stoney
Great report, other than the broken sled. Did I miss what was wrong with overheating sled? We did a week long trip around that area a couple years ago from a single base, it was really good. Here’s a panoramic picture from devils mountain. Lots in the area to explore - but be very careful on the lakes though!
Oggy
Thanks for the report. We are heading to the Abitibi region Friday. We are hoping the weather this week doesn’t hurt things to bad.

New 2022 XCR850 was picked up by T on the way at Black’s Corners & they were so incredible to deal with! We stayed at Complex Dix80. Simple but very clean & accommodating motel. The staff were incredible during booking process & even called to advise us when better rooms became available. They kept behind the building blocked for out two large trucks & trailers until we arrived. But the next/ shared parking lot behind St Hubert’s appears to be a huge staging parking lot. Motel did offer a simple continental brown bag breakfast. Muffins, cookies, fruit, yogurt, granola bars, cheeses, juices, bagels, toast, etc. Trail leaves right from parking lot & you can head in two directions. As stated, there is a St Hubert’s next door & Vieu du Luth, an amazing Greek restaurant in front of the motel, along with many others within walking distance. Ski-Doo dealer across the road, which became important on day two of riding. They also offer fuel, as does a gas station just down the road to the west, if you follow the trail out of the hotel in that direction. Day one of the riding we met our friends on the trails, just on the outskirts of town. While waiting, saw lots of people heading to the mountains & expected very busy trails. Heading to Montanage du Diable. Trails were in fabulous shape & hardly saw any traffic. Devils Mountain is a must see if in the area! They had to have at least six feet of snow at the top. The lodge was open & probably 50-60 sleds at the top. Next stop was Pourvoire Club Fontbrune for a quick rest & peak around for potential future stays. Then a quick ride to Rabaska Lodge for a delicious lunch. Toured for the rest of the day & about 25km from Mont Laurier one of the machines instantly heated to 220 after crossing a road & shut down. Waited for machine to cool but when started would ramp up & shut down. With a couple of auto mechanics with us they figured out the water pump had let go. Thankfully the road we had just crossed had a little store to park at. Fun adventure getting the sled there, but ended the day leaving one with the machine & bringing trailer back to pick him up. Back at the motel chatting with others we found out the Ski-Doo dealer across the road had rentals. First thing the next morning our sad rider went across the street & was able to rent a new 850 Renegade for the day. After getting the rental sorted out, we headed out for day two. After about of four inches of snow over night, the trails were very loose. Went through some major snow squalls & lots of snow dust. Stopped for lunch, fuel & great entertainment at a favourite, Meekos. Had to be over 200 machines in the parking lot. Once we were beyond fu we headed back out. Stopped at Chute du Windigo & glad we did. Such a beautiful spot, but we warned if you climb to the stop & the stairs are nonexistent due to ice, don’t come down on your butt! Lol Dinner was on the trails at Shore Lunch. Cute little spot with good home cooked meals. Trails were pretty beat up by this time & we were all glad to get back to motel at 9:30pm. All in all another incredible Quebec adventure. North of Mont Laurier they still have to have 5-6 feet of snow. Riding trails along the ditches you are higher than the roof of cars driving by. No issues with traffic on the trails & amazing views. Will likely be back before the season ends!! Sorry for the long post! 😁 We did Mont Laurier twice this winter, visited Devil's Mountain, Windigo Chutes, and Meekos Lodge, amazing! Hoping to go back next season to some of the other spots you mentioned. Sounds like you had a great time!

Gadgetman
Since Mont Laurier is only 2.5 hr drive for me, this pretty well confirms a trip either this year or next for sure. Thanks for posting the info.

Crossed a road & went to 150. As soon as he dropped his feet to grab more snow it spiked to 220 & shut down. So much to see in this area. Can’t wait to go back! That sucks - brothers sled snapped the water pump shaft on his 998 20km from our trucks on the last day of our 1600km ride this year.....spiked a lot hotter than 220 too being a 4-stroke! We stayed at Rabaska on our trip in that area - it was a great place for us. Every picture you posted, we also saw on that trip. Not sure why picture is upside down - seems to either be sideways or upside down picture lately!

If possible, can you PM me with some trails that you took\recommend out of Mont Laurier. I'll be day tripping Saturday and Sunday, then drive back to Ottawa. Thank you if you can. If not I'll start searching the names or places. Thanks
