in Kearney. We were told lots of people cancelled because of the rain, so it was very light traffic all weekend which was nice. Trails were damn near perfect, best riding this season so far. Sorry to brag fellas, but it really was fantastic! Highland rovers & almaguin district did it right for the family day weekend. Not going to lie, there were a few sections (burks falls & Dwight) that could’ve been better, but I think there just wasn’t a lot of snow in those areas, there never really is going through towns. Friday nights ride was a chilly -19 and we only did about 50kms. Sled was completely dead Saturday morning after the cold night, but a guy brought over his jumper and it basically fired right up. Brand new battery in the sled this year too, but we all know the cold kills batteries. That guy saved our weekend, Thankyou if your reading this! Saturday was a 200km day and warmer, and then we just buzzed around close to Kearney on Sunday and did about 85kms. Friday & Saturday we’re pretty good, but Sunday was just mint! I love long rides with the guys, but cruising at 50km on a perfectly groomed trail with the wife, sun shining, temperature hovering around 0….couldn’t ask for a better ride! If anyone is wanting good trails over the next couple weeks, I would highly recommend going to Kearney. Lots of snow and cold in the forecast and they have a wicked base! It will only get better from here.
  11. Night ride tonight in Kearney -19 cant complain at all! 👌🏻
  12. I’m sure some clubs are likely out assessing/grooming as we speak in hopes of opening for the weekend. Hopefully that storm brought some decent snow to the areas that need it. My guess would be that we’ll see some more colour later today or early tomorrow…hopefully 🤞🏼
  13. Weird, the photos aren’t displaying. Sounds like it’s a high labour job. Good she was ok!
  14. $14.5k to repair??? Do you have any photos of the sled? If your not willing to share, that’s perfectly fine too. just seems extremely high.
  15. 2013-14 was an awesome year for sledding. Between my old SRX 700 & enticer 340, I think I put in about 5000kms that season and most of it from home! Loads of snow that season! My boy and I were still sledding March 26th and yes the trails we’re still open here with plenty of snow left after OFSC shuts them down regardless of conditions.
  16. I’m no stranger to long road runs, here in D9 there’s plenty of them haha! I think with the snow moving in tonight and some over the weekend, clubs will reopen for the weekend. Lots of them will be out assessing trails today. Wife and I actually booked the Edgewater in Kearney yesterday for Friday and Saturday night. The Rovers had their trails in really good shape before they shut them down 2 days ago. So hoping they’ll reopen for the weekend. If not, no worries. We’ll just hang out away from home…going to be a nice break from the toddler 🤣
  17. It ain’t over until that skinny lady starts singin!
  18. Lol I wonder how accurate they really were, Very cool!
  19. Exactly! I remember when it was a staked trail back in 2014-2015 when I had my SRX. It was actually kind of nice riding riding through all the little frozen waterways. We went with locals, but haven’t been through there since, and don’t plan on it ever again.
  20. My dad sat on his deck this afternoon and watched tons of sleds cross over to Beausoleil island from penetang harbour today, the tree line is up, but these guys are nuts! the tree line shouldn’t have gone up at all this year imo
  21. I’m going to push for another ride or 2. It may not happen, but if it does, north bay, mattawa or Sudbury will be on my radar. Their long range forecast looks ok…just need to get through another week or so of plus temps which can still change for better or worse. We’ll see what happens. If last weeks ride was my last ride, I’m good with it. Ive never experienced such a horrible winter for sledding…
  22. I see wanapitae just opened up.
