After this winter be a great time to raise price on permit. I notice those new piston bulleys break down fairly often too. Club near me had there's down last week, almost brand new too. Maybe a few years old I believe.
Having done HP regularly since just before your last visit, I can only say that the trail south of the highway towards HP is a great trail (some season logging affects it), and your missing a great ride.
The order of food as i remember it is: 1. Food and rooms in the building now long shutdown; 2. Hot dogs (or sandwiches) on a roller at the Esso station; 3. a 2nd floor of a house for food, across from the Esso station, 4 Cindy's snack bar; 4. Last year the place shutting down; Somewhere in there was the lodge.
I will always try and support the small clubs and towns, if I (we) can.
At one time I got our group of 6 to all identify the HP club for our trail permits, which pushed them over the OFSC 50 minimum to get OFSC funding (or something like that). That year, when we came into the Esso for fuel, the club president was there to meet us and thank us!
We will be in HP for lunch late Feb, and look forward to getting some food somewhere, and appreciate what the club and locals are doing to keep sledders coming through.
I rode to Varney through some of Mount Forest trails and I’d bet it’s a water issue. Still water holes in the bushes here and there was one spot where a creek was over full and water is running over the frozen trail. No first hand knowledge of the B111 section though.
You could always ask on their Facebook page.
