  1. Hi Everyone, It's Official! Welcome to the 2021/22 Winter Season in Sault Ste. Marie. I was north of the city today in the mountains. Riding was good with 10" of snow. Like clockwork, the 3rd week of November is always mountain riding time north of city and is a tradition I enjoy year-after-year. A temporary warm-up is forecasted, however, cooler temperatures to follow. Dan-Senior Sault Ste. Marie
  2. Sault Ste. Marie Blizzard Report For my out-of-town friends, I want to keep you in the loop. We are in the middle of a full 24 hour storm here in Sault Ste. Marie and when all said and done by tonight, there should be at 20cms (8" on the ground). (Photo attached) I'm heading out tomorrow with the sled. It should be a good day of riding the mountains. If all goes well, I'll report positive news back to the group.
  3. Sault Ste. Marie = 1" Searchmont = 4" Goulais River = 0" Thessalon = 0" OgidakiMountain = 5" Kindiogami Road = 0"
  4. Because, I don’t travel far, I don’t often get the opportunity to meet and chat with Ontario-Wide riders such as 02Sled. I enjoyed reading his enthusiastic posts throughout the years and his sharing of stories, knowledge and wisdom. It was a pleasure meeting you virtually Gary. RIP
  5. For those who are visually impaired to the color red.😏
  6. My Cross-Country Snowmobile Report for the Sault Ste. Marie Region - October 2021 - 1st Report of the 2021-22 Season. http://sled-x.ca/news/october-2021-report.html Dan-Senior
  7. It's that time of year for those ready for early-season riding. North of Sault Ste. Marie in the mountains will soon see snow. On average, we start riding on about November 14th. We will see how close that pattern holds for this year. Last year, it was October 25th for the 1st ride. The countdown begins. I will again be running the Cross-Country 440's this year, a legendary tradition that I hold for the past few decades. Wishing everyone a safe 2021-22 season. Keep in touch. Dan-Senior Sault Ste. 8. Iron Bridge Ontario - Updates (Tuesday Jan. 19th) A photo from my camp security camera at Iron Bridge Ontario today (Tuesday). Still pretty bare for snow, maybe a couple of inches on the ground.
  9. Elliot Lake & Area - Lake Updates - January 9th Blue Skies from a few days back allowed for this satellite image from the Elliot Lake area. It provides a visual of what lakes are still not frozen. Even some of the lakes that are showing up as white, are still thin ice.
  10. Greetings from Sault Ste. Marie. A sunny day today. Snow is minimal in the city, however, plenty 1 hour north. I spotted a couple of trucks yesterday with trailers loaded with sleds. Looks like they were going for a ride somewhere north. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
  11. Iron Bridge - Camp Updates - Dec. 24th Looks like a green Christmas at Basswood Lake this year, 1 hour west of Elliot Lake, along the highway 17 corridor. Traditionally, we snowmobile at camp between Christmas and New Years. That's not going to happen this year, unless a couple of big storms pass through.
  12. Sorry to hear Kyle, however, fully understand. I too was spending a fortune in my younger days on new sleds and my bank account was empty. Now I drive $2000 sleds and now my wife's bank account is full. Haha.
  13. Sault Ste Marie - Updates Reasonable snow-depth is starting to take shape north of the City, particularly in higher elevations. Batchawana Mountain is in one of the photos.
  14. Hey Ski, I did bring the SPOT and Chad had his InReach, but we just never fired them up. I'll share the SPOT next time out. Hope all is well. Your Dirt Bike is looking awesome in those photos you shared.
  15. Today's Snowmobile Trip north of Sault Ste. Marie
  16. Snow Depth is good north of Sault Ste. Marie. 35+ cms in the mountains. We are close to 1900' elevation
  17. Heading out for a day ride now. Will be targeting higher elevations north of Sault Ste. Marie as decent snow-depth is currently hard to come by. I may have a few photos by tonight.
  18. Snowmobiling Updates - SSM Snow has been hard to come by in the Sault Ste. Marie region this winter. We had green grass up until 2 days ago. Today was the 1st opportunity to get out riding this month.
  19. Environment Canada has one as well. Canada-Wide, therefore not specific to Ontario. It updates daily in the morning.
  20. Sault Ste. Marie - Updates - December 1st Nothing to report this week, except for green grass. Earth must have tilted.
  21. Sault Ste. Marie Tuesday November 17th Updates
  22. Mine arrived yesterday, Nov. 4th - Sault Ste. Marie. I was outside working on the sled and the mailman stopped and said 'I have some reading material for you'.
  23. I have not received my renewal policy as of yet, however, my crystal ball says the price is going up. I'm with TD.
  24. I love small towns. As a life-long Northerner, I can relate to the boom-bust-boom cycles these communities go through and am glad the hear the area is on the upward momentum again. I did some technology presentations at the Marathon and Manitouwadge high schools years ago and was amazed to see the school parking lots filled with sleds. The students were very polite and respectful, a real joy to see. As for housing, the whole Northern Ontario is on Real Estate fire. 4 years ago, I. Sold a house in Elliot Lake for $100,000, that same house this year would be selling for $175,000. At the time, there were 150 houses on the market, This year, Elliot Lake had on average 25 homes for sale at any given time. More folks are moving up from Southern Ontario. Will they make it as far as Marathon / Manitouwadge? I hope so. Glad to hear Manitouwadge will be connected again.
