Evil
don't count on it... nobody from North Bay area seems to use this forum... I really don't understand why from North Bay you could do: North Bay -2- Parry Sound 143 miles Parry Sound to Sudbury ? mileage I think around 160 miles Sudbury to New Liskeard 175 miles New Liskeard to North Bay 153 miles
ZR900
My sugeestion would be to drive 3 more hours north and start your trip in Cochrane. Timmins to Chapleau 302 kms Chapleau to Hornpayne 347 kms Hornpayne to Kapuskasing 347 kms Kapuskasing to Timmins 325 kms I been riding this area for the last 3yrs, its probably the best area for snowmobiling. We did this trip last year, was very comfortable riding, trails are wide open and smooth. If your interested, I can give you were I stayed in these area's. sobeit
North Bay to Timmins: approx 360km via hwy. GPS'd mileages, rounded to approximate, taking most direct routes. Note, there is the "new" C trail from Smooth Rock south. Rode this last week, awesome, and it is included in the Kap to Timmins mileage determination. Timmins to Chapleau: 260km Chapleau to Hornepayne: 320km Hornepayne to Kap: 300km Kap to Timmins: 220km
4mysled
depending on the conditions you may want to try 1 of 2 trips. Both are amazing. The rap(ride around algonquin park) tour or the GRT (the gold rush tour).I have done both, the rap tour 2 times. Both are good to leave from North Bay and take 4 days. I have done the RAP tour in 2.5 days but that was hard riding. Take your time as both of these rides are great and have some great scenery. I am not sure of the mileage. 4mysled

PISTON LAKE CRUISER
I've done the top loop trip through Kapuskasing & Hornepayne and it's pretty awesome. The only part I didn't like was the twisty hard work trail from Folyet to Chapleau. Otherwise even a Doo rider will get excited! Stop at the restaurant in Folyet & get your picture taken with the Albino Moose Head. You don't see one of those everyday! I have also been the R.A.P.tour twice. We do it in 3 days so its about 200 miles / day. North Bay to Pembroke (Best Western) then to Dwight (Spring Lake Resort or Dwight Motel. The Boiler Room bar / eatery is a must do) then back to North Bay. You could do a 4th day trip out of North Bay no problem. NOTE: I have found that right close to the City of North Bay often doesn't have alot of snow but that changes for the better when you get out 20-25 miles. Nothing better Than screaming down Trout Lake first thing on the first morning out!!! If you wish to drive north another hour & fifteen you can start out in New Liskeard at the Quality Inn (good food & parking), then to Timmins, then to Hearst, then to Cochrane, then back to New Liskeard. If you like long flat & straight trails, you won't need Viagra!!!! Evil: I'd like more info. on the "new C trail" from Timmins to Smooth Rock. We intend to do that section on Jan. 27th. I really liked the "old C trial". Is the new one much different? Is it still Fast & Flat? Please let me know. Remember - If you're go'in to see a moose, you may as well see a big one!!!!!!!!! Snowberg
If you really want to ride out of NB you might want to try; NB to Mattawa then back on the north trail to Camp Conawango then up and around the North Loop-180 miles Then a little 3 day trip NB to Shinning Tree-230 miles ST to New Liskeard-150 miles NL to North Bay-150 miles You may want to start at the Travel Lodge since there is no access from Lake Nipissing at this point. The trail is closed due to construction. There is a local trail from the Travel lodge parking lot that takes you out to "A" trail where you can head north over Trout Lake which was open and staked last weekend. Make sure you check with the North Bay Club (http://nbsc.ca/) before you go, this thaw has really set things back.

All the trails are smooth and flat. I'd have to look at a map to see the "new" trail, but if it was there last year then we rode it, great as usual. I do believe there are a few more corners than the old, but could be mistaken, still an awesome ride. The only thing is I believe you have to cross the Matagami river (i think that's what it's called). If this isn't ready for crossing will have to head to Cochrane from Timmins then to Kap. Canuck
We launched form North Bay for years (stayed at Clarion or Comfort Inn). One year, we encountered a melt down like we're now having on return portion of trip, and rode through mud/gravel back to trailers. That convinced us to travel 1.5 - 3 more hours north by car, as earlier post suggested. If North Bay is your starting point, then head north to New Liskeard, etc. Then, back on same route. We once made it to Cochrane and back to North Bay, but forget # of days it took. If you can travel further north, Quality Inn in New Liskeard is a great launch point. And the proposed route from Quality Inn is fantastic. One other thing - with 8 sleds, travel to an area that is serviced by many dealers (assuming you ride a variety of sleds). We ran Yamis and SkiDoo's , and starting in New Liskeard and heading north always seemed to put us within 100 km of a dealer.

The "new" portion of C is from Smooth Rock south for a few miles (and it is "new" this year). Fewer corners than the previous "C trail", and one wicked 90 degree corner removed. Good safety initiative by the Smooth Rock club. The C trail now intersects with the A trail at N49 14.621 W81 33.184 just east of Smooth Rock Falls. The Mattagami River is at the west end of Smooth Rock, so going to Kap, you have to cross it.

I'm heading to Timmins Friday and doing this exact ride, assuming all the trails that are temp. closed will be open by then, if not, we'll probably have home base out of Cochrane and ride in a different direction every day! RTX MEIRDA
I just got back from Timmins. Lots of snow! We broke virgin groomed trails for 2 days. The water crossings look terrible. We went in a few directions from Timmins. There is a trail that runs along Hwy 655. If you take the trail that heads east/west off of the C trail, there is a river crossing that does not look passable for quite a while. As long as you caqn avoid the waterways, you should be good to go. It looks really COLD up there this coming weekend!

They may have moved the C trail east to eliminate the river crossing south of the highway. W/ the crossing being @ SRF, the club only has to flood the river crossing in town. I'm hoping they show open by Friday. We'll see! :P Suppose to be real cold this weekend!!!
