  1. It can be really tough for some of these small places in remote locations to make a enough to stay in business.
  2. Could it possibly be related to the liability insurance for the groomers and the land owners?
  3. The contract fulfillment house will still not compare to the resources of the likes of Amazon. How do you know Quebec doesn't have the same blips. I'm sure that out of all the passes they sell there are some hiccups as well. You just don't know about them. My pass order went smoothly as did the delivery just like thousands of others. No system is perfect. As for Amazon. I ordered a BBQ cover. It didn't arrive. I called Amazon, they said that the parcel was signed for at the front door. We had been home all week. Then they put me on hold and came back to say it was delivered to the wrong address. My only solution would be to reorder.
  4. We tend to go to the little place across the road. The last time I was in the hotel I ordered chili. It came luke warm and then found it still had a frozen lump in the middle. One of the people in our party of 6... they forgot to bring his order completely but brought all of our bills a minute or two after serving our food.
  5. Look at what you are using for comparison. The OFSC versus Amazon. A massive multi-billion $ corporation with an enormous IT department with specialists that code sales and fulfillment systems all day every day. Then they have their own massive distribution / fulfillment centres. It's like comparing your neighbourhood variety store to WalMart
  6. Paul... you may not be riding this year... did hell freeze over and nobody told me.
  7. I got mine from Canadian Tire. I don't leave it in when driving in winter. I don't have any locks when on the road. They are for when parked. I will lock the coupler, the ramp and just to be safe a quick pull of the draw bar pin and replace it with the locking one. All the road snirt that gets thrown up below bumper level would kill just about anything.
  8. I like the tube for the padlock. The neoprene mouse pad that I fold over is kept folded with a bit of Velcro at the bottom. I'm with Nunz on the drive with the locks removed. I use just a pin on the coupler for safety until I get to the destination. Once I offload I put the padlock on the ramp and lock the coupler again with Now that I am at my destination I also lock the trailer draw bar into the receiver with this. I started using this after having parked at the Coldwater arena for a day. It's a busy place yet at the end of the day a nearby truck and trailer loaded up. When they went to pull away the bar pulled out of the receiver. Someone had it seems been trying to pull the bar out to disconnect the trailer from the truck. A quick check of mine found my pin was still there but the retaining clip was now missing. Putting the locks on and off only takes a few minutes.
  9. I knew you wouldn't be able to resist the snow and would find somewhere
  10. The key I think is this is him and his wife and he wants to indulge his wife somewhat. The Jolly Roger is not the place to do that. I started a tradition a number of years ago where each year I would take my wife on a sledding weekend to an "upscale" destination. She was most appreciative of being able to get a massage at the end of the day. Happy wife happy life. She was less than impressed with the Jolly Roger when we stayed there. To appease her we went to I believe it was Log Cabin Inn for dinner. That would perhaps be another option as a destination in the Parry Sound area however I don't believe it is trail accessable.
  11. a dusting of snow near Pearson airport this morning.
  12. Nope.... go there often in fact and have sled service with Wild Bill
  13. I use a bunch of locks... make it hard enough for them to look for an easier target On the coupler as well as That covers the coupler. Then the wheel gets one of these - on sale at Princess Auto in the flyer that just arrived, On the ramp door I use a weather resistant padlock when it's parked. I'm sure to remove it when driving or it gets crusted over. When the trailer is parked I have an old neoprene mouse pad that I poked two nail holes into so that I can push the padlock shackle through and it has a tight fit. I wrap it around the lock to protect it from freeze thaw and water seeping inside down the shackle holes. If they still want it then I have insurance.
  14. I can and I'm not a tiny person. I can step between the two sleds. The skis are essentially touching side by side but I just step over the arms and have plenty of room to get to the crank down ski bars. It's easier for me than trying to climb through that hatch door.
  15. I've always wondered why John has put himself out there as the owner. Maybe he has a share in it. Before he passed a couple of years ago our former club president Paul Harriott was the actual owner, the money behind Team Powersports. From what I understand Paul's brother inherited the business. I know John pretty much ran it but Paul was the money. I also understand Chris has left there. He will be missed. He had a way of making customers feel appreciated.
  16. Personally I never use the front hatch and would prefer one without it. I use either the side man door or the ramp.
  17. For a long time I just used the ski clamp down bars that go into the C channel and can be aligned anywhere along that line. Then coming down the 400 in nice weather I hit some black ice. The truck and trailer started snaking and at one point was headed toward a rock face. I thought I was done but the braking system worked. I could feel little pulses on single wheels. Gotta love computer systems. It straightened out. When I checked the sleds the fronts had stayed rock solid. The back ends had swung side to side with the trailer. Now I use ratchet straps on the back. There are tie down rings that use the C channel to secure them to the trailer.
  18. It worked for me yesterday and is working just fine right now. Maybe it's your browser you're using although I'm using Internet Explorer which didn't work last year but seems to this.
  19. For a Polaris dealer I would take a shot at Marsh's Marina in Waubaushene. I haven't had any sled dealings with them but did for a StarCraft boat I bought. I put it in the water and there was a very small amount of water seeping in under one of the floor ribs. Likely from a rivet. I went back and left it with Mike. I came back a week later and he admitted he hadn't had a chance to leak test the boat so he swapped it out for me with a new one.
  20. I didn't have any problems with the permit system.... online and ordered in under two minutes. The toughest part was entering my credit card number. Permit arrived in under a week.
  21. of course they are... it's much too dangerous to drive in a 1/2 in. snow
  22. Can't hurt to hope for the best case scenario. This is way too early though. Forget the frost... way too much water around.
  23. Deerhurst.... my wife likes it there. At the end of the day of sledding treat her to a massage and nice dinner. Not necessarily the hotel for dinner although it's nice but we went to a place "Three Men and a Stove" I believe it was called. Avoid the family day or you will be overwhelmed with kids around. Do mid week if you can. I believe Canuck's wife calls Deerhurst "The Mother Ship"
  24. volume of all the procrastinators that wait until the last minute to go online....then many aren't computer literate and start looking for help for many things others don't have a problem with
