Kearney Ontario Yearly Update on Food and Lodging and etc.

Recommended Posts

Lots of amazing news for Kearney sledders.  I am not going to update days and hours on this post for restaurants as they always change constantly once the trails are officially open.  Best phone ahead or check facebook pages for individual sites to see up to the minute schedules.  First off, the Legion.  Amazing rebuild of their parking lot, probably increased the parking area 4 times what it was before.  Lots of room now for trucks and sled trailers.  Also the Legion has had a major facelift and Donna and her team at DJ's restaurant inside have signed up for their 4th winter.  New at the Legion this year has been breakfast buffets on weekends and often buffets on weekend dinner times.  Free pool, darts etc.  Children are welcome in the main dining room.  Remember please, if you just park and ride and do not purchase food or alcohol, but DO go in and use the bathrooms, throw a few bucks in the tip jar at the counter, those lovely ladies have to clean the bathrooms and stock the paper, soap etc.   At Fork on Main, April and her team are hard at work running what was previously known as Suds on Main.  Same great menu a few years now, liquor licence and often April has live entertainment at no extra charge.  They also have dart nights.   Right next to Fork on Main in the little brown building has a take out coffee shop now with grab and go muffins or fruit and a small veggie selection.  This is run by Doug and he is open 7 days a week.   Pit Stop 518 and Pit Stop cafe are no more.  Unfortunately.  However Pit Stop 518 still has Yurts for overnight rent, complete with woodstove and firewood.    Very nice set up.  Scarlet Point Resort on Main Street has high end townhomes for daily rent, at very reasonable prices.  Lots of parking there and very popular with tourists.   Edgewater is always a highly recommended resort, restaurant is open almost 7 days a week and they have gas.  Fetterleys gas station is still the place in town for gas, quick coffee and Heather has opened up the bays and renovated and turned that area into a hardware store.  Rickwards Canoe Algonquin Store is still going strong.  They also have hot coffee, lots of grocery items as well and Rickwards Polaris Dealership is on the same property.   And now for very exciting news .......  Silversands out past Edgewater is reopened under new management.  Rooms, and restaurant up and running as of this week, lots of parking.  Very reasonable overnight rates and the dining room can seat lots of sledders at once.  They do not have social media pages up and running yet, I wouldnt get my info off of old facebook pages.  If you would like reservations at this time please call 6478600631 and Lazmill will answer any questions you have about the restaurant or rooms.  Had his breakfast this week, very good.  Coffee was excellent.    The LCBO is still closed on Mondays but the variety store in Emsdale has an LCBO outlet, as does Hope's Novar grocery store, which also has gas.  If you are wanting pizza Yettis pizza on 518 in Emsdale is the town go to place for Pizza.    Hope this is helpful for anyone needing a refresher on Kearney or new sledders just thinking of trying out this area.  Stay safe and enjoy our trails!

Any trail updates from this weekend?

Lol

Exactly what I was going to ask.  How much snows on the ground and is it groomed?  Will definitely put the area on my ride list for this winter.  Great post.

We have had soooooo much snow in the past few days and its still snowing hard.  Apparently the groomers are out, the volunteers are doing last minute maintenance and fixes to the trails, it looks fabulous up here.  You will have to just keep checking the online trail maps for that lovely change of colour.  Ride program at the flashing light intersection in town today, expect to see lots of that in the next couple of months.
